Guide: Remapping Keys for the Motorola RAZR v3re
Why is this useful? Well, maybe you don't often access the internet on your phone, so you want the web key to do something else, like Sounds or Settings. Or maybe you never use the voice dial option, so you want that button to do something more useful. Maybe there are other keys that you would like to change.
This guide will show you how to make those changes.
Part 1: The “Web” key and the “Messages” key.
(special thanks to MotoCat from www.mmus.com for postings regarding this mod.)
Programs needed:
P2kTools
XVI32
The “Web” and “Message” keys are located below the two soft keys:
53611
This mod requires changing the seem 0313_0001 (for the “web” key) and/or the seem 0314_0001 (for the “messages” key.) Make sure you've followed the “Get Connected” guide: http://modmymoto.com/wiki/index.php/Razr_v3_get_connected Also, make sure you have the most recent P2k drivers and the most recent P2kTools (I'm currently using P2kTools 3.0.8.864)
Let's change the “Web” key. (Seem 0313_0001)
First, open up P2kTools and connect your phone. Select the “Seem editor.” Change the “Seem” field to read “0313”, and click “Load from phone.”
53621
Now click “Save to file.” I recommend saving it to two locations so that you have a backup. Next, open one of the saved seems in XVI32. It should look like this:
53631
Notice in the right section, it says “ B r o w s e r yyyyyyyy” (with the little dots above the y characters.)
Pay careful attention to the format. The phone is very picky about how this string of characters is put in. I will describe what is required in detail. First there is one space. Then there is the word (in this case “Browser”) with spaces in between each letter. Then there are two spaces. The remaining characters are the “y” symbol with the dots above it.
They “y” symbols don't appear to be necessary. They can be replaced by spaces. But make sure the spacing I mentioned and the overall length remains the same. 24 values. If there are multiple words, only put one space in between each word (for example “ V i d e o C a m e r a ”.)
A note concerning spaces: The hex value (shown in the left section of the screen) for the spaces must be “00” Typing in a space on the right screen section will put in the value “20” which should then be changed. To change it, on the left screen section just click on the square with the hex value “20” and type “00.”
53641
As long as you have it in the format I described, your changes should work fine. But let me reiterate: It must be in this format to work. If you accidentally altered the overall length, P2kTools won't save it to the phone. If your spacing is incorrect or if there are any other errors, pressing the key won't do anything at all. So make sure you have the correct format. But don't be too scared. A mistake in the formatting won't brick your phone.
So what should you change it to? Well, Anything you want from “ I M “ to “ C a l c u l a t o r “
Here is a list of things I've tried that work. I'm sure there are many others that work that I haven't yet tried.
Bluetooth
Browser
Message
Camera
Pictures
Sounds
Video Camera
Video
Calculator
Settings
Phone Book (for your Contacts or Address Book, or whatever)
Tools
Personalize
Games
More that work (Thanks, Modnmotos :))
SIMApp (For SIM Applications)
Shortcuts
Alarm Clock
Connection
IM
InCallSetup (For In-Call Setup)
Intl Setup (For Initial Setup)
Phone Status
Headset
Car Setting (For Car Settings)
Network
Security
Recent Call (For Recent Calls)
Theme (For Themes/My Stuff)
Here are some I couldn't get to work:
Dialed Calls (or "Dialed" or "Calls")
Received Calls(or "Received" or "Calls") I really want this one, so if anybody figures it out, let me know.
Ring Styles (or “Ring Style” or “Ring”)
Calendar (pretty much any form of the word won't work. Still trying.)
Java Settings
53651
After you're done changing values, save the file. Open up P2kTools. Make sure the “Seem” field reads “0313”. Click “Load from File” and select the seem that you edited inXVI32. Then click “Save to phone” Finally, restart your phone with P2kTools, and enjoy the changes!
To change the message key, follow the steps above for the seem 0314_0001.
Guarantee and Disclaimer: I have used all of the methods and modifications listed above, and my guarantee is that they work on my phone exactly how I described. It is my belief that the above modifications will work on any Motorola RAZR v3re, but I cannot guarantee that they will work on all phones, even phones of the previously mentioned model. I cannot take any responsibility for any damage caused by phone modification, even if it is by my instruction. Modify your phone at your own risk. Please make sure to back up your phone and do careful research before making any modifications.
I would love some feedback. Please click the thank you button if you have found this guide to be useful. If you have made any additional discoveries or if you have any questions or corrections, PM me or post a reply to this thread.
Part 2: Other keys (the 005B_0001 seem)
(Special thanks to yaz00us, who posted a similar guide on this topic for the v3x)
Programs needed:
The seem editor of your choice (I use P2kTools.)
Now, I'll have to warn you, you can't do as much with the other buttons on your phone as you can with the Browser and Message keys, but there are still some useful options.
The seems for the keypad are located in the 005B_0001 seem. Below is a table that shows the hex offset of each button and it's value. To change the value of a key, go to its offset and change it to the value of another key. For example, if you would like the “Voice Dial” button to do the same thing as the “Messages” button, go to offset 16 and change the value to 43.
On my phone, I changed the camera button to be an off button so I can reject calls with the flip closed (rather than just silencing the call.) I also changed my “Voice Dial” key to access the camera.
If you're paranoid about other people using your phone, you could reorder the number pad :)
I've tested all hex values from 00 to 7F (yes, I know I'm only half way.) I've posted the notable values I found. Take it all with a grain of salt, though. Some that may have not seemed to do anything may actually do something in a context that I haven't tested. It would take forever to go through every hex value and test it with every possible phone application, but I've done my best to find useful results. And yes, when I get bored I'll try from 7F – FF.
