I have been doing some reading, which I know is the most important part of modding, and now have a question that I could not find posted anywhere yet.
In reading the "back it up guide" where you are using the flex backup from Flashbackup and adding to an existing MP for a backup MP.
My question is, and forgive me if the answer is obvious.....can I pretty much replace any file I need to in a MP in order to cusomize it to my liking? What I am trying to do is create a MP with all of my preferences so that if I have to flash my phone with the MP created there, I don't have to then reflash the LP, and DRM separetely, this way I only flash the phone once.
Sorry if this should be obvious to me, but I don't want to ASSuME anything......
Theres no such thing as a stupid question...if you dont know the answer! A Full backup will save everyhting the way you have it...SMS, DRM and everything else...BUT... the fun of modding is changing stuff... a new DRM with your setup...new fonts... believe me, the more you mod, the less you will keep things permanent...
Happy Modding!

Yes you can do that. You just have to make sure you are using system CG's from your firmware originally. In other words, you can't start with a Razr firmware if you are building a Slvr firmware. You gotta start with a Slvr firmware, and then edit as desired, and plug back in. Or you can use FlashBackup3 to simply create an mp from your phone AFTER you have done all your mods. Make sure you delete all your pics, sms's, and numbers on phone first though. :D

Thanks. I have FB 2.62 now, have not acquired FB3 yet...

Then if you make a custom range backup with FB 2.62 and create the custom MP you will need to split the MP in SHXCodec and replace CG15 (DRM) with the CG15 from the DRM flash you want, then recompile. CHeck that it flashes ok then you're done. You can include Language Packs in that way too.

One more question then...do I need to rename the files I am replacing exctly the same way, or can I use my own file names? I appreciate all the help and patience with my questions...

Not to sure about renaming, I just left them the same. Once the MP is completed you can name it what you want, as long as the .SHX extension is there.

You can use whatever name you want to use, just rermember the .shx ending!!!! HAPPY MODDING :) ;) :p

New question. The custom backup I made in FB is in .bin format, I want to modify it to remove certain things before I add to my MP. is there a way? I'd rather do it that way then hve to erase stuff off the phone first, then reload it when I am done.. Again, thanks in advance.

Random makes a .bin to .shx converter, or SHXCoDec can open .bin format as well.

I can get SHXCoDec to open my .bin files, but I cannot get any further than that...

What sort of things are you trying to remove?

I am trying to extract all of the extras, mp3 tones, pictures, contacts...etc...that are not part of the basic flex. SHXCoDec recognizes the file, but does nothing else with it.
I'm just trying to avoid deleting it from the phone before I create the MP, so I don't have to put it back again just for the sake of creating the MP.

Ah good luck on that from within the .shx. Thats gonna be WAY more work then deleting it all and re~adding it.

It surely is Kyle, what you wanna do is to do EVERYTHING on the phone BEFORE backing it up and then make the backup of the phone, and then create the SHX file with F&B. Happy Modding!!! :D

The alternative is wading through hex for days. :D

I'm at the same stage. I made a custom range bk up w/flashbackup with everything on the phone as it came out of the box. Since then I've gotten rid of the spam (mms templates, scarlet/silver themes, pictures, lame ringtones, etc) and all backed up as well. This got me ~10mb free space.
Next step is to downgrade to 07.D0 and unlock (just because it can be done). Can I just do another Full and/or PDS backup of my phone the way it is now to use as a MP? Or would I need to flash a t-mobile MP after I unlock?

You can just do another full backup, yup.
