V3 Driver / Connection Issues? Try This.

Ok, there are numerous tutorials on the internet telling you how to get your computer to recognize your V3. Well, here's another one. This one is short and sweet, but very effective. Just to be sure, I just tried it on a fresh PC & one that had driver issues.

Let's Begin....

First off, lets round up a few key things. Download this package.

Driver Tool
P2K Bezol aka P2KTools
Device Manager Show All (http://www.modmymoto.com/guides/files/Apristel_s_Driver_Tutorial_Files.rar)

Unpack the download, you'll need winrar or similar. Once you have that unpackaged, we can move on.

Sidenote:
This download of P2K Bezol has 2.9 P2K drivers included. This IS different from the other downloads available on the interent, uneless someone did the samething.

** If you have NEVER plugged your phone into the computer, please SKIP step 1. **

** If you HAVE plugged in your phone and tried installing drivers, but something went wrong.. follow EVERY step.**

UNPLUG YOUR PHONE FROM THE COMPUTER!!

1. SKIP IF YOU HAVE NEVER PLUGGED YOUR PHONE INTO THE COMPUTER
Run the Device Manager batch app that you downloaded above (devmgr.bat that was in the devshowall.zip). Windows Device Manager will pop up. Click the view menu, and select "Show Hidden Devices". Now navigate to the Modems catagory, click the + next to it. It will expand. Remove all traces of Motorola USB Modem. Do this by right clicking over the item and selecting "Uninstall" Next, navigate to the Motorola USB Device Catagory (if its there), click the +, and uninstall everyone of the items in there. Finally, navigate to the Universal Serial Bus controllers catagory, click the +, and uninstall all "Unknown devices".

2. Plug your phone into the computer.

Windows will detect your phone.
3. XP will detect the phone, and prompt for drivers, direct it to wherever you have them saved... (Check "Install from list or specific location")

Check the Install from List or Specific Location box, and click next.

Click Include This Location In The Search, and Click Browse.

Now locate your bezol folder that you downloaded, you must have unpackaged it. I unpackaged mine to the desktop.

4. Find the DRV folder within the newp2k folder, Click ok, and then finish out the installation.

Click Finish

5. Once the drivers are installed, unplug the phone, wait a few seconds, and then plug it back in.

6. Run the Bezol P2K (p2ktools.exe) app on the PC

7. Your phone will now switch modes ..might take a few seconds..(you'll hear Windows sounds) and then it will prompt for more drivers. If it doesn't switch modes, try leaving your phone plugged ina dn turning it off and then on (If it still didn'detect see the *** at the very bottom of this guide) Once again direct it to where you have them saved. (This is the SAME place as before) After it finds numerous devices, you're all set...almost.. Like I said it will find a few different things, but the drivers are all in that "drv" folder that was in the Bezol download.

If it doesn't switch modes and prompt for more drivers see the *** below (very bottom of this post)

**You might get a message pop up saying the target file exists (p2k.sys) and is a diff language than the source, ignore that error, and click ok.. Who knows why the drivers language matters? not me. [Smile] **

Here is only ONE of the things it will find, there will be a few (MCU Logging, Test Command Interface, Accessories Interface) but they all use the same drivers.

8. Once its done installing all those devices, unplug the Phone from PC.

9. CLOSE P2K Bezol and RESTART the Bezol application. <--very important!!

10. Plug phone in and enjoy. You'll see in the bottom left corner, it shows disconnected (RED DOT) Once you plug your phone back in, it will be Connected and show the GREEN DOT!

I also ran into issues where the cable was the culprit!! Just yesterday I spenta good portion of my day helping user ANH - which found it was his cable causing the problems. The weirdest part was, you could fully flash using RSD with his bad cable, just the p2k apps wouldn't work. Cables are cheap. Headaches suck.

*** If you cannot get p2k to get make windows prompt for the additional drivers, close p2ktools and run rsd lite 2.5.. if you don't have RSD lite 2.5... Google is your best friend right about now. Upon installing RSD Lite, Windows may ask you to install "hotfixes".. do so. I HIGHLY suggest making sure you have SP2 (Service Pack 2 for XP). I'm not saying that this will solve your problem, but its always a good idea to have the most recent hotfixes and serivce packs. Please Register and Post Your Results After Using This Guide.

