I have installed all the p2k drivers (i'm not sure if I installed them wrong, I dowloaded motorola drivers installer from the moto website) I plugged in my phone and all the drivers were found and said was installed correctly (when p2k commander was run it installed some more drivers).
I have been trying to connect with p2kCommander 3.3.5 and 3.3.0 but both are unable to detect my phone. I launched my phone into bootloader and it seems to be able to read it but when p2kcommander is run it reads my phone and reports 0 files in directory and p2kcommander crashes.
The newer versions of p2kcommander sometimes read my files but eventualy crashes.
The latest version of bitpim will not read my phone while turned on or in bootloader mode.
I don't know what I have done wrong, maybe it has something to do with the driver installation. Can I clean them out and maybe follow a proper tutorial?
EDIT:------------------------------------------
Alright, p2kcommander now reads my phone and files while running MSU in the background. But p2kcommander seems to be very unstable, I tried to install the XPBlue skin using skin4moto and it crashes when I hit install. I am also using a Telus phone FYI. So thanks if you shed any light on why p2kCommander is crashing
Thanks for the help!

in order for any p2k software to work with your phone you need MSU or PST running in the background. And yes, P2K Commander is an unstable program because it wasn't designed for CDMA phones. I use P2K 3.3.0, and it's stable enough to work with my phone, and I recently updated to 4.9.8 and it works (very stable) without anything running in the background.

Hmm, well i'm not sure what's going on then.
Yes 4.9.8 detects my phone without anything running in the background and i'm actualy able to delete files now. But it doesn't matter what version, my p2kCommander will crash when I hit install in skinner4moto when it launches. Any ideas?

just install the skin manually.
*just make sure the skin is designed for the krzr k1m.

Yeah they are compatible, could I ask you for a tutorial on installing them manually?
Thanks

p2k does crash when hitting the install button.
Oddly enough, however, if you look in your skin's directory you will see a p2kc file (with the star icon) called "install_yourskin'sname". If you double click on that the skin installs.

have you tried the guide here: http://www.modmymoto.com/guides/cdma/skinning.php
And Manually: Just create a new folder in a/mobile/skins
and name it EXACTLY the name of the skin (just copy the sleek in the .ski sleek.ski)
Then copy the .ski and all the .dat file to that folder.

Well, now my p2kCommander is being very unresponsive. The only thing it is able to do now (for some reason) is delete files. If I try to create a folder or add a file it either crashes or lists a command error in the bottom left. Any ideas why this is happening?
I also tried another k1m and it is doing exactly what mine is doing.

Unfortunately, as graphcsguru mentioned, p2k commander is inherently unstable on cdma phones. The only version I have had much luck with is 3.2.6. (Everyone seems to have their favorite) For transferring files I use Bitpim with my k1m as it is stable and works consistently. You don't need any other program running in the background.
To install skins, double clicking the "install_filename" works for most people as long as Update is running in the background. I also use skiman (skins manager) to upload skins. Like commander, skiman is made for GSM phones but it never crashes. Although all of the options aren’t available and I have to manually put the wallpaper in motorola/phone/shared with MPT, skiman takes care of the rest. I have found it fast and reliable if I’m simply making changes to a skin or testing things out and am not uploading a wallpaper
Good Luck

Bitpim isn't able to detect my phone, it's a telus k1m and I don't see it available in the phone selection list, so maybe that's why?

i have bitpim 0.9.13 and the phone set as a V3cm, and it works fine.

I have telus too.
Have you installed the Motorola phone tools CD that came with your phone? If so when you plug your phone into your computer it should show up as a Modem - Motorla USB modem - in device manager.
Don't have any other program running when you run bitpim. Bitpim doesn’t work with the p2k drivers. It works like MPT, with the phone as a modem.
If bitpim tells you it can’t find your phone and asks you if you want to run settings, say yes. Click “browse” beside Com Port and you should see “Motorola USB Modem” listed under available ports. Click it, click Ok and be sure you’ve clicked “filesystem” in the left hand window. Then click the plus sign next to the folder in the center window. That should show you your file structure.

I have Moto phone tools installed, and everything like that, but when I try to get Bitpim to detect my phone it says it cant. I go to settings, but for some reason my port is unavailable. Help me please!
