ROKR E6 Skin Install Guide

This Guide will help you install skins onto your new ROKR E6.

1)Download the following files.
iPhone Skin (http://www.mediafire.com/?4dnzvnirvvi)
.system files (http://www.mediafire.com/?4vjkooztdzn)

2)Plug your ROKR E6 into your computer and make sure it is set to Memory Card.

Now unzip the following files to and then place the themes folder to the root of your SD Card.

Then take the folders in the .system folder and replace them with the folders on your SD cards .system folder.

(To veiw .system files you must go to the control panel>folder options>veiw. Now click on Show hidden files and folders. Next UN-CHECK Hide protected system operating files.)

3)Now eject the ROKR E6 from your computer and reboot your phone.

4)Now in the main menu of your ROKR E6 click on File Manager>Memory card>themes. Now click on iPhone.lin and hold the stylus down until you get a prompt that says OPEN WITH. Now click on OPEN WITH and a list of programs will pop-up, Click on LOADER then OK.

Now just wait 1-2 minustes for the skin to install then reboot.

Congratulations, you have just installed your first skin.

This may be a lame question, but should you use Eakrins' Skin installer to change to the next skin? I have heard horror stories that Loader doesn't remove the skin properly when changing it therefor overloading the E6 internal memory (a folder that hold the startup themes as well) if you run Loader twice in a row. It freezes the phone on startup? I used both Eakrins' and Loader for my skins and it works great. I'm a little hesitant to use Loader 2X in a row unless somewhere has verified it works fine.

the loader just doesn't want to work on my phone!! I have a vista theme that i'm trying to install on my E6, and it never works. I followed all of alpha's and your instruction with your system files and it just doesn't work!!! what can i do?

Poetic, My writeup says this about running LinLoader 2x. (as does does Alpha43's) See below for his write up on the issue during install:

"There are several ways described in the various threads to change themes/skins. Some seem to work for some people and not for others so it is hard to write a general set of instructions. Two of the methods that I tried are (1) using a skin/theme installer program written by eakrin; and (2) using the linloader script. I froze my phone twice just using the linloader method requiring me to reflash it (see caution above), but found that that Eakrins’ method only changed the status and scroller bar colors and did not change the Global Navigation Bar (GNB) icons at the top and the shortcut icons at the bottom. After a lot of experimentation I found that using a combination of the two methods appears to be a successful (and safe!) way to install skins. At a high level you need to do the following (detailed instructions for each step follow):
1. Download the skin you want and install the skin using Eakrin’s Skin Installer program.
2. Turn the phone off and on
3. If only the status and scroll bar has changed, but not the icons, then use linloader to run that skin's lin file to complete the change
4. Turn the phone off and on and the skin should now be complete.

If you want to change the phone to another skin then use Eakrin's Skin Installer to install the next skin (which will delete the old skin). When you turn the file back on, you will notice the icons have returned to the grey default. It is now safe to use linloader to run the next skin's lin file. Using this method I have successfully changed over a dozen skins.

NEVER RUN LINLOADER two times in a row without running Eakrin's skin installer first to clear out the old skin - otherwise you run the risk of filling up the memory and freezing the phone. Eakrin’s program is a mpkg program that changes the phone to the selected skin or theme, by first deleting the old skin/theme before installing the new skin file into /ezx_user/download/skin and the theme file into /ezx_user/download/theme - so it does not fill up the memory."

Ali - Can you tell me what contents you have in your skin folder? Or rather, how do you have it set up in the theme folder? It may be the skin (as it was in my case) or just a location issue.

Well i am pretty sure the vista skin comes with an MTF file. you must download and install MTF loader to install an mtf type skin.

this is my Themes folder attached, and i had the .mtf Vista skin installed, but when I upgraded to the .08p F/W it wouldn't install anymore, so i tried another vista skin that is install with the .lin file. I first made a themes folder in the root of the SD, then in the folder there is a folder called Vistanew which is the theme name, then right below it the .lin file. i first used skin installer to install my .pskn file. then reset phone. I got a changed scroll bar look, but the navigation bar, and shortcut bar, and the wallpaper where not changed, so then as alpha said i had to install the .lin file. I then made a folder called install in the themes folder as the first folder in the themes folder as said to do in the guide created by alpha. then i used loader installed on the phone from your system files i installed the .lin file. i waited 3 mins and then restarted the phone. nothing changed from the skin install. so what can i do from here. Well ali, to uninstall the iphone skin just go back into your memory card in file manager and install default.lin :) that will erase the iphone skin and reload the default skin.

