Motorola Ischia Unveiled
- Basic music-centered clamshell
By: Florin Troaca, Communications News Editor

The FCC has approved these days a new Motorola phone, which is named Motorola Ischia (or Motorola EM330) and comes as an entry-level clamshell.

This is the second Motorola handset to have "EM" in its name, after the EM30, which might mean the American company is preparing a new series of phones (or at least a new naming convention).

In the words of Moto (extracted from the User Guide of the handset), the new Ischia is a "music phone with a sleek design that's sure to get attention." Well, I don't really think the phone will be winning beauty contests any time soon, but the pattern on its external case sure looks interesting.

When flipped, Ischia EM330 unveils a pretty small display and a set of large keys that look like they belong to a toy-phone.

The features of Ischia include: tri-band GSM connectivity (900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz) with GPRS and EDGE, Push To Talk, a 3.5mm headset jack, Music player, FM radio, Bluetooth, dedicated music keys (both on the inside and on the outside), SMS and MMS capabilities, Voice mail, Web browser, handsfree, a VGA camera with video recording, miniUSB, airplane mode, embedded games, microSD card support (for up to 2GB) and extended Chinese language support – which kind of makes it clear that the handset will first get to be released in China.

No word yet on why Moto named this new clamshell "Ischia", but it might have something to do with the Italian island that bears the same name while at the same time bearing millions of tourist who go there on vacation every year. Of course, the EM330 doesn't actually have lots in common with the idea of vacation, but that's another story. After all, Motorola can name its phones however it wants to, without having a logical explanation for all of them (the names, that is).

The release date of Motorola Ischia is currently not known and neither is its retail price.

Didn't... um... (pre-Sony) Ericson come out with a phone that looked like that... back in the mid 90's?

Ug. Yuck. Peh.

it seems decent
but it design is beyond this modern day technology.
I might buy it and give my 4 year old nephew.

Motorola seems to be under a lot of burden to be release so many phones (most of which are crappy) but not have present (or beyond) features

come on Moto
I think u need new ideas

if you do contact me lol

not too ugly. But I'd never spend more than $10 on it.

Ugly, lame, low-end. Moto, do us a favour and make a good phone for the same price as that one is going to be. That would be nice! :D

Moto need to reclaim their spot as the maker of the best looking phones on the market. Make another phone that will have the immediate impact the V3 did, something just as iconic and striking as it was back in the day. revolutionise the market and reclaim some dignity instead of messing around. this thing is just a restyled V360 with a radio. Moto needs to try harder
