View Full Version : Is DAP my only option?

I'm assuming there is no seek function in the digital audio player. I found nothing in the manual, so I resorted to random (and nonrandom) button mashing, but I got nowhere. Not a big deal for songs, but when listening to hour-long (and longer) podcasts which sometimes get interrupted somewhere in the middle it's a big deal. The sound player does have a seek function, but it won't play with the phone closed.
Are there any other music players available?

the default sounds player can be good. you can hide it.

It would be fine if I I could play it with the phone closed. What do you mean by "you can hide it"? I can hide what?

You would have to make a seem edit to allow "hide" to be displayed. I just did it yesterday and I'll tell you what, using the default media player is so much better!!! If you make a play list, "shuffle" is available (menu > shuffle > on), and best of all, no load time.
I love the "hide" feature and highly recommend scrapping ALL java based media players found in Moto phones. I can listen to music and use opera mini at the same time and my music pauses on incoming phone calls. Try that with DAP or iTunes.

Is this seem a secret?
[time passes]
Ok it's seem 0032_0001, offset 0x9a. Clear bit 7 to get the hide option in Sound Player.
Off topic, for some reason when I switch out of the firefox window while editing a reply on this board my typing changes to some weird character set which I first thought was Cyrillic. Weird. Maybe it's something to do with one of these Russian made apps running in the background, but it isn't happening anywhere else in Firefox (or in other apps).

Is it possible to get the Sounds player to remember its spot in an MP3 file when you close the phone with it paused? I like listening to lengthy podcast/radio show type things and would love to be able to pause, and then later pick up where I left off.

No seem discovered for that one yet.... BUT you can note the elapsed/remaining time and FF to that point when you are able to reopen the session again which you CAN'T do in DAP.

@V3onDuBz,
Have you tried the sounds player, I have to agree with the other members who feel it is superior to the DAP or iTunes. Waiting for the Java app. to load is a pain and I like being able to play games or surf with Opera while listening to music. IMO the sounds player is the BEST way to go.

I actually thought you were talking about an actual Java app.
That is what I am actually using right now. But I don't want that to be me player. I need a working player that actually works. For some reason the orginal DAP(16) for V3t isn't working.
Can anyone help please!!!!

Why isnt your DAP working? did you delete the J2me Security file? Perphaps if we knew why the DAP was not working we could offer you a work around. From what I hear (never tried it myself) if you install the new (Motorola DAP 5.0.30) with Motomidlets mananger - let it create the JAD file - it will work with the security file removed but it has no back button (it is designed for Motos with the back button built into the phone).. its pretty nice to look at but still a pain to load up. Like I said, I never tried this so I dont know if it really does work.. I have no use for DAP so I doubt I'll ever try it out LOL

sure it is :)
Personally I prefer the sounds PLAYER, it loads much faster than any java app will, doesn't tie up my java system so I can play games or surf with Opera while I listen to music and once you make a playlist (or a few) you can access virtually any sounds file (mid, mp3) in just a few seconds. You have the option to shuffle just like iTunes etc. and with the outside menu access mod you can open the sounds player, choose your playlist of preference and play, fast forward thru a track, advance to the next track, lower the volume level and even exit the player without ever opening your flip.
I have yet to find a java based app that works as well as the onboard sounds player and I love being able to surf with Opera while I am enjoying my favorite tunes. It may not look pretty but it does the job very well. I have much cooler stuff on my phone to show off than a java based sounds player...... I have MF Radio for that! :)

No I didn't delete the J2me Security file. The only I did was deleting the DAP from my Games&Apps list on my phone. I wanted to update it and have Motorola DAP 5.0.30 or something else, but it never got it to work again.
I heard about removing the security file and i'll try it when I have time. But, I don't think that will make a difference, then again I am not a expert.

That is true, but the only thing I hate about it is I can't pause the song I am listening and resume back to it later. IDK i think thats important to have as a feature. Hey at least the sound player is there for me right now....it's better than nothing!
