So my mother sat on her V3 and broke the outside display glass. I honestly did not know that it was actual glass and not a plastic screen. Is this possible to fix (remove and replace glass)?

I wouldnt want to tinker with it unless I knew what to do... I have been doing some reading on this board and others.. the left hand hinge ... I have read that the way they have the wires run through there is pretty tricky..

If it is just the outer display cover glass which is broken - it's not too difficult. You will have to remove the flip outer cover. You can then remove the remnants of the broken glass and install the replacement. The trickiest part of the procedure is aligning the glass with the hole in the flip cover.

If you google around, you should be able to find a copy of the service manual. There are lots of sources for the lens (glass). E-Bay is one of them.

Easy job. eBay or cnn.cn should have a 3V front glass. Sometimes it comes alone, others sell a kit with the 2 outer glass and the plastic inner one.

You need to pry off the old glass, you may be able to do so without removing the cover. If you need to remove it see the guide for the V3 (http://modmymoto.com/wiki/index.php/Razr_v3_Taking_it_Apart) And just do the steps for that part. Its pop the 4 rubber plugs, remove the screws with a T5 driver, run the plastic side of a sim card or housing tool around the edge to loosen the clips.

A soft plastic tool even a plastic knife is good for lifting away the larger chunks. A strip of packing tape pressed down on a cracked glass will lift away small fractured sections.

Theres a LED under the glass in the metal frame holding the display, nothing to be concerned about just let it be. You just want to get the old glass and tape off.
likely your going to have a few bits of tape left, not a big deal.

Replace the cover if you removed it. Clean the LCD face with a soft cloth, I use a microfiber one from Walmart, I think the whole thing was 2 bucks. If you use a liquid cleaner you must put it on cloth, and the cloth must be moist, not wet. (Liquid in the phone is bad.)

Now grip the glass by the edges, remove backing, align the bottom of the new glass to the bottom lip of the facing, lower slowly. It should go right in. If it fits right, run your thumb over the glass to seal it, and clean with soft cloth.
