I want to back my phone up by creating a custom monsterpack, and have read through the tutorial here (http://www.themotoguide.com/razrbackup.php).

Everything seems clear except for one thing - the second part of step 8 says, "Locate your original MonsterPack .shx file (the one currently installed on your phone) and place it in that folder also".

I can't figure out where the heck the monsterpack that is "currently installed on my phone" is supposed to be or how to make it -- by this point in the tutorial you've only made a 14.6 MB file called "My Backup", and there's no mention of having perfomed some other operation to make a monster pack. In fact, until I read this closely I thought this 14.6 MB file WAS the monster pack.

Could anyone clear this up for me? TIA!

Actually, heres something easier.

Download Flash&Backup3 (you must find the crack yourself)

And make a full backup of the phone in SHX format.

As for your question, i'm guessing you havent MP'ed your phone before. You must have the original MP that you have in your phone.

I think a much better comment there is: "Its $9.95 to register it."

What if you want to take all your phone mods and place them on another phone when it gets replaced? I thought you could find the PDS file (I don't know how to do this) and pull it from a custom MP and replace it with the PDS from the new phone (This iether) and using SXHcodec mash them together and flash that to the new phone. Am I way Off?

Or a full backup...

just make a FLEX backup and insert in into an exsisting MP such as my got noob one, and you will have the latest firmware, etc. but with your personal mods, contacts, etc.

.
.
there is a guide too... in the guides section believe it or not!

Many thanks to Archer and Apristel. Did a couple FlashBackups (with 2.62 and 3.0, just to be sure) and all is well. Am I correct in assuming that I can just use FB to restore those backups?

You can use FB3 to restore the FB3 backups. However your backup made with FB2.62 should be made into a custom monster pask and flashed with RSD Lite. The restore function in FB 2.62 can end up bricking your phone. (when it works it's great, but when it doesn't it's bad) I would reccommend that you make a PDS backup with FB 2.62 as well and keep it safe.
