Tried out the E8 CMCC No lock. It works. Kinda freaked me out when it rebooted into Chinese but it switched back to english soon enough. Gonna play around with it for a bit

I don't like the orange/yellow icons, the placement of the softkeys on the homescreen, and I can't get the internet to work. Other then that everything seems to be fine. Can't compare it to the stock moto since mine was t-mo branded and this is my first flash with it. The interface does appear to be a bit snappier though. As far as functionality goes, so far everything is there, just in odd places.

Ok, I did some experimenting.
1st using RSD 4.1 lite I flashed the cmcc firmware referenced above to my rokr stock e8. It already had the onyx skin and was a stock motorola phone.

The firmware when fine except that the cmcc firmware is a china release and adds all kinds of china related intenet sites and theme colors were harder to navigate that the original stock skin.
The stock skin was much easier to read.
There were some additional games all in Chinese.:fryingpan:

So I was not happy since I live in the US not China.:(

The next experiment was to try a different firmware.
The tried the http://data.mofan.mobi/Motolora/E8/E...Mofan.Mobi.rar
firmware listed above.

The instalation went well and this is a great firmware.:)
It apparently is a updated stock motorola firmware.

All correct english menus were restored in the correct locations and there are a few extras as well. :thumbsup:

So here are the extras.

shortcut menu now contains:
create message
change wallpaper
create contact
bluetooth
set alarm
playmusic

there are 4 themes:
moto
onyx
strings
waves

games has some extra items listed:
backup
motorola setup
motorola text
jamdat sudku
tetris
shozu

Does that vs have radio and song ID? I switched from CMCC to e8_r6713_g_71.01.2dr which does have both. Only downside is the keypad and menus are slow.

The newer one is better in just about every way. More themes, more games, better shortcuts, keypad transitions quicker. the lack of a dedicated browser icon is a little odd imo, maybe I just haven't found it yet. This is my favorite one so far.

Correct phone tools only backs up contacts and calendar.
Think of your phone as a computer and the flirmware as an operating system on a newly formatted hard drive.
The address on the sim will be read as well as the music, photos and video on your memory card.

Any added apps or menu custimization will have to be done again.

How do you like the new firmware?

P.S. The browser in located in office tools and called mobile internet.
I have also installed opera mini 4.1 and it works very well.

just turn your phone off, hold down * and # when you turn it back on.

P.S. New firmware is great - does seem a bit snappier, menus are arranged a bit differently, the 2 extra themes are OK, nothing really special, it seems like only the wallpaper and screensaver changes rather than any text or colours.

Mate, I had stock too (well apart from O2 splash screen when phone turned on). New firmware menu looks pretty much the same, just adds a few themes, more options for the shortcuts and a couple of things in Games such as Moto number backup etc.

Was worried at first cos when it rebooted it was in German, but after reset, it went back to english.

There is still a big of lag, but it definitely feels a bit more nippier navigating the menus, expecially notice it when I press the music button from the main menu and vice versa.

I've found one way to reduce lag is when on the main menu, press the left button and change from the spinner to grid or menu, this improves the performance of the phone a lot.

just one annoying thing about the 71.02 f/w. when changing the ringer profile (by pressing the volume buttons while in standby) one item remains in german and can't be changed. although it's great that it's finally vibrate AND ring, it reads out "vibr. & rutgen" no matter what language you set your phone to.

all in all, i noticed a big diff in the response of the phone. as mentioned, the transitions are quicker. but i'm more anal about this little language error so i flashed the phone back to the original f/w. i'll just wait for motorola to release an official f/w for my region.

Are you sure you have Vibe and Ring now, and everyone says there are more skins in this flash. I still only have Vibe then Ring and still only have the Onyx skin. Did I flash the wrong file, should I flash the CMCC No Lock?? Please help me out.

Hi,
It actually is vibe then ring.
You can rename these ring profiles to whatever you like.
I changed mine from the german translation to vibe and ring.
There are more themes not skins in this flash.
It still has just the onyx shin.
Don't use cmcc unless you can read Chinese.
It is a firmware designed for China mobile service.
The skin is different in the cmcc but it is still only one skin and not very good.

Overall the best firmware currently is in my opinon r6713_g_71.02.07r and the file is dated july 11 2008.

Hopefully that is the one you are using.

I have the Same questions, I also have t-mobile firmware that came with the phone. The Menu interface is fine I just don't like the lagg, Is there anyway I can make it faster without changing my firmware? I already tried the grid menu and it helped it some what. Will I lose the My Faves program in the main screen? Can Someone provide screenshots? of the best firmware?

I just recently flashed my phone to r6713_g_71.02.07r everything works and I'm able to use Google Maps and Opera Mini just fine except for one major problem: I can't send MMS!!!

I went to the T-Mobile site to wirelessly send the internet settings to my phone with no problems. When it came time to do the same for the MMS settings, the download failed. I tried to manually type the settings directly to the phone but with no success. Does anyone know how to fix this???

You will have to set up your mms and internet connections manually.
Here is a instructions on how to do this for att.
All you have to do is edit the connections and put in your tmoble settings after you set up the correct connections for mms and internet.


These work for att mmode internet Rokr E8.
They may work for your internet and multimedia message setup in your rokr e8.

1-In your phone go to :
menu
settings
connections
data connections



2a-You will need to set up 2 connections mmode for the internet and mmode mms for picture messaging.

Click add connection
Create new
For profile name type mmode
Enter the following settings:

Please keep in mind that software does not unlock a locked phone from what I understand.
That is also not a very good firmware in my opinion.

This is a good motorola firmware.

What is your service provider?

A flash erases and overwrites everything, including your phonebook in your phone so you should write these setting down 1st and do a backup.

I've given up and decided to re-flash my phone and ditch the useless Rogers branded software.

I am using RSD lite 3.9 to do the flash (re-flash instructions say to avoid 4.1 and I read that version 4.2 has a virus). RSD lite detects my E8 fine (connected in Modem Mode), but when I go to select the file to download, the software I downloaded does not show up where it is saved, even when I select "All Files" in the drop down menu.

This is the filename I am using:

Am I missing something obvious as to why RSD lite 3.9 won't open the software file?

Dustin Im going to point you to a better firmware which was made from the one you are trying to load now. I also use this firmware on my rogers E8.

Got it working today. Didn't realize the file was a compressed .rar filetype. Got it extracted and re-flashed the phone.

Works so much better than the crappy Rogers branded firmware.

thanks alot bestwebs for that comfirmation. indeed i;m currently using r6713_g_71.02.07r and it has all that u mentioned. i think it is the best among all other firmware that i hv installed and i can get u details on those other firmware later possibly upload it for people to download. one problem i have is i have never been able to install any skin before i have tried so many things but there is always a problem.
i went to e8mod and an article said i had to flash CG52 to my e8 . i have been donig this with all firmware that i install on my phone but whenever i install this, there is always a problem, either the songid application will not work (application cannot run due to and internal error) and/or the the games will not work at all also with the same error message. because of this problem i cannot install any skin on my phone and its quite annoying not being able to explore the e8 to the fullest. yeah, can you tell me what version p2k works with e8 and how to use it, because that is also not working. i was once using E398 and i must say it is a great phone. please help me out.thanks.
