RIZR Z8 advice

hey to all expert!!!
as a big moto fan i already have slvr L7, and it is rocking for me, any way i found this super cool phone "Z8" i really liked it and really considering to get, but i need to know few things first, how is the phone key response is it fast, dont get me wrong i like my moto but the slvr key response is dead, i hope it is faster with the Z8, and a flashing issue can F&B be used since it is very usefull to back your current f/W first before flashing new one, i read a lot of reviews i dont think it needs much of flashing but who knows? one more thing since it is symbian can we find cool software like the S60, "Nokia"

well the keypad is horrible at typing txt messages and other stuffs.....the L7 keypad is much better

F&B doesn't work with Z8 ... no backup is possible yet .... also no modding available yet...

about software Z8 have again a big problem (lack of the touch screen feature), is the first symbian uiq phone that doesn't have the touch screen function, for this reason a lot of available application will not work....

the display is awesome also the speed is very good at least you don't have a lot of program running in background

Thanx a lot! I read about this issue in a lot of reviews the software issue and difficulties facing this phone because the lack of a touchscreen, but there is something else i am confused about nokia say for example N73 has no touch screen but there is a lot of cool apps that work on it, can those apps work on this phone, and how about multifunctioning in this phone can i for example transfer files with blue tooth and do anything else at the same time, wat i ment by the key response is if i press the call button for example the firmware response immediatly and display the recent dialed calls menue, as the slow key response is a major problem in all moto phones that i incountered! thanx:thumbsup:

nokia N73 use different symbian ... only SE and Motorola use symbian uiq....

so N73 applications will not work on Z8....anyway this is brand new phone so i m sure will be a lot of good applications for this phone...

the programers just need a simple bin file with the soft key codes and will be able to create both applications (for touchscreen and non-touchscreen) ....

i haved problem with the firmware at first but then i use the latest motorola update for z8 and now using Ferrari MP and i don't have any problem...

Yes, you can use other features of the phone while you are receiving or sending a bluetooth file. Just simply press the "home" icon and then you're back at your main menu and able to do whatever you please. You can listen to music while using the camera, browsing the web, text messaging, etc. You can even watch videos while navigating through the menus, you'll just hear the audio from the videos though. About running applications while on the phone, you're able to do that as well. Just once again, hit the "home" icon. I would recommend this phone if you can update it without a problem and if you can flash it with the most stable firmware.

like ATLSNiP3R sayd u can do everything you want while sending files ....

u can run programs in background but if you are runing to much program will slow down the phone:)

well i suggest to buy the Z10 instead Z8 is a little cheaper but it's have a lot of improvment like a 3.2Mpx camera with autofocus, the keypad is much better...

Yeah, but the Z8 looks much, much better. Thanks for the link! But which is the latest firmware? Also, how do you close programs? I know how to pull up the applications list (look at all the apps open), but how do I close them?

not possible my friend.....at least this it's what i think i didn't find any solutions yet...

the only way is to restart the phone ... this is another "bug" for Z8:(

they are looking almost same ... agree that Z8 looks better with that green margins:)

@ATLSNiP3R my suggestion is to flash Ferrari MP (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102771) .... i don't have no problem till now... works like a charm

thanx for the follow up, the thing is i still didnt buy the phone yet so i want to know some key features before buying it, thank u to all!! BTW Z10 is just as good as Z8 but with better battary life and better Camera and some small imporvement it looks rocking as well!!:thumbsup:

z10 is the first symbian uiq3.2 in the world....

motorola is taking serious with this phone...but it lack the touchscreen feature....very important thing for symbian uiq's phones....

if motorola used touchscreen this phones will be able to use any uiq application available till now...

I really want my Z8 to work the way it should, meaning..no freezing, no multi-colored screens, no problems! I love this phone, the way it slides up, the way it plays music, everything. But if I have to return it or sell it, I'm getting the V9 (RAZR 2) or the Samsung U600 Soul.

well coming from the v3xx, i can say the navigating is slightly slower, but there are some cool features to offset.

there is no personalize or skins. its themes and profiles that control the look. but you can configure the profiles to default to any combo of theme/wallpaper which is cool.

options (left soft key) is locked and has some redundant features.

the directional pad [up/down/left/right] cant be assigned from HOME KEYS anymore. they left DOWN as address book though which is cool. you can change the right soft key to anything.

You can manipulate the main menu to however many icons you want but cant order it to your liking, some icons have default locations and messaging is in the middle.

one cool thing is: lets say your navigating in the menu's and for whatever reason, you hit END or get a CALL or something else happens, when you go back into the menu, it remembers where you were and displays the most recent page viewed.

Now now let's not spread misinformation. You can use Swiss Manager (no need for the pro version) to end programs. I personally like the keypad, and found normal v3x keypad hard to use after using Z8 for a while. Newest firmware is the Ferrari one, though there's an unbranded version on the net on some italian forum (which seems to be censored from here)

Most 3rd-party themes that I tried are crap, as they don't display well in the sun or because of weird color contrast. Most 3rd-party apps I found useless anyway, but I use it mostly as a phone lol. I can't afford massive data usage or plans, so that rules out most apps anyway haha.
