Ringtone size limit

IS there any way to remove the size limit of 300kb on ringtones, I had a Z3, not I got this Z9 and none of my old ringtones work, and its a pain chopping them down and changing bitrates.

Yea, it looks like AT&T did it to a lot of the newer phones....I think my girlfriends SE w580i is the same way..... hope there is a hack for it.... its kinda annoying

Yes the 300k size limit can be removed, I have done it on my Z9 here's the info on it:


SEEM 004E_0001, offsets 920, 921, 922 and 923. Converting the hex value of those four bytes to decimal comes up around 300K. Setting these four offsets to FF FF FF FF will allow one to go thru Media Finder, pick an MP3 and "apply as" a ringtone regardless of size. But I still couldn't use these "big" MP3s as contact ringer IDs.

Then I noticed the next four bytes (offsets 924, 925, 926 and 927) had the same 300K value. Throwing caution to the wind (and after F&B3) I set those bytes to FF FF FF FF. Still wouldn't let me use them as ringer IDs.

So I deleted my MP3s and reloaded them and bingo - I could use even a 8mb + MP3 as a ringer ID.

Yes this is true. I discovered those seem edits. In some cases you need to set offsets 924, 925, 926, and 927 to FF as well. But for the majority of flexes this is not the case.

To mod and edit seems I like to use XVI32. It's in the downloads section. I think it is the easieset hex editor to use. It's an "Oldy" but a Goody.

hi to all i have a new z9 and i can not get the p2k seem editore to work. i whant to remove the 300kb limet on ring tones but i am new to moding. i some one could give me a step by step on how to do this i knoe you have to change numbers top ff but i can not get the semm editor to upload from the phone help

My 920-923 and 924-927 values look a little something like this: "00 00 04 B0" which adds up to 180. Are these the right offsets?

Are 920, 921, 922 etc dex or hex numbers?

I have seen some variation in those values even within the same flex. Regardless of the orignal values anything other than FF is going to place a limitation on your file properties. All offsets are hex, and offsets 920-927 should be set to value FF.

I tried this and still when I open up Motorola phone tools and try to download a ringtone from my files it says mp3 codec may be inappropriate or missing what does that mean? I just discovered it might be a problem with Motorola phone tools because I just went into file transfer and did it that way and was able to do it.

edit: works remove any music over 300k, restart and then readd, restart and everythings great

As long as your talking about ringtones......I have had this phone for 3 days-LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! I have phone tools 5.0 & Codec V2 software. When I had my V3 downloading a ringtone into my phone was a SNAP! I have just spent hours...trying to do a ringtone. Pictures-NO PROBLEM....downlaoding an entire song--piece of cake....why oh why Can I not download a ringtone. I have the songs--all edited--all MP3---ready to go....and everytime it downloads the entire freakin :furious:so0ng into the music player. all I want is the same ringtones I had on my RAZR. Can someone help me out???? thank u so...........much:cheers:

Okay, now I'm just getting frustrated... none of these seem editors seem to be able to even find the seem let alone fix it to allow a file over 300kb. Does anyone have the download for one that actually works?

P2KTools3 works really good(as long as you have added the Z9 profile to it), it is a simple process to do, just take your time and be patient.

Yep... and I finally got it to find the information on the phone, but can't get it to find the 004E seem correctly. There's nothing specific in any of the guides as to what I'm supposed to look for if I need to search manually, and the grids are just way to broad. I'm also trying to figure out how to have animations as a wallpaper if anyone figures that out on this phone.

Yes, which is how I got it to read the seems, but finding the 004E one is a complication, especially considering it only displays a grid.

go into seem edit at the top where it says seem and then rec under it, type 004e into seem, then clickload from phone.

Could you perhaps provide a little more depth. As I said, it provides a large grid when entering in the seem. (Even entering the seem 004E leaves a large grid, which is mostly filled with zeros). Unfortunately, there is no guide stating specifically which one is to be changed, and to what; and as I mentioned, the grid provided when entering 004E is large (Y integers range from 0x000 to 0xF90 and X integers range from x08 to x0E).

you need to save this seem to a folder then open it in XVI32 hex editor, then go to address and click on goto and enter 920 in the box and click ok. the box type cursor should go to address 920(00) change that to FF. do the same for 921,922,923,924,925,926, and 927. once done save this someplace where you can find it, open p2ktools, load from file, choose the one you just modded, load to phone and restart phone. im not responsible for bricks!

Don't know, but when I went back to verify and loaded the seem on my phone, those 8 are set as FF instead of 0 now, so it's set on my phone, just won't take it though. I blame AT&T.

ok try this, take out your tf card, delete everything and reload your mp3s

??? If by TF card you mean transflash, I'm not using one. Just the micro SD 2GB card.

Okay, quick question, all my MP3's (unless I move them to the phone) are on my memory card, so am I just to copy the files from my card and format the card itself? Nevermind... emptied the card, formatted and restarted the phone.... didn't work.

Ramira, I did the format by phone before. I removed the songs I wanted to keep and formatted the card in my phone.

anyone having a problem with a "Messages Full" text when so many ringtones have been added to the phone? i had 40mb of space left and 400mb on my transflash(mSD) but it said i needed to start deleting shit pulled my phone back up in commander deleted 1 ringtone and its gone??? anyone else having similar issues

i had this problem yesterday and today i finally fixed it, thats pretty fast, i ran into a S*** load of problems, but i never even knew this world of ModMyMoto existed so for a super rookie like me this seems like an amazing accomplishment, i'm sure to some this was easy but i feel i learned a lot in this little time... all i can say is THANKS EVERYONE!!! :M3FTW!:
