Just bought a L71 have problems please help

The Slvr L71 is from China altho the keys are in US and Chinese, so its OK to use (bought from eBay).

Anyways, I have it hooked up on Tmobile and I did the settings configurator (using a regular L7 settings) to set up my MMS and Webbrowser.

However, I have these problems:
1. Phone says "Cingular" at the top
2. I can't send text messages- it says unable to send, even though I can recieve them with no problem
3. Where do I insert animations? When people send me texts I get them with animations, but if I try to send a text and choose insert, animations is not an option. That doesnt make sense since I can get the animations, which means the animations are stored somewhere on the phone
4. Even tho I set up the web browser settings from the Tmobile settings configuator, when I choose browser, it says "connectioin unsucessful, try again" every time no matter where I am.
5. I tried to set up my email with the email client but says my settings needs to be configured

So basically, can't send any SMS/MMS/EMS messages, can't load the browser, can't get my email.

I dunno, maybe a need a MP? Flex? S/W update?

Well its been a while and no one responded. I searched around and i *think* i can fix most of those problems by doing a monster flash. Not sure how to do it or what tools to use, but the instructions provided by this site seem very detailed so I'll try my best. I don't know what else to do since no one responded.

If someone does want to respond, at least tell me what MP version I should go with? Are there lots of different ones? Do they have their own good and bad to them?

you can just try flashing CG2 from a stock L7e MP. but doing that will clear all the contacts and messages, timers, etc.

to do that, use FB3 to flash only CG2. just untick all CGs except one.

Yeah I dont mind losing all my messages or contacts or whatever since I just got the phone. I havent transferred my numbers on anything yet.

I went to the downloads section and I think based on you post, I should install:
R452D_G_08.02.06R_LP0021.shx : LP0021
because you said do it with the one that has CG2 and the one above this one clearly says "No CG2" altho that one is 15M and this one is only 1M.

But you did say stock MP, so now I'm thinking I should flash to
L7imode - B1A63090
because this says stock MP.

So now I'm not sure?

OK, here is what I did-
I went online and found another website that had that software that for whatever reason I couldnt' download from your site. I got it and installed that. Then I got the FB3, didnt register it yet. Then I connected the phone to my computer via USB, computer recognized it, and I opened up FB3 and it was connected. I downloaded the R452D_G_08.03.0AR reflash file.

I opened up FB3, and it recognzied my phone, then I clicked on all the CGs and did a read data, because I assumed this meant back up, not sure. After about 5 minutes of reading, it said it was done.

However, the phone is showing as not connected. I've restarted and plug and unplugged, dont know why FB3 is not recognizing it anymore.

My plan is to write that flash to the phone and see if that fixes my problems.

Anyways, just left FB3 alone, and then it just recognized my phone, so I was able to write that new reflash, but nothing has changed on my phone. Still have the same issues, and still have no option to insert animations (i'm starting to think I have to seem edit..actually, I dont know, I just said that because it sounded like something I'll probably have to do). Still have UK english and still cant send text messages, still cant load browser.

Actually, nevermind- I just looked at the S/W version on the phone, its still the original, so I guess FB3 didnt write it to the phone? Oh man, this is crazy. I'm spending way too much time on this. Can't believe I spent all that money on this phone. Probably just gonna get a regular SLVR from eBay, unless someone can help me out here'

OK, I was able to get FB3 to recognize the phone and so when it did, I reflashed with that new flash, but still, afterwards, my flash is still the old one.

So I guess my problem here is, why isnt FB3 writing the new flash to my phone? Everything on the screen and my phone shows that the flash is occuring and happens with no problems, yet when its done and I look at the phone, its still the same???

Did it twice, still doesnt look like the flash wrote the phone since its still the old version. Still dont know how to consistently get FB3 to see the phone...I just keep unplugging and turn off and on till sooner or later FB3 recognizes the phone.

Dont know what to do...hope its not because I didnt register FB3. Do I really have to pay for the program to get it to write?

okay after spending HOURS AND HOURS and flashing with every possible flash I could find and using FB3, there is nothing that can fix what I want.

The main thing: I want to be able to insert animations in a text message. Apparently the L71's don't have that option. Even tho, when a friend of mine using her Razr sent me a text message with the animations from her phone, I got them on my phone. I dont think the animation was sent over the airwaves. I'm positve the animations are based on the phone, its just a mater of knowin where they are so you can insert them. it probably is a seem edit, but since I spent half my day flashing, I really dont want to spend another day seeming.

So ill just have to buy a new phone I guess. Unless someone can help. I definitely flashed with the two flex's that are available. I even went to a regular L7 flash to see if that woul work but it did not.

wow! make sure you are connected in data/fax mode every time you are connecting your phone. there is a problem with the site last 16hours and that's why you cannot download some files. have you tried the CG2s of the links i have given?

Yeah I guess it was your site, because I can download all of them now.

Yes, I tried all those links and uploaded them all. All it did was change around my background and things like that, but still havent figured out how to insert animations into text messages. I really think its a seem edit or something. I know the animations are in there since I can recieve them from others, but cant find a way to locate/insert them.

the animations are ems and emp files that are located in c/mobile/picture. if you want them to be seen, just untick the "hidden" using Motorola Explorer.

This is what you're telling to use right? Are there any drivers that I need? The only mod software I have is FB3 on my computer. I know a lot of these programs require P2K or RSD lite to be installed first so that the drivers are there.

Never used Motorola Explorer before...is it pretty easy?

OK, did that, and I unchecked the EMS. So thanks for that...HOWEVER, I still can not get them in a message.

When I'm in a message, I go to Options>Insert> and from there I only see Picture/New Picture/Voice Note/New Voice Note/Sound/Video/New Video/Text Template/Contact Info
and in none of those are the things I unchecked. I know I unchecked it correctly because I also unchecked some other pictures, so they became un-hidden so when I go to Insert>Picture, those will come up.

So now I have the EMS unchecked/unhidden. Problem is, now I need a menu that says Insert>Animation

i think that's how it is. where did you find out of this insert animation before? on what phone?

On every EMS capable Motorola phone in the last 5 years. I've personally had the v710, Razr V3, V3c, and V3m (on Verizon) and Razr V3, Razr V3i, and Slvr L7 (on T-mobile/Cingular). On all those phones, you go to your text messages and while you are writing one, you go to insert and an option will be "animation".

The Samsung phones also have this, the T319 or some version, it was a slider type phone...you could also insert those same animations (same names but weaker graphics)

well i don't have that on my L7. it might be only working on Cingular/T-Mobile. i use unbranded firmware.

Well then I guess the question is, can I flash/flex my L71 with some kind of T-mobile branding software? I went to the download section for L71's and don't see anything?

the phone is still new and there are few stock firmwares available for that phone.

Hey cru :wave:, not heeding to your advice on HOFO, i did get the l71, even though i thought it was an l7e/i. Im not having your problems yet, but i was on another post on here and it said in order to get a browser connection, you need to go to:

WebAccess > WebSessions > T-Zones

If T-Zones isnt on there then you need to go back to T-Mo settings config and download it again. It worked for me. :)