I did the iPhone skin, worked great! Thanks! One question though, under downloads, there are a lot of skins you can get for the E6, but is there a way to know what it's going to look like? There aren't pictures for any of them or anything. Like the top 4 are omac, football, apple, vista4... is there a website that shows what the skin will look like on the phone?

First of all, your post is barely in English, work on that. Second of all, you can run lin loader twice on the E6 fine. The a1200 has issues with it.

I have a new moto rokr E6. I am trying to install new Skins and themes. I have followed the instructions posted in this forum and installed skins using Earkins Skin installer. But but when I restart my phone only scroll bar has changed and not the icons. Then according to one of the posts I have installed the using lin Loader. But no success. Before doing this I have installed Apple Skin posted in http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19760. This is working absolutely fine. Does this have any effect as in this installation It has been mentioned to replace the java folder in .system with the new set of files. Please help.

Well first off, you should probably use complete words so we know what your really talking about. I have fixed my problem by just flashing my phone with a monster pack found at this site... The problem is, the vibe AND ring Loud and the Vibe And ring soft has disappeared... Also, the pre-installed java games, platinum sodoko and asphalt urban gt are also gone... I have tried to install those games in this forum but does not install... Moreover, the "Blue" color scheme/Theme is also gone... Is there a monster pack that will bring all of those back? Please reply to me or my e-mail... Thanks in advance for the reply!

Hello!

I found a fix for my phone... I just flashed a .8P firmware found in this thread and it not only fixed my phone, it improved it! You'll need to download the signed version not the _dunhill version... A warning though: when I flashed my phone, it said it failed when it tried to restart my phone, but I just removed the battery, waited for a couple seconds, and put it back in... When I turned on my phone, whoala! It brought everything back to normal, even the games, the blue theme/color scheme, and more! I just don't have the soft and vibe option, but who cares? I just need the vibe and loud option... Hope this helps!

Too load your phone in boot mode, you'll need to turn off your phone and before you turn it on, hold the camera key then press the power button while holding the camera key... About flashing, well it takes a lot of explanation, there's a Guide here on how to flash your phone...

I followed instructions to install iphone theme to the T and it was working. However, since its only first few days for my e6, i was kinda playing around with the phone and accidently switched on the blue skin that comes preinstalled with the phone firmware. So now all the cool iphone icons etc are gone! (I think somebody else also had the same experience)
Now I am skeptical about running the skin loader (lilloader) again to load iphone skin. Can somebody tell what can be done to get back the iphone skin? Do I need to first run the eakrin skin loader (where to get this program???) I have a Rokr E6.
By the way, somebody had commented that running lilloader twice is fine on E6 (its an issue with Ming). Is it true???

I spend quite a good part of the day figuring out what the following meant :

Firstly does 'take the folders in the .system folder ' refer to the systems folder (not .systems) in the unzipped file? There was no .systems folder there. Or does it mean replace the SD card root .systems folder contents with the contents of the theme/systems folder? Finally I took the risk of replacing the risk of replacing the themes/systems folder contents with the contents of the SDCard/.systems folder contents.

Ran the ipHone.lin and opened with the Eakrins intaller. After reboot all the scrollbars and menus turned black and the keypad numbers were unreadable because they turned black and small ! In a fix I reread the post and then ran the iPhone.lin with LinLoader this time. Rebooted and Viola - I had this cool iPhone skin. I further went a step ahead and replaced the background image with the iPhone background image and Lo and behold - I had a (psuedo) iPhone. I am now scared to replace / change this skin after going thru so many posts saying that it could result in damage if Linloader is run twice. I can live with the cool iPhone skin/themes !!!

