this is my first official post here, great and very informative site you guys have going. im new to phone modding for the most part, i mostly got interested because it seems that Sprint PCS locks out all sorts of features of the new SLVR i just got....the most obvious one being that Itunes / mp3 functionality is nowhere to be found, and instead the Sprint Music Store / Media Player exist (where you can of course BUY content from sprint, but cant upload your own).

as soon as i found this out, i did some research, and found this site. I picked up a data cable, and grabbed the usb drivers, p2kman and rsd lite 2.7. im just waiting on the cable to arrive so i can begin...hopefully i can do what i want...

my question is, will i be able to get itunes / mp3 functionality up and running on the phone, totally independent of this sprint crap? should the flash / flex method restore this? will i have to somehow install itunes onto the phone?

ive been reading the guides, but im a little curious what to do next. any advice would be much appreciated

thanks!

yes, you can. first you need to backup your phone as your stock in case you want to get back to that MP. there's a much info in the Guides section on how to have iTunes on your phone. here (http://www.modmymoto.com/guides/slvr/itunes.php)

and you can also check the DL section for the iTunes you want to upload the your phone. here (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=36)

well, the easiest way to get rid of Sprint stuffs is to flash a new MP. but make sure you have the same bootloader and s/w firmware with the MP that you are going to flash.

to check your bootloader and S/W version. hold * and # then power on.

WAIT!

Sprint runs on CDMA, I think you have an L7c.

That's right. So be careful when modding it since some stuff we've done here may not apply to it...

Hope he hasn't flashed anything yet because it will be an instant brick.

haha no i havent done anything yet, thankfully. you are correct, it is an L7c, so it says inside the casing. does this mean im screwed and theres nothing developed yet?

well... to be honest I don't know if what we do here can be done or not onto the L7c. I think you are the first one here to have that verson of the L7. and since Motorola has been very tricy lately with the new firmware versions of the L7, I would think it's not easy to mod the L7c yet. Check you firmware and bootloader

when i hold * and # when i boot it takes me to "boot loader mode USB init", and then it sits there..doesnt show me any info. im still waiting on the data cable to show up, can i not do anything without that? if it helps, the settings menu says software version 24.2_00.3500R and hardware version KAUF0032AA G9LH06C07G0

I wouldn't flash anything on that phone unless it was designed for the L7c. It is very different from the GSM L7. You can probably do seem edits, but that's all I'm fairly certain of right now.

i see. haha im on the verge of just returning this thing and pissing on a telephone pole in protest.

if anybody has any info, feel free to kick it my way

If you're thinking about changing phones, I'd suggest the V3c, V3m, or K1m, since they're the more popular phones so there will be lots of people modding them.

If you want an easy L7 to mod, you'll have to switch to a GSM provider.

wow, that's new. can he make a full backup of this?

i can definitely do so and post it up once i get my data cable. maybe itll help. im definitely staying away from flashing with stuff for the L7, but i think i might attempt the itunes install and see what happens. i only paid 45 dollars for this phone so worse case scenario i trash it and learn something, its not the end of the world :) a friend with a local store hooked me up with a deal so it turns out i cant return it without getting her in trouble. :(

i'm looking forward to this. i want to see what's inside the flex. well, for now just don't flash it with anything as there is no available stock MP for L7c here.

That'd be awesome if you could get a full backup we could host. Yah that phone is new, Sprint doesn't even have it on their website yet! You're ahead of the game... awesome. Let us know if you can get a full backup. PM me if you need help. Or post here, either way.

fyi the newest software version is now 007 instead of 005, just downloaded it last night. i posted up about the phone on a few other forums as well, trying to see if anybody else has figured anything out yet.

still no data cable, waiting impatiently haha

ive been told that the phone is BREW only, and standard java apps such as itunes will not function :shoot: i suspect it will be some time before im able to do much here. however i did just copy a bunch of 320k mp3s to my memory card and they play perfectly and lag free with the built in player. i guess its not all bad.

ok...data cable in hand. ive gone through the getting connected guide, and plugged in the phone, and seemingly everything worked fine. but when i load up either p2kman or p2ktools, windows doesnt prompt to install any other drivers. ive tried disconnecting / reconnecting with programs open, and different usb ports, same result.

not sure what to do from here. anybody have any insight?

some more info, if anybody is interested...

there are apparently no drivers for this phone to work with any of the p2k programs (ive tried p2kman, p2ktools, bitpim, etc), nor are there drivers for mpt. the motorola driver package installs perfectly, the l7c is even detected when the phone is plugged in. but nothing works. this is with the latest firmware and a sprint l7c.

if anybody has figured out anything, info is always appreciated :beerchug:

there is a compatibility problem with the chip in the phones and the usber.sys file that is a core component of windows. It can cause communication problems, errors, etc.. when transferring large amounts of data between the PC and phone...

A way around this is to replace the USBSER.SYS file with an older version... however, USBSER.SYS is a core component of Windows and is monitored by System File Checker (SFC)... if SFC notices a change, it will revert to a "known good copy" WITHOUT WARNING... In addition, USBSER.SYS can be "upgraded" when installing service packs or hot fixes.

The USBMOT2000.INF and USBMOT2000XP.INF included in the various versions of BVRP's DriverTool (http://www.bvrp.com/Customers/Motorola/DriverTool.zip) attempt to work around this instead by installing an older, "more compatible", USBSER.SYS File that has been renamed... so it sits along side the core windows file... this "RENAMED" version does not get touched by SFC or patching...

The USBMOT2000.INF installed with Motorola Software Update program (aka MSU), the Verizon Music Essentials Kit is a stock version so u cud face some problems transferring files with the phone in "Moto USB Modem" mode too.

CDMA motos for the most part are incompatible with p2k apps. You will be able to seem edit, but you will be using a freeware app called BitPim.A degree of modding can be done by using codes, on Sprints version try ##786#, ##3282#, ##33284#, and I think that the Moto opcode code works. You can change the softkey functions, but you need to manually edit the mma_ucp file. Some of the functions will require the Master Subsidy Lock code, or MSL. This can be found with BitPim. Be very careful when modding this phone., or any CDMA phone, there arent MPs all over the place to restore it with.
I recommend looking at this page - http://mark.cdmaforums.com/
While its geared towards VZW phones, a lot of the principles will apply. While I'm not sure, i would imagine that skinning and other basics may match the V3c.
One more caveat, BitPim can be set to not write to files, I stronly suggest this at first until you become familiar with the file system.
