Before I drove over my slightly modded V3 I backed up everything. My bootloader, system files and PDS files. My new phone will be coming this tuesday and I'm wondering if;
A) I backed up my text messages?
B) can I retrieve them and put them on my new phone?
C) Is there a way I can use the backups I have to load to the new phone to make it what my last phone was. A brain transplant as it were?
D) is there an easy way to do it because I'm a total newB and got lucky the first time.
Also, can someone give me a good explaination of a PDS file extention and what it does?

If you used FB3 to create a full backup and created an .shx file, then you can simply flash it back to your new phone and you should have all the exact same stuff... pics, tones, messages, seem edits, etc!

Sounds great. I used Flashbackup 2.62 and have three files in the backups folder. A PDS backup, V3 bootloader backup and a V3 full backup.
I think they are all .bin files. I don't see a file with that ".shx" extention.
Am I hosed?

Poetic was talking about FlashBackup 3. It is not a free program ($9-99).
Having used FB 2.62 you now have 3 backups.
The B/L backup is not needed because bootloaders are freely available in .shx format (flashable to your phone).
The PDS backup would normally be the most important backup as it can save your phone if you brick it. However in your case it will be of no use because you cannot use a PDS file from one phone and put it on another phone. The PDS file is a security area in your phone and is only usable on the phone it came from.
The FULL backup can be used to make a custom monster pack, which can be used on any V3. This will keep all your flex settings, pics/ringtones/etc.

A word of warning though. Check carefully your new phone is a normal V3. Lots of new phones are V3r's and backups from the normal V3 cannot be used. Press *#9999# on the new phone. If the S/W number starts with R374 you are ok. If it starts with R4515 it's a V3r

I've heard thad PDS files are exclusive to each phone and that there's nothing I can do... I'm really scared to do anything.
Can I make a .shx file from my backups?

Ok I got the new phone today. Went through all the steps in the "HacktheV3" tutorial and downgraded its bootlaoder.
I cut and spliced my monsterpack together and when I tried to use flashbackup to load it to the phone I got the same damn thing I got last time. It stopped after erasing the phone and wouldn't load to it.
I now have another brick on my hands. I'm going to get a replacement phone, unlock it and delete the picture files, movie and sounds. Perhaps a skin and all the themes but that's it. My computer won't let flashbackup do anything but make backup files that I can never get back on my phone so what's the point?

I'd be willing to pay someone to let me put my backups on a disk and send it along with the phone so they could flash my messages back to the phone that I lost in the first place...? Anyone?