I've attached some screenshots - which I took off the phone itself using the cool screencapture program which I installed on the phone.

If you want your background/wallpaper be displayed clearly, it's so easy. Firstly, choose a theme on PC that you'd like to install. Open it and edit the ***.pksn file with wordpad, find the following line "BlendingPercentage = 40", number 40 depends on each theme. Now, you just replace this number from 0 - 100, if you set it at number 100, the wallpaper will be displayed clearest itself without dime layer anymore. After edit the file, remember to save it.
Secondly, copy this theme into Theme folder in TF and install it with normal way.
You can edit the ***.pksn on your phone but it's better if it is done on PC.

So, I followed your instructions step-by-step. Low and behold, everything worked fine. I switched back to the default skin the very way I switched it to the iPhone theme, however, I am a tad worried after reading some of the other posts. Will my phone be okay, say if I use the same methods to switch to different skins I find? Or am I likely to run into the problems others have come across?

This Guide will help you install skins onto your new ROKR E6.

1)Download the following files.
iPhone Skin (http://www.mediafire.com/?4dnzvnirvvi)
.system files (http://www.mediafire.com/?4vjkooztdzn)

2)Plug your ROKR E6 into your computer and make sure it is set to Memory Card.

Now unzip the following files to and then place the themes folder to the root of your SD Card.

Now just wait 1-2 minustes for the skin to install then reboot.

Congratulations, you have just installed your first skin.

This is my 1st post at this forum...
I had installed iPhone theme in my E6...i have followed the instruction in the first page of this forum..it worked perfectly..
but I have few issues to be discussed and clarified please..just minor ones..
1. In menu page in E6, when i try to click the item 'Uninstall Apps' which pops up by clicking the left most bottom icon, I dont get anything in the list..i mean I am not able to un-install the loader application..does this got to be concerned...or will this be solved once i replace the .system folder with the original version? (i had taken a backup)

2.When I try yo call someone..the icons ie the top most bar..(home/contacts/msg/phone)..changes color except the phone icon...ie..it changes to the default one..this is not really a problem..but it looks odd..when the fourth icon is of iPhone and the previous three are of e6..cant really justify our friends u c..when u proudly say i have a iPhone theme..could anyone of u share any such same experience..and wud be better if cud give me a solution...thanks..

Cant the second and third icons in the bottom most bar (ring style/real player/video/....) changed? ..i was able to customize only last two icons...even in setup/home screen setup/...there is no option to change the ring style..(that not a problem, its useful)..but there are options for the next four icons among which the first two are disabled and the next two are customizable..is this the case...coz most of the reviews says home screen can be customized..but nowhere its mentioned how many among those are customizable..
Experts ....can u come up with ur answers for this post and the immediate previous post ?

i own a rokr e6 which doesn't connect to the computer. i've latest drivers installed(downloaded from motodev website). When i connect the phone to USB cable and then to computer, it says "switching to mass storage mode", but the computer doesn't recognise it as another removable drive. I can't do anything which requires me to attach my phone to computer. the USB cable and MPT work just fine with my Razr V3i. Please help!!!!!

Loops101: The themes would be located in the themes folder on the memory card which you should have created per the steps. The default.lin is the original theme of the phone and the iphone.lin would be the iphone theme. You may have to launch the theme again with the loader to switch back. ( press and hold on the lin file in the themes folder on your sd card in file manager and use open with and choose loader.. wait for 2 minutes restart the phone)

I don't think you have to start over again if you have not deleted the files..

=> if you are going to switch often then better keep those files.

Well E6 works well with that concept. I had no problems with it. I have 17 themes installed and change the theme every weekend. Until day I have changed it 5 times. I believe A1200 had that problem where in you had to re flash the mobile. My request to you is patiently read this entire thread from page 1 to page 8 and all your doubts would be answered. If u have any more still please let us know and any one of us who has tried it can guide you.

