Is there a way to backup all of the Maxx settings? eg. theme settings, speed dials, phonebook etc etc? Damn that'd be nice with all the flashing I'm doing!

Hmm. Nope, its in the firmware. So if you are flashing a different firmware, then no. I hear ya, though.

Forgive me guys if I'm being a little naive here, but it would seem to me that a solution to this would be creating a monster pack once you're happy with your phone setup. Then you could simply flash it when you screw up.

If this is correct, how do I create a monster pack??

In a/ the WebSession file holds your wap setting (nothing new there) and the UMTS_MMS holds your mms settings. Copy those two file for safe keeping.

Buy Randoms fb3 and make a full backup. Then you have your own MP :)

I've got FB3 but I thought that there still wasn't a way to create an MP 'cause you can't get the header and RAMDLR files. Am I missing something here or is there indeed a way to create a proper MP using FB3? Can I just use the header and RAMDLR files from the original MP that I'm currently using?

Oh, I suppose you could do that. I thought you were saying like when you flashed a new MP or flex to check it out, and then to do something which puts all your menus back, web sessions back, etc, all how you like it. That can be done with a few steps, but nothing simple.

Easiest thing is just to always have a copy of your mma_ucp, websessions, and umts_mms. Thats menus, web, and mms settings, which is the ones I always wind up redoing a ton.

Is there any particular reason why I can never backup CG17 using FB3? It's in the other MP's that I've seen but it never, ever backs up for me....regardless of file format etc.

And how do I backup my CG0, .hmg and RAMDLD files? CG0 isn't listed as a backup item, and the other 2 are an unknown quantity to me.

Hello All
thank you for the wealth of information found of these modding sites such as this one!

In a/ the WebSession file holds your wap setting (nothing new there) and the UMTS_MMS holds your mms settings. Copy those two file for safe keeping.

You can also backup the files:
email.cfg email.def
located in :/a/mobile/email/
these will backup your POP3 connection settings and account info

Also theses:
default-profile.0.profile-bin
default-profile.1.profile-bin
default-profile.profile
loud-ring.0.profile-bin
loud-ring.1.profile-bin
loud-ring.profile
silent.0.profile-bin
silent.1.profile-bin
silent.profile
soft-ring.0.profile-bin
soft-ring.1.profile-bin
soft-ring.profile
etc etc located in :/a/mobile/system/ these will restore your ringstyles presets

And this one should you want to reinstate you word completion list:
iTAP6_User_Dictionary.

I have a question:
I just got a Bluetooth USB key, i can transfer files from the phone without problems, but when I try to upload files TO the phone, I am asked (on the phone's screen) for a PIN of up to 15 digits...
Anybody would have any clue ?

Best Regards
Eric

I got a v6maxx while in Dubai with arabic keypad. Unfortunately
i paid slightly more than in US, oh well! Great phone still!
I am currently in the Philippines with Smart (provider) and the 2100mhz 3g woks very well, when the network isn't overloaded, sometimes a page of 110kbytes loads in 2-4 seconds.

Thanks heaps Eric!! I've now got my entire restore routine down to a fine art and only takes about 20mins. But those extra files that you've suggested will cut it down even further.

Re. the Bluetooth USB key: the PIN is for the USB key and being Bluetooth, it should be in the instructions/manual etc that came with it. Try using 000000 (6 x 0) - it's often a standard Bluetooth PIN code and just because you can enter 15 digits is definitely no guarantee that you need to enter all 15 digits. (My default was 6 x 0)

Or try Googling the manufacturer of the USB key and try to see if there's an online FAQ/manual/Forum etc that may discuss this PIN issue.

Cheers
Gary

EDIT: I don't suppose you know if there's any way at all of backing up the phonebook and/or speed dials?

Hello Maddcow,

The only way I know to backup/restore the phonebook is by using MobilePhoneTools and/or HandsetManager. For the speedials I don't know of any way, I think P2KAdvanceEditor used to be able with older phones, but not the P2K05.

Regards

As for the Bluetooth password, it seems the password is required by the phone not the USB key/software. Thank you though I will research it.

As for the Bluetooth password, it seems the password is required by the phone not the USB key/software. Yeah, I realise that but the phone is wanting the password FOR the USB device.......in essence, you're telling the phone that this device is allowed to connect to it because you know its password. Otherwise, the phone will not allow the stick to connect. It did the same for me when I first connected my Maxx to my USB Bluetooth stick.

Also, I've got Motorola Phone Tools and other contacts backups but I was wondering where the phone keeps the contacts in memory. It's not really an issue to restore the contacts but it'd save time if it was simply a matter of copying a file over when copying all the other backed up files. Isn't the PDS involved with this area somehow??

You can backup your settings by backing up CG2(Flex) but unfortunately, I don't think that includes the phonebook :(