I know i'm late guys but i'm having a little problem. Camtasia doesn't record the small bubbles that pop up on the bottom left corner. I've recorded six times with diffrent settings but it's not showing up. Does anyone know a free tool that can record desktop video and turn it into a flash file?

Hi-
I have a new Motorola V3m (US Cellular), and I've tried installing all five drivers and can only get through the first install (Motorola USB Modem). When I try to run Bezol P2K, I get an "encountered a problem" message from Microsoft and I'm shut out of the program. I still get prompted to install the other drivers, but when I attempt to install, it doesn't work (I get the message, through the wizard, that "hardware not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software.")
Not sure where to go from here. I've also tried "themotoguide.com"'s download's and get the same message from the hardware wizard.

I've been lurking for a few weeks. My ? is that I can connect my phone for MPT and RSD lite. However, I can't get P2ktools to connect properly. I thought I went through the driver installations, do I have to do this again for P2k? I need to fix a ringtone proplem and wanted to get P2k anyways. Nice tutorial. I was able to connect with only XP SP1. Instead of exiting the p2k to install subsequent drivers, I just right clicked and scanned for hardware changes which prompted windows installer to reinitialize.

Hello, All. Followed the instructions to the T (nice and easy to follow, thanks!) but the Plug and Play monster keeps jumping ahead of me. As soon as I plug in my V3i, it finds the drivers, with no prompts for me to point to P2K. Thanks for your help.

I then followed the directions on the first page of this thread, and aside from getting "Motorola L7c K1m V3m" as the device windows found (instead of "Motorola USB Modem"), everything went according to the tutorial until step 4. Step 4 was interrupted by a dialog that said "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary hardware."

I have been doing my homework on this and cannot find a solution. Seeing as I have followed the instructions to the letter (thanks a lot for putting those together, guys!), I think it might be the cable I am using. I'm using a cable that came with a digital camera I bought in 2003 or 2004, and it may have been damaged between then and now (or may simply be unable to do what I'm asking of it). At any rate, if you all feel there's a software issue like me needing a more current set of drivers (I just got the phone today), then please let me know - otherwise, I'll get a new cable tomorrow.

It will not do this if you properly remove all the items I listed in the device manager. Make sure you are using the dvshowall ( Device Manager Show All ) thing that is included in the downloads on the guide. Then goto the view menu and show the hidden devices.. Once you remove all those, xp won't know what it is until you give it the drivers... also... try a different usb port on the computer.

I don't know why the guide won't work for you, I guess since your not confident in your cable, neither am I. Once you get the new cable, if it doesn't work, we'll troubleshoot it.

Isn't sprint CDMA software? I would suggest using nevarDeath's get connected guide for CDMA. Click HERE (http://www.modmymoto.com/guides/cdma/getconnected.php) for that.

"The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software."

I got the same service pack errors from nevarDeath's guide, but since the program starts I assume that part works correctly.

Guys, what can I do? I've tried all the combonations of usb ports and new/old cables as I can, to no avail :(

edit: I'm going to head to the v3c/v3m forums to see if they can help. I would still appreciate your input, though :)

Drivertools is ran to uninstall all traces of the Motorola drivers and usb device. It's so you can start fresh.

@izitnick: When I get home from work tonight, I'll help you. I'm sure we can get it worked out. It's 12.30 pm here. I get off at 4.30 and home by 6.00. I'll talk to you then.

I think I found the problem. I switched usb connection to data/fax, connected it and went to p2ktools. Now it asked for drivers 4 times, I installed em and it shows connected now.

Update: another few hours of looking around different sites for solutions, and nothing yet. This is getting really frustrating. I can't see any reason why this should be so difficult! I'm running XP Pro, and have Service Pack 2 installed (which some CDMA guides said was important). I don't know what to do!

ok i bought a memory card, and i got the adapter, can someone igve me a follow up on how to transfer music to my memoery card

ok so i got my memory card, and i opened up the f drive, and it has my mobile, my music, and something else, but i transfered music on my computer to my memory card to the folder thta has my music, now the pics on my memory shows up not in a folder but judst in the f drive, anyways when i try to play my music is says player error, music not avaible, is there a certain file exstion the music has to be, becuase all it shows it one music file, adn that doest play, also whne i transfered it over a message on my comp says invavlid to rename file, so i clikc rename is says valid.

