Death to the HelloMoto Wake-up Screen
By: jklong03

After considerable experimentation, I have finally succeeded in
replacing the HelloMoto powerup screen with any image you choose!

Here are the steps I took:

Programs needed:
1. Flash&Backup 3.0.7
2. MotoBootScrnReplL9

Modifications to above Program files needed:

1. In Flash&Backup, under \Program Files\Motorola Tools\Flash&Backup3\Profiles (or wherever you installed the program), modify the R3442_V3_06.prof file (using notepad) and add the following CG8 statement:

[FB3 Profile]
ID=R3442_V3_06
Model=Motorola V3re (V3 06)
UseLdr=1
RamDld=V3_06 (0C90).ldr
Addr=03FC8000
Jump=03FC8010

[Code Groups]
;BOOT=10000000-1000FFFF
;PDS=10010000-1001FFFF
CG1=10160000-10EBF7FF
CG2=11280000-11F3FFFF
CG3=10100000-1015FFFF
CG4=11100000-1127FFFF
CG7=11F80000-11FBFFFF
CG8=10EC0000-10EDFFFF____(this line must be added!!)
CG15=10F00000-110FFFFF
CG18=10EBF800-10EBFFFF

2. In your MotoBootScrnReplL9 folder, modify the offset.ini file and add the last two lines so it looks like this:

[L9 R452J...22.04R]
HelloMoto1=0000000001
[L7 R4513...B7.DCR]
HelloMoto=000055BBC9
Welcome=0000547A61
[L7e R452D...01.0A]
HelloMoto=000022FEBB
VodaFone=000021D03B
[V3Re R3442A]__________________(add this line)
HelloMoto=0000000001___________(add this line)

3. Prepare your boot image you want to use, MUST have the following properties:
____a) saved in .jpg format
____b) sized to exactly 176x220 pixels. (I used simple little, Windows XP "Paint" program (I can't promise other picture editors will work since I didn't try them)

Now, you are ready to do the swap!!

Step One: Start F&B3, select the "V3e (V3 06)" profile, SMG (Binary Files) for the Save Format, and go to the “Read data” page and make sure it look like this:

55651

__________Make the backup and note the time_stamp when you made it!

Step Two: Start MotoBootScrn Replacer. Load the CG8.smg file you just created using F&B3 (should be in the last backup folder F&B3 created based on the time you did the backup).

55661

55671

Step Three: Then select the Last Profile option at the bottom, (V3442A V3Re) Your screen should look like this with the HelloMoto screen:

55681

Step Four: Select and load your custom image (remember, 176x220 .jpg only!) Your screen will look like this:

55691

Step Five: "Save Flash" button

Step Six: Back to F&B3, select "Write Data" and restore the new (modified CG8) version of the CG8. The BootScrn replacer program will
Have overwritten your original saved copy of the CG8 code with the newly modified version with your Boot image in it. So when you restore your CG8, you will actually be restoring it with your newly modified version!!

Voila!! You should have a new customized startup boot screen!!

This is jklong03's guide. I just put it in modmymoto.com's thread format so it will be easier to place in the upcoming guides section.

I followed the steps with close detail. I ensured that I added the text to the profile file and the offset file. However, when i get to step 3 and try to load my stock bootscreen, from the smg file a got from F&B3, and nothing shows up but small squares at the top... like it didnt load properly. Would anyone happen to know what i did wrong?
I said the hell with it and loaded my new screen and wrote it to my phone.... which jacked it up. It would go to the bootscreen that "didn't" change and then turn off again. I had to use my backup file to get it to turn on completely.

Sounds like you've got the wrong code group entered into F&B.
