I am using S4M and I have some questions...do you guys normally make your own gifs, use the stock "moto" gifs provided in S4M as templates, change/modify the "moto" gifs provided in S4M, or use some other method?
Also, y'all got a suggestion (freeware/shareware) for photo/art editing. I am finding MSPaint and Irfanview a little lacking. :pissed:
I just so happen to have a file of Blank Gifs for you to use... these are for the V3.
Get it HERE (http://rapidshare.com/files/2568827/gif.rar)
You can also edit the existing GIF files of the skin loaded in S4M
GIMP is a freeware graphics editing program of which you can find HERE (ftp://ftp.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v2.2/) it is a FTP link...

There is Gimp it is simlar to photoshop. and it is free. Search for it on google. As for as makeing skins. You what to try and find one the has simlar colors to the one you are creating. Make sure the owner of that skin doesn't have a no edit or remake on it. Then open the skin up and start editing the pic to your liking. If you post the skin it is customary to mention the the oringal base. ex.( the base of this skin was fldodger Alba skin). Any other question just ask.

Ok, I've done as you suggest but I cannot edit the existing L7 gifs. No matter what pattern or color I try to use (on the left soft key, for instance), I keep getting either white or the moto blue. Is it (they) "protected" in some way?
Thanks jack for the v3 files, I need the L7 ones though.
By the way, I thought I would get cute and make my own down arrow...just pink and red!!!!
AAAAAaaaaaarrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

well if you are using photoshop (and i think GIMP too, since it's so similar), you need to change the image 'mode' to something other than 'Index', because that does something funky with the colors and i don't know why

If it's set to index mode, it limits the colors in the image to the ones already in it. For example:
I have 2x2 image A with the following layout:
#FFFFFF|#000000
#AAAAAA|#999999
If I want to change the top-left box (#FFFFFF)
to #CCCCCC, it will go to #AAAAAA, the closest color to #CCCCCC that is already in the image.

I was explaining why your colors are messed up when editing in index mode. In index mode, no matter what colors you try to use, it will always change to the closest color that is already in the image you are editing. You cannot add any new colors.

GIF images contain only a few colours. These set of colors are called a palette.
When you try to put it a new colour, it will take the colour closest to your chosen colour in the palette.
For eg, if I have a black and white GIF, then the palette has only 2 colours: Black and white. If I try to colour this image with RED, then it will become black.
To solve this problem you can:
1. Save this image as a BMP, Close this file and open again and start editing.
2. Change the colours to 256 colours (or more)., this menu option is provided in most image editing programs.
3. Add a new Raster Layer, most image editing programs automatically increase the no of colours with this operation.

Also, if you're using photoshop, you can just go to image>mode>RGB.

Same for GIMP.
