The best cameraphone ever made? That's Motorola's boastful claim about the new ZN5 (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=212821), but Crave UK's quick initial impression of it suggests that it might not be a baseless, ridiculous claim after all -- not totally, anyway. The cam apparently fires up lickety-split after popping the lens cover into its open position, and the xenon flash seems to outperform anything with an LED (no surprise there). The lack of 3G is a bummer, but at least you've got WiFi there to upload your crisp, clean photographic work. Crave also sends a shout out to Moto for including a 3.5mm headphone jack, and also for delivering a design that clearly contains absolutely no roots in the RAZR. We'll second that motion -- and if Moto can either deliver this mega-cheaply when it launches in September or pop out a second version with 3G at a slightly loftier price point, we're thinking this could end up being one of the most highly-praised products to come out of Schaumburg in a long, long time.

Good Job SJ! Im thinking that this is a great phone, but as u said the lack of 3G is a bummer and almost unacceptable in the modern world. But, looking on the bright side, internet is free if u use the wifi. I think this will put moto back to its high standing point in the Handset Market.

That means only 1 thing... as a camera phone its a SUCCESS!

Rest assured as a camera phone it will perform great and will outshine the competitors.

Maybe the 8MP phone will be the one with 3G and wifi? :gasthrower:

Camera is good, but rests are too bad and ugly.

My take is that Moto is segmenting its offer, a great music phone, a great camera phone, etc..
It doesn't have a catch all model like the iphone or likes but very specialized (and good ) phones. No 3G? What are we missing here? For the while, at least in Italy, it's too much expensive and nothing really worth to be seen on such screens.
For social networking, a low speed connection is enough, imo

REDEFINING QUALITY: Ian Chapman-Banks (left), Corporate Vice-President and General Manager, Asia Mobile Devices, Motorola Inc. and Bruce Brada, Senior Vice-President, Worldwide Sales, with the newly launched MOTOZINE ZN5 mobile phone in New Delhi on Wednesday.

NEW DELHI: Motorola on Wednesday announced the launch of Motozine ZN5 handset in India equipped with high-quality camera specially designed by Kodak.

The ZN5 is the first mobile phone to combine Motorola’s ModeShift Technology and KODAK ‘Imaging Technology’.

The technologies redefine the quality, convenience and connectivity of mobile imaging devices.

With Kodak Easyshare software and easy access to the Kodak Gallery1 or other web sharing sites, pictures are easily moved off the device, allowing consumers to print, share and enjoy their favourite photos whenever they want.

“Today’s creative consumers not only want to be the photographer, but also the re-toucher, the exhibitor and the critic.

“With the Motozine ZN5, we allow people to unleash their power of curiosity, creativity, impulse and play, whenever the mood strikes,” said Ian Chapman-Banks, Motorola Inc.’s Corporate Vice-President and General Manager (Mobile Devices) for Asia.

To be available in India from mid-September and priced around Rs. 20,000, Motozine ZN5 will come with a 2-GB memory card and a TV-out cable for easily viewing pictures on a television set.

Motozine ZN5 also has an ultra-fast 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus, a Xenon flash, 4GB of optional external memory and optimised settings for low-light environments.

rs 20000 means about 450 us $
wish this thing had gps and 3g
would have given nokia a run for its money

According to gsmarena, there is an auto-focus assist beam, so there must be an auto focus :) I am seriously waiting for this phone, might even add it to my collections of moto from the l71, Z6, e8.... ZN5?

And this one really ROCKS! See how ZN5 handles the Torture TEST!

mape’s reliability rating

Motorola once again proved their status as a manufacturer of very reliable handsets (we wouldn’t expect less from Pentagon’s official supplied). ZN5 wasn’t designed to be a tough phone, recommended for use outside extreme environments; even with that taken in mind, the gadget was able to survive through some of the harshest trial.

Most Motorola phones have been noted to be especially vulnerable to liquids, and it takes a while for a Motorola handset to dry up. Leaving one exposed to low temperatures is likely to end up with all of the battery charge completely drained. The weakest spot from the mechanical point of view is the bulging part of the camera – you wouldn’t want to apply any serious force to that spot.

The high quality of the metal panels is especially remarkable. The metal pieces are completely invulnerable to wearing and scratching. The keyboard is also worthy of attention – it easily fends off frost, liquids and dust. The mineral glass protecting the screen keeps the frail TFT matrix out of the harm’s way (unless the source of danger is car weighing a few tons)

Reliability score

Deep Freezing 4 / 5

Falling 4 /5

Extreme Vibration 5/ 5

Sand and Dust 4 / 5

Pressure 3/ 5

Beer and Water 3 / 5

Final Score 23 / 30

Today Motorola ZN5 ranks as one of the most durable cameraphones in its class. Considering the powerful camera and the overall balance of features we’d say you will never get disappointed having bought this handset, especially when you see the price tag. This fall, the model has good chances for occupying one of the top lines in the sales chart, attracting numerous questions concerning its reliability. We hope this article contains answers to the most of them.

Stay with us and learn which phones, smartphones and PDAs survived all the way through our crash test lab. As for ZN5, we are going to publish a detailed hardware review that will become available shortly.

Hello PRATEEK,

1. Gaming with ZN5 wouldn't be as powerful as Nokia's NGAGE solutions.
2. Phone hasn't made it to international markets yet so we don't know if it can be modded well. Time will answer us. It uses MontaVista 2.6 as operating system, not symbian.
3. Camera performance of ZN5 is awesome, that's a fact.
4. Its target audience is Musiclovers, photographers. It'll sound equal or better than other brand phones.

I am expecting the ZN5 to be officialy released in here, i'll buy one, too. :)