I can get to where it prompts for the location of the trivers, then it stops and says device unplugged. I have tried 3 times, and get the same thing thing (I have gone into the device manager and removed the entries after each try) I am running vista. Do you think that is the reason? What should I try?

I can't get any of these solutions to work so I just bought a new cable off of Ebay. Hopefully this will take care of the problem.

I think I have SA Syndrome.

One thing I noticed during the entire "try" at this was... when I had given up (numerous times) and the phone was disconnected from the cable, two separate times I heard the USB noise - sounded like a connection/disconnection.

The cable was plugged into my tower but not to the phone.

Newbie to the site so if I break the etiquette – sorry in advance.

I purchased a Toshiba Notebook and a Razr v3 two weeks ago so I could get weather briefings at my departure point. No land line or hot spots are available at this small airport. I don’t need this service often enough to justify the expense of XM WX or other such services.

OK here’s the problem. After following your instructions for drivers etc. my Razr does recognize my software and gives a message on the screen that says “Dialing DTC” (DTC is the weather service I want to access). However immediately after displaying this the connection is cancelled and I get this message on my notebook software “call disconnected (no answere by remote).

I have been trying to make this connection for a week now and your post has gotten me this far. Any suggestions on how to keep the connection going after the Razr recognizes my notebook? Thanks.

Started over again, got all the drivers etc. Same results??

I have un-installed and re-installed the drivers so many times I can do it without following the guide. I’m sure the drivers are doing their job but I see from some other posts that a Cingular phone will end the call as soon as it detects the tones produced by a traditional ISP modem normally accessed on a conventional phone line.

If I purchase a pre-paid T-Mobil sim card will I be able to use it in the Razr I bought from Cingular and then switch back and forth?

I followed the steps in the tutorial up to the part where you install the p2k drivers. it worked fine the first time until I unplugged the phone and waited a couple seconds. When I plugged it back in it gave me this error: "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem click this message."

Also, I would like to note that the device was recognized as a "Motorola V3r" and not just a "V3"? I tried following the steps from the top, but it gives me the same error msg every time I connect the phone to the USB cable. :(

OK...I'm another newbie. First I have MPT and have been successful in connecting to my phone Razr V3 via cable and bluetooth. All I want to do is install an app from getjar.com. Somewhere on one of these forums there were instructions using bluetooth, clicking and dragging the .jar file into the OBEX push something, which I did but got an error. We even tried installing from the actual wap site and got an error in the installation. Any advice (short of quitting)??

It's best to use your USB cable when accessing your phone w/ a PC.

where do apps go on my phone? and should i now flash it? as i said before, i'm really only interested (at least for now) on getting this program loaded and running - do you trust the getjar.com folks? is the software ok?

I followed the guide several times (both the old and new guide), but my phone is only been able to be seen by my pc when it is in the * # ON mode. (developer mode it is called i think). but when i connect it when the phone is running in normal mode, i can hear the connect sound from windows, but immediatly the disconnect sounds and don't get any message of some sort. it even doesn't see my phone as a usb-modem. It's a second hand v3 with the 07.E0 bootloader and has a software version of R347_G_05.40.79R What can i do to get my phone recognised so that i can flash it with a new flash-pack (mayby a monster pack) and when i get it to work, can anyone suggest a monster pack that i can use for my completely unlocked phone (unbranded, NO CINGULAR)

MY phone still will not switch to p2k mode. I need help!!! In step 5, when I plug the phone back in the little bubble thing says that the drivers weren't installed correctly. Can I use the motorola official drivers that I downloaded from driverguide or do they have to be the ones that you provided on the .rar file?

2 days Ive been trying to get this to work. Im getting angry.

Followed your guide completely, several times. Phone installs fine, then I run p2ktools and when it tries to reinstall the other drivers it has a problem and says cannot start this device. I have a brand new V3t with motorola usb cable.

