RIZR Z8 and Z10, Designed for Multimedia (I.E Movie)
ROKR Z6, Designed for Music (like the entire ROKR series)
RIZR Z3 and Z9, I'd say are for more general use

It's Motorola's way of branding their phones. Most of the time they focus on the MotoRokr which is their music phone. Like Avatar said.
Except, the Z10 is not a RIZR. Confusing.

thats wierd, because the Z8 and Z10 look identical, aside from the upgraded internal systems.

It's Motorola confusing non-strategy for naming their mobiles, which they're trying to consolidate if I remember what mentions I've seen about that in the Z8 review.
Basically from what I've seen (and not any other person's article) it used to be MotoRAZR, MotoRIZR, etc. ie distinguishing the phone by the form-factor. Then they added the ROKR line, to distinguish the music-oriented phones. Nowadays I think they're dropping the whole thing and calling them Moto + U9/Z8/whatever. The Z, U or V is the form-factor indicator (Z= slider U = pebble V = flip). But they kept the ROKR label anyway? Weird lol.

ROKR is all music related phones (Takes precident over all other nomenclature)
RIZR is slide form factor (pronouce riser)
Razr is thin flip form factor (pronounce razr)
Then of course patrixl is right about how the new generation of moto phones will be named.
