If you click connect once more it helped me out. Also, make sure you have the correct phone id plugged into the settings. And one more thing, make sure your phone is on data/fax mode.

I get the same error. I think it may be because I'm unable to turn on data/fax mode. I have a PEBL & T-Mobile, and that setting doesn't seem to be available.

No, pebls and razrs don't have the data/fax option~they're always in that mode. Moto4lin can be finicky. Sometimes I have to attempt to connect 5 or 6 times before it works. I've found sometimes if it isn't working from the main screen you can go into the preferences pane and click connect from there. Could help.

I get that error a lot (well in the last 48 hours since I started modding with poetic_folly's help)... As long as in the bottom left corner of moto4lin it says "status: connected" you're fine. Just go to the file manager section and hit update list to see if you're actually connected. :P It seems (to me, anyways) to just be an annoyance message.

It is not the most stable program. :(

I seem to be having a similar problem. Followed setup instructions to the letter as described in http://mac.themotoguide.com/getconnected.php - but I get this:

[info] Phone is unpluged. Please connect it
[info] Phone pluged as AT
Try to connect
[info] AT phone found
[info] Switching device /dev/cu.usbmodem1811 to P2K mode...
[error] Unable to connect

If I hit Connect/Disconnect, I get another error, and eventually an error message saying the phone is unplugged, and I have to physically replug the phone to try again:

[info] Phone is unpluged
Try to connect
[error] No phone found. Check preferences for AT Vendor/Product ID
[error] Unable to connect

What gives?

So I tried the other USB port, and set it up in the same fashion as before, but now I just get the same error message as vzplaya:

[error] Phone is busy. Please try later

grrrr...

1. Ignore the 'Phone is Busy' message. If it says 'Connected' in the notification box (lower left), then click the 'Update list' button & see what you get...For me, the 'Phone is busy' msg is an annoyance and gave me grief for a whole weekend. (I almost bought a PC...it was that bad)

2. If it doesn't and you get other errors, then check the Vendor ID (AT and P2K), if they are the same, one has to be different than the other. (on my setup, the AT ID is 1 less than the P2K ID. Others are the other way around) Mine is set at 4901/4902. I 'usually' have to click 'Connect' twice before I am (connected).

Somebody said to make sure your phone is charged up. Didn't seem, no pun intended... :-), to matter with me. Maybe it's the cable I use (see below). I still get the 'Phone is busy' msg but everything works.

Also, cables matter. Don't ask me why, 'cause I don't know. Currently, I use a retractable cable for my Palm Zire72 (pda), that has a pigtail (coming from the mini USB port) that powers the pda. I can recharge both pda & V3 at the same time using one cable. Also allows me to use moto4lin to customize my phone. I've tried a couple other dedicated cables & the only other one that works is the cable from my Canon camera, it has a noise filter (for want of a better description). I did not try an official Motorola USB cable, I don't have one to test.

Here is what I have found works the best for me.

1. Phone should be fully charged.
2. Close ALL other applications.
3. Connect the USB cord to your Mac, open Moto4lin, let it load. Then plug the mini USB into your phone. Hit connect. If it doesn't connect, try it again. It should connect in less than 3 attempts.

got it sorted out, rstrachan
you're right, even though it says its busy, it's working - able to ul/dl pix and stuff

now i gotta figure out how to get a homemade mp3 ringtone to work - and improve overall reception - but that's another thread.

thanx 4 the help, all
