Motorola ZN5 hands on

It’s here, the much-awaited much-rumored 5 megapixel camera phone from Motorola with the Kodak lens. This is a slider phone running on the MOTOMAGX Linux platform, and it’s actually not the worst looking phone. There is one major issue we ran into before we even started playing with it and that’s that the 5 megapixel camera is NOT autofocus! The fact that Moto doesn’t get it is really disheartening because they could have had a decent phone in the market which they desperately needed. In terms of specs, the device is a quad-band EDGE phone (FAIL) has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 100MB of internal memory, microSD slot, and a “ROKR” type touch wheel which also serves as the 5-way navigational pad.

SJ: I'm not too sure if this is the real ZN5. It doesn't look like it. What do you guys think ?

That site and pretty much everywhere. It pisses me off, it's not like someone is begging them to buy one. Either way people will :language: about it ! With the other Zn5 everyone threw hissy fits for the lack of WiFi, now they just found another thing to :language: about, the lack of autofocus. Maybe it will be added since this is a proto, but you can't stop them from doing their idiotic thing.

Coming for a Motorola turned Winmo/symbian enthusiast, My 2 cents:

Forget the lack of AF and 3G, a decent software platform is the LEAST they can do.

Sure MOTOMAGX sounds great in theory, but, fact is that they haven't released an SDK for this platform, nor have they announced any plans of doing so. Besides calling motomagx linux is wrong IMHO, because last time I checked it wasn't open source(correct me if i'm wrong). UIQ sucks, I've tried it on the M600i and got tired of it after a few days.

Moto needs to jump on the already well established symbian/WinMo bandwagon, or release some decent android phones in the near future(being part of the OHA and all) to stay in the game.

motorola is taking out a lot of slider´s phones, but i like another format, more traditional, like v300, v360, k1, v8, if you know that i mean.

I wouldn't be suprised if it was a new phone, They are said to be releasing a fair few this year, and having 2 5mp cam phones would give them a boost back into the fight

Absolutely, to my opinion, the best looking phone to date.

But it's not that very advanced, at least not the fancy functions everyone jumps about, WiFi, GPS, 5mpx cam, Xenon flash, etc.

Now now guys, auto-focus can be made up for with that "raw" pic format and quality(or was that scrapped from rumors list and this is just another 5mp phone???). Then my questions are whether the battery will hold up all that its loaded with, coughe8cough, and whether it has auto-macro seen in E8. IF it has both and maybe the best pic format, I'll prolly grab this instead of K850(veeeeeery sexy every time I look at it and play with the dummy @ local store).

Autofocus I would guess.

And to be honest, it just proves that no one actually wants a phone anymore. "Oh my god, no autofocus on that phone, epic fail!!!11!!!11!1"

I think it's a nice phone, and regardless of it's lack of AF or WiFi whatever, it's a PHONE, and that's what I rate it on.

i could care less about the camera...or the fact that some can connect to wifi...i prefer to use the phone as it was intended...:D

Thread name is wrong. This phone is no ZN5, it's a different phone with 5 MP camera. ZN5 is candybar not a slider. Look at avatar_43 posting link above, this is the real ZN5.
