I'm wondering about the same thing! On the Cingular website (in the support section on setting up connections with the V3xx) They indicate that if you use the modem on the phone with a MediaNet plan that you will be charged "Bucket" min. for the call. Now if we only knew what "Bucket" min. where.

I have the same problem. I want to use the V3xx as a regular modem without buying a data plan. Cingular says it can't be done, you have to buy a data plan. I called Motorola Tech support and they told me that Cingular forced them to disable that feature.

Just got P2KCommander and XVI32 working so I can mod the phone. Does anyone know what to mod???

Is that on a Cingular v3xx?

yeah.... no firmware mods just seem edits but like make sure ur MPT is up to date that its recognizing the fone as a "v3xx" not the maxx. also use the frivers from the motodev.com site.

if you have a media net unlimited package, all you have to do is use the ccm software from cingy's website. After installing and opening the connection manager software, goto connections>edit connection profiles. Add a custom profile, the apn is wap.cingular, the username is WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM, and the password is CINGULAR1. name it whatever you want. (username and password are case sensetive)

you can do this, but i suspect if you read the fine print you'll find that cingular can terminate if they feel you are not in compliance --i.e much too much data transfer for strictly phone browsing.

i doubt they will plus thats like invasion of privacy but it would be good to lookin on it. But if u use MPT u are actually using the phone's protocols and logging in correctly as if the phonewas logging in by itself.

id have to agree with NXG on this one. Mpt does allow use as modem and i have seen it somewhere else, thougt is was in the user guide but its not i checked. pull it off as long as it works

I've been using my Cingular V3xx with the $19.99 media max 200 add on as a USB modem for about 4 months now with no issues so far using motorola phone tools, I hit 1.2GB the first month and they never canceled it or anything, actualy when I called and signed up for that plan the person on the phone told me that plan did cover teathering even though the fine print in the contract does says no, of course that fine print also says it doesn't cover streaming video even though Cingular offers streaming video thru Cingular Video on that phone.

It's nice and fast too, windows says it connects at 240kbps, actual measured speed is around 760kbps.

I'm a nooB at this... so regardless of what method you use to get this v3xx to work as a modem, you have to have a data plan? Can it work without the Data Plan?

if you are going to do a lot of browsing you need a plan - the $19.99 media max 200 is the cheapest i'm aware of for unlimited browsing.

what about 3g speed? whos getting higher than 100kbs???

and yes i have medianet unlimited and my motorola v3xx which i could use as alternate connection in case my main go out. but cingular and its policy not allowing you to do so. they make you buy data connect plan for 50 and more dollars a month. but hey....you still could hook up your device and use it as modem ;)
