How To: successful flash with ShxFlasher - guide for idiots

[Heavy Fluid]

What you need:

Mac computer
Motorola RAZR V3
ShxFlasher
Monsterpack of your choice.

1. Take your time with this. DO NOT RUSH, or you will make a mistake.

2. Back up anything that you don't want to lose.

3. Download ShxFlasher and the monsterpack, and unzip/unrar them. Open ShxFlasher, and follow the directions. For your protection, write down your USB ID (this helped me IMMENSELY).

4. After your USB ID is entered, select Browse to find your .shx file. I saved mine to the desktop. Find your .shx file and select it.

5. Select flash.

6. Once the phone says S/W update in progress, and there are numbers scrolling on the screen of your computer, stand up, and walk away from your computer for about 15 minutes. DO NOT mess with ShxFlasher while it is flashing your phone. I made this mistake because I didn't think that it was working. Big mistake. Luckily I was able to start over. This is where writing down the USB ID came in handy. The phone was stuck in boot loader mode, and I had no way of getting it out, and of course, it would not let me re-enter that number. Some quick thinking led me to open Moto4lin, because I know that I had a USB ID there. Sure enough, I was able to start over with that number. I AM LUCKY.

This program is very easy to use, it seems. I was stupid, and had to mess with it. Just let it run. Walk away, go smoke a cigarette, get something to drink, check to see what is on the tube, just leave the computer so you are not tempted to mess with it.

I tried to flash my rokr and got an error message. SIG ERROR. I'm now being told that i needed to run a particular flash first. I,m trying to down load it from e398mod.com but it keeps cutting off. can u help

Looks like it. Sweet program. I wrote the idiots guide because some of us are less computer smart. I have been using a Mac for about 9 months now, and I am still learning how to do stuff. I like it when someone writes a guide that says, do this, expect this, and then this it what it looks like at the end.

So far, I absolutely love it. I had so many problems in the past with PC's and viruses and spyware, I got sick and tired of it. Went down a new road with a 17" widescreen iMac G5 and haven't looked back. Just as long as you keep developing modding programs for the Mac, I will be happy. :grin:

As I said in the other thread, I had a fully charged V3, and everything set up. I had saved my two USB IDs in a text document just in case. I had also used them in Moto4Lin as well. I had the modded cingular monster pack by apristel ready to flash, a stock cingular-branded monster pack (http://www.planetmotox.net/monster_packs.php), the latest .17R MLP reflash (http://www.planetmotox.net/reflash_mlp.php), my own backed up images and rings, and a set of stock cingular backups I downloaded from another site (http://www.mark-world.tv/motorola/page13.html).

When I flashed apristel's Cingular monster pack, I sat and watched the numbers scrolling by. Instead of the "completed" message, it gave me some weird sequence of letters and numbers on the last line (that I don't recall now), and just stopped. I didn't know if it was finished, so I let it sit there for quite a long time. I knew it should only take a few minutes, so I was getting worried. Finally I knew it was frozen, and would probably do nothing even if I sat there all day.

So... I just did the whole thing over again, and yes, I had to know that USB ID number. The second flash session worked and I was very happy to see the flash completed message and that scary alien dude staring at me from my phone screen.

I still had one more problem. The phone didn't seem to want to turn off. Now it's true that the monster pack shutdown is very fast, but it never really seemed to shut down. So I decided, what the heck, I'll reflash the phone with the latest firmware (minus language) .17R
Whew, it worked, and now my phone works great.
Personally, I think I'd like a tiny bit more delay on shut down, but that gives me something I can learn about and mod. Maybe I'll make my own startup and shutdown animations and sounds.

BTW, I posted some space related wallpaper for the monster pack in the sticky wallpaper thread (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=145&page=10) in the Media forum. I also posted a cl.gif of the original star trek series uniform badge.

I don't think you can flash your L7. I think I read that if you get that error it means that you cannot flash it.

If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. You could try flashing it on a PC with other programs.

That's the thing.. I have a V3 RAZR. Vodafone are currently giving them away for free here in NZ so I grabbed one. Although bluetoothing pics and mp3s from my Mac to my phone is cool, it's frustrating to know there's so much more I could be doing but for whatever reason it's just not happening for me :/

Same here. But it is not only the location of the app, seems to be the terminal command??
V3 black with bootloader 8.26.
Would like to flash with the OSX theme .shx file, but nothing happends. Luckely phone still works fine, and most items of the osX theme are working superb.
Just missing the startup screens and batt and signal icons...
