I am sure.....I had the V3I a couple of months ago and didn't like the iTunes so I brought it back. Now I saw the V3R was available and got that one because it has a Digital Audio Player in the Java Apps. So I am pretty sure it's a V3R.

if you have removable memory it is a V3i. They come either with itunes or with DAP

Cingular is on CRACK then. All I know is that it doesn't have the dedicated iTunes button on the keypad, the keypad looks like a regular V3 and the color of it is "Fire Red" wich looks alot like Maroon but it sounds awsome, much better than that V3i I had before.

Hey all noob here. Between your site and motomodders, i have learned alot. But thatnks to this thread here i can stop looking. I was wondering why my cingular phone was labled a V3r yet Windows after driver install was saying its a V3i. Its the same thing the other poster had. "fire red" in color which i agree it looks more maroon in color and it lacks iTunes and has DAP in java menu. But if my thoughts are correct I can continue without having to keep trying to find drivers that would say its a V3r. Thanks

It is easy to be confused by the name v3r.
There are several variations of what is being called a v3r by the different companies, so it is important to know the software verison of the phone.
Just press *#9999# and this will give you the information.
The original v3r has s/w R4515.(Mine was unbranded and unlocked) The newer T-Mobile v3r has s/w R3443. Cingular has s/w R479.
Cingular calls it a V3r, but it is actually a V3i non-iTunes.
SomeT-Mobile phones have a slot for a TransFlash card. It may also be a V3i.
Not sure if there are any more versions.
Hopefully, this will help to eliminate some of the confusion.

for the sake of organization we are considering the V3r phones to be the ones without a transflash. and the ones with transflash slots should go to the v3i forum

Thanks for the clarification, cash7c3. This should help with the confusion about which phone it actually is.
All mine are from overseas and are R4515's.
I have no experience with the others.
Told you I liked the organization of the forums.
