I located the original cl.gif in a\mobile\system and replaced it with another gif of similiar size, 96 x 80, but the original one is still displayed.

What am I not doing wrong?

^ Make sure the cl.gif which you want to replace the stock one with is a gif format and make sure its named cl Click on the stock cl.gif and upload the new one over it. Press the restart button and then you should have custom cl.gif image

Thx for the suggestion. Didn't work.

Once I deleted the original gif, then restarted the phone, I noticed it was still displayed. I'm guessing there's another copy of it buried somewhere.

did you get it from a\mobile\picture or somewhere else

If you're referring to my replacement gif, it was included with a skin i dl'ed. It was not in the "pictures" directory.

Make sure the new .gif is a true .gif, not a .GIF or something else. Maybe have a look in the media section first and find a .gif which is proven to work, then try it. If it also doesn't work, Hmmmm, well anyway, we will try to help, :)

Thx, will do.

Just flashed a different flex to my phone, and now I'm able to replace the gif.

Don't know why the flex originally on my phone won't allow the cl.gif to be replaced. It also wouldn't allow custom start-up & shutdown animations.

perhaps a branding issue?
I can see AT&T, for instance, making sure you are stuck with their branding by making the Flex unable to replace certain items.

I replaced mine last night with one of the ones form here. I just deleted the stock one, renamed the new one, copied to same spot, hit restart, and it was displayed.
I used M-Explorer with the V3re patch and had no problems.
