I press * # power and I dont get a bootloader screen, so I take the phone in a dark room and shine a flashlight at the screen, like you can do sometimes, but there is nothing there. I bought this phone used and doubt that a usb cable has ever been attached to it.

The initial problem is that when I try to type letters, such as in the phonebook, the phone freezes up.

You can try holding the # and * keys while putting the battery in, it may force the bootloader mode. You can also try a master reset of the phone, goto settings, Initial setup, master reset, default codes 6 zeros.

If not then turn the phone off, open the battery door, remove the battery. Now look for a white dot or a little red and white square. If you find red or pink ones we want to know that as well. Put it back together. Now if you have a USB cable install the drivers and see if its detected at all. If it is Google for RSD Lite, ver 3.9 or 4.1 something like that should do. Once installed it should detect your phone and load new drivers, if all gos well RSD should connect and display info about your phone. We need to know that to tell how to guide you.

I was trying to flash it with a flexlash but it always got to "please manually reboot" and then just stop. I did what you said about deleting the dictionary file and that did the trick, I can now use my letters again. I went back and tried to flash the flexlash just for the hell of it and still stops at "please manually reboot". Any idea what's going on now?