Also, everytime I close P2KTools, I gen an error from it.

Posting my issues with this write up. I have a thread in V3T that no one has replied to. I have downloaded the USB drivers from Motodev and the file is corrupted everytime.

Yeah I was. Files were corrupted. Doesnt matter as I kicked my computer and broke my hard drive. Ill be using a borrowed laptop which p2ktools is already working on until I get a new drive.

They know a lot more about the v3c then folks here at the GSM part. V3c or v3m doesn't matter at all, they are both CDMA and don't follow GSM guides. Please follow the link I provided above, :thumbsup:

I have just joined and followed the guide and was able to install the driver to laptop. Now p2ktools connects but it indicates that their is 0 free space and Files: 0 and show nothing in the screen. Is their something wrong ?

I have tried your procedure and it looks like it is created for phones that can boot normally. My device will not boot past the Hello Moto screen. The driver I need is the S Flash Neptune driver. I have tried downloading all the driver paks from this site and none will connect my computer to my Razr. Can anyone help me get a hold of this driver, or an alternative way to connect the phone to the computer. I need to reload the software so the phone will actually function. Thanks

First off i want to thank apristel for his downloads and such, but i still have a problem with my new Rizr v3. I followed all instructions and everything was going fine until step 7. When i plugged the phone back in, no new hardware popped up. I looked at the device manager, and a new "USB composite device" was found, but it was read as working properly. (Idk if that is revelent of not) I know that the problem is not the USB cord, because when i plug in the phone it begins to charge and says "USB communication" on the phone screen.

When I run Bezol app, the status stays disconnected and the computer never reads the phone. I bought Mobile Phone Tools, and have heard on other websites to update the USB with a driver in the MPT program files. when i try to update my USB driver with it, the comp acts as if the driver isint there, even though it is. I cannot use Bezol or MPT, and do not know what else to do!! Can anybody please help me or explain why i can still not access my phone?????

You have to uninstall all unknown USB devices and modems before reinstalling the drivers. Otherwise the fault stays and the new set is not loaded correctly on top of the old driver set.

ya i have the v3
and i uninstalled all the unknown drivers as well as moto modem, but when i plug in my phone, it shows the icon in the taskbar, but the bubble doesnt pop up and neither does the new found hardware box

i would assume i shouldn't matter. in fact, i would guess that the driver should handle either phone. then again i know nothing about Z3. i've never had a problem with p2k tools 3 seeing my phone. but occasionally with other programs, you may need to run either rsd lite or flash&backup in the background. this will force your phone into p2k mode and make it visible to p2k programs.

have you tried the original get connected guide (http://www.themotoguide.com/getconnected.php) in the motoguide? it's written by poetic_folly so it's a good read. :thumbsup: you might want to uninstall your drivers and start fresh using that guide. also, like i said if you use that guide and all seems to install properly, get a copy of rsd lite or flash&backup and run it in the background.

When I click on the p2ktools.exe file to start the program the p2k window opens up. Then immediately a window comes up asking to send an error report. The TASK MANAGER says the PROGRAM IS NOT RESPONDING. I have down loaded the program several times and have the same problem. Is there something else I need to do?

I am not sure if your phone is a p2k05 phone, lol. But i am sure you will find a lot more help in the V9 section. But in principle the get connected should be the same for all motos. Go to Motodev.com, register, download the right version of drivers for your PC, Vista or XP, 32 or 64 bits, and then you should be good to go.

If you installed Bitpim, then you mean that you have a CDMA phone? If so, have a look in the CDMA section and the CDMA guides, here at the GSM section we won't be much help. Most likely even harm your phone with good advice for GSM but bad outcome if the phone is CDMA. Many bricks created that way before here.

I can get p2ktool to show that I am connected by the green light but it wont allow me to see anything in my phone . Ive never used this program before and my be doing something wrong any help would be nice

My apologies for using your post to ask this question but I don't know what to do......

I went and used the `master clear' in the settings on my v3 and now my screen is blank and only the full battery bar and the network signal is showing at the top......on top of that 2 make matters worse the charger port is not charging.....

Yes, its a CDMA phone, have a look in the CDMA section. Its not compatible with GSM p2k technology.