Any one else if they have any updates or other ways of safely installing themes please put it across to us and also correct me if I am wrong in guiding Loops101 :-)

Just as long as you are loading Default.lin before every skin change you'll be okay :)

i didn't want to take the risk of using linloader on my phone.....so i tried something else
by the way i have a a1200, so i am not sure if it will work for the E6 too, but anyways here goes:

copy the iPhone themes folder anywhere on to your mmc (i store it under a folder called "Themes")

when u open the iphone folder there r some files in it, tap and hold on "iPhone.pskn" and open it with note pad. once u open it, locate the line where it says:
ThemeIconDir = /ezx_user/download/appwrite/setup/themes/iPhone/
and here just type "iPhone.icons" in front of it. so basically u it should be:
/ezx_user/download/appwrite/setup/themes/iPhone/iPhone.icons
save it!!
now install "iPhone.theme" using the theme installer and "iPhone.pskn" using the skin installer
u should hear a voice saying "installation complete" for both of them.

restart your phone and (hopefully) u should have the iPhone theme with the icons and on/off screens

the only thing i noticed that the icons in the menu did not animate but i am not sure whether they r suppose to or not.

To switch back to the default theme open Default.lin in your mem card. As for youtube, sorry your out of luck. The E6 doesn't support flash.

hi... im kinna new... i managed to install the iPhone theme with the lin loader, and how can i install the stock theme? i crashed my phine once and i had to reflash it... when everyone says running the lin script twice in a row, does it mean 2 times at one startup? in other words, if i want to run another lin script, i have to restart my phone first?

its linloader twice in a row no matter what...thats because the space in a folder called ezx_usr is being used up...restarting the phone does not free the space...so thats why u need eakrins skin installer which makes space available by clearing out the earlier skin

in other words...
.lin --> skin installer --> .lin

I have started looking around just to see if I can find a better way. I am shocked that no one has addressed the issue after 13 pages and several inquiries about it.

So far, no luck getting anything installed on the E6...any chance that a certain firmware has to be on it?

Try using the hybrid firmware in the dl section, some of the newer f/w's wont let you use lin loader.

Yay I got mine to work! =] After you load the loader, nothing will pop up. Just wait a couple of minutes then reboot your phone, and then the theme should be installed. Atleast, that's what happened to me. I got so scared when my phone didn't install the theme, I just tried to reboot to see if my phone would still work and when I turned it off it showed the iphone theme turning off and I was like "OMG WTF ASLKJGKLSDAJGSADJ". <_< That's normal though.

You should of said something in your first post about the loader not showing up. Because right after I clicked the loader, nothing happened. If I didn't read that using the loader twice would kill your phone i would of tried opening the loader again.

its becoz of ....when u installed the theme u just need to wait for 3min to complete the installation.....which donst visible.....i had the same problem,...i had warranty and i had given to free service.....they just formated within 15min...so go to the service center and make ur phone format....

cool work man... i had a problem initially after following all the steps given... then i reverted mobile to the old settings.... then without any iphone wall papers and settings it came to iphone setting.... dont know how it came.....
i have few queries:
1 . how should i install a theme without ".lin" file....it has pskn,skn.....etc files.....
2. For installing another theme should i need to change the sys folder in the mobile..!!!!

Last week, i was changing themes, unknowingly i loaded two new themes without loading the default theme in between them...

My phone hanged and no other go i flashed it from the moto service store....

Interestingly, my memory card started asking for password, which i have never used for...

Pls some1 tell me how to get the default files given in the ROKR E6 phone & SD Card in INDIA.
Just go to

File manager -> Memory card -> Themes -> where you can find default.lin... click and hold untill you get the menu "Open with" click open with and select the Loader program... Click Ok... wait for sometime.... Restart your E6... Now it will in the Old theme... If it's not working do the steps again... sure it will work.

i got up to the point where u hold down and tap on open with and choose loader then ok, but nothing happened after that? am i suppose to be waiting for so long, the phone didnt even reboot

Hi... even i got the same issue... Just replace everything in the .system folder... if you find any extra folders aprt from Java and QT download.. delete them... dont extract to .system folder....extract on your desktop and copy it.. you will be able to do that
