Ok, so I've tried many different ways of trying to load games onto my v3re using Windows Vista. Here is what I have found to work best:
I got MOTODEV Suite for Java ME and installed it. It has a utility called Mway (NOT MIDway.) There could be a standalone version of it, but I'm not sure. MIDway and MotoMidMan won't work. In any case, here are the steps I follow:
1. Plug in the phone. Open up MOTODEV Suite. There's a sub-window called Jave ME options. Click on the Tools tab.
2. Click on the Config Tool. Your computer will open and close the connection between your phone. There will be an icon in the system tray. It'll flash red, and then when you wait, it will go green. If not, try running RSD Lite in the background. Note: The config tool may say the phone is not connected. As long as the system tray icon is green, you're connected.
3. Unplug your phone. Go to Settings>Java Settings>App Loader. The app loader will have you plug in the phone. Plug it in, and it will tell you the JAL link is active. The icon in the bottom left hand corner of the screen will be BLUE.
4. Back in the same window as the Config Tool, click Deployment. It will pull up a subwindow called deployment tool. Select the JAD for the app you're trying to load (note, you must have a JAD and a JAR for the app.) Select a COM port. The only port that works for me is 4.
5. In the upper right hand corner of the Deployment Tool sub-window, there's a button with a little green arrow. Hover over it, and it will say "Deploy." Click on it. It will bring up the status
6. It may say "MWAY> Opening port COM4... Failed!" That's not fine, per se, but it's expected. Click on the button repeatedly. The computer may disconnect the phone and reconnect it. If the icon in the system tray goes green, go ahead and unplug it. Run the app loader, and try again. Yes, this does work eventually.
7. It may say
MWAY> Opening port COM4... Done.
MWAY> Transmitting JAD...
AMS: Serial: port[1] Data ready 6 byte(s).
SJAL : sjal_DataRdyHandler : got 15 bytes, expecting 84
SJAL : Timer expired.
MWAY> Unable to connect to the phone! Quitting...
MWAY> Closing port COM4... Done.
MWAY> Transmission failed!
This is actually a relatively good sign. If I can get it to do this, I usually just have to click on the deploy button five or six times, and it starts loading.
8. If that fails, try it on other ports.
I know it's not great, but that's as good as I can come up with. Using this method, I can load all games compatable with the v3re. If I've helped, please click the thanks button.
If anybody has another way of reliably using Vista to load Java apps, PLEASE post and tell me.
