i would like to change my razr v3re boot screen, but my flash and backup trial has ended. Does anybody know of another program that has the same capabilities of flash and backup or another way of changing it without this program?

F&B is only like 10 bucks, and it's definitely worth it.
I know there are hacked versions available, but I would not go that route. It's illegal, you could get a virus, and frankly, show the writers some respect.
Anyway, to answer your question, I know of no other program that will do what F&B can, but others may know better.

The binary file cg8 needs to be modified you can only do this by using a program like flash & backup to read the phone and make the binary file to be modified. fb3 is the only program that i know of to do this.

Nevr herd that b4. Try to find it Ide like to take a look at it see if its something that might work with our V3re. Becareful what you read out there it might b 4 a diff phone and the same process might brick your phone. Was it for the v3re?

I really doubt this. When I was customizing my bootscreen, the *only* place I found it was in the CG8 binary. Everything that's "welcome" or "start-up" that's in GIF format is an animation. If the bootscreen exists outside the CG8, I couldn't see it with M-Explorer.
On the other hand, if it *does* exist on it's own as a pure graphic file, that may be why I "lost" my bootscreen during subsequent mods. The bootscreen is called Hellomoto.jpg, so if you *do* find that file by itself somewhere on the phone, please post the location :-)

Pywll well what Danation and have found out l8tly is in the cg15 file if you 'break' it open is 3 or 4 pics of the stock bootscreen in there. So what I was wondering was why are they in there when modifing the cg8 actually changes the bootscreen?

I'm tempted to flash back to stock and just change it in the DRM. I doubt it would work, but it's an interesting idea.

Yeah i dont think so either
mobster
12-13-2008, 01:06 PM
i thought the bootscreen was custwakeup.gif
Danation

No, that's the opening animation. Which you can change. It usually has your provider in some animation.
The bootscreen typically says "Hellomoto."

well ive been trying to change that and it just says generic failure
modnmotos
12-13-2008, 03:05 PM
Then it switches to the custwakeup.gif, which at one point on mine was a really cool (black) spiderman symbol. It started zoomed in on his chest then it zooms out to show him perched up on a building with rain falling. I cropped it from a movie trailer. Then on shut down The view was from the ground looking up at him on the building and he dives down coming right at you and it zoomed in on his chest then went black as phone shut off. Only problem was it took up so much space on phones mem I couldnt have the games and apps I wanted. Where does it say generic failure?

Don't know if any of you has been in contact with s5vi, he is the developer of p2k commander, and a member here at MMM too. He works more with Linux. But I am sure he would like to know about the issues with p2k commander and some feedback. His Site is here http://www.el-co.hu/smf/ . But for now Mexplorer from Random rules the v3re scene, lol.

so u need a patch?
Dumba
12-13-2008, 03:35 PM
http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=15981 patch for the Mexplorer, also check over at www.mmus.us about it.
Danation

You only need the patch for the root files. Everything else you can see fine without it.
mobster
12-13-2008, 06:00 PM
well the patch worked
idk about the file change....yet
uho
now when i turn on my phone the screen is blank until i close it and reopen it.
then when i reopen it, there is my pic there for like a second and everything elso loads
ok never mind!! i tried an animated one, the windows mobile startup, and it worked!!
o.k. one last question. I also have a tgoodbye.gif and a twakeup.gif. what are these?
Danation
12-13-2008, 06:12 PM
I looked for those and I don't have them. My instinct was that they're T-mobile stock animations, but you have AT&T and have them. And I have T-Mobile and don't have them. So I have no idea.

Drag them to your desktop and open them to see what they are, are they a different provider animation like danation suggested? I have at&t and don't have those either.
mobster
12-13-2008, 07:36 PM
i tried that and it says that they are each o kb. thats all
but there are the files
modnmotos
12-13-2008, 07:44 PM
If they are 0kb i wouldnt worry about it in fact i'de think your safe to go ahead and delete them if they bother you. Thats your decision. Just make sure before you delete or do anything that you have your phone backed up! So how do you like mexplorer? Litttle easier huh, only bad thing is to see root you have to install patch each time. You really dont need to be in the root directory, but for two mods i can think of. That would be to change the startup & shutdown animations, which if your really technical about it you don't even need to see those. You can just drag and drop the new animations right in mexplorer next to the /a/ folder.(not in, just below the /a/ folder in the white space), thats how I did it anyway. In fact now that I'm thinkn about it did you maybe put those gifs in there on accident? Is your phone new? Could someone else maybe have done it? Anyway the other mod you need the patch for is the provider text change. You need a file in the root so you can modify it in OpEdit and put it back in there, so your phone instead of at&t it could say: "mobster the baller's v3re" lol

yeah m-explorer is much easier to use. im happy that i finally was able to change the startup/down screens. For some reason ive only needed to install the patch once, and it works everytime.

huh everytime i open mexplorer it only shows /a/ dir. To see the root I need to install patch, regardless if it refreshes or not.
Danation
12-14-2008, 12:23 PM
Pretty sure that's how it works... if you can see the root files every time, even after a refresh, I'm all ears.

Danation this statement is for mobster correct? Your agreeing with me on the reinstall each time to see root dir, Right?
Is there a new version that keeps root visiable?
Mobster what version of mexplorer and patch do you have?
mobster
12-14-2008, 04:37 PM
i have no idea what version it is. can i find it in properties or something?
awwwww. now that ive restarted my p.c. it needs to be reinstalled everytime. before i restarted it, i could see the files every time.

yes that is the only draw back with mexplorer
Danation
12-14-2008, 06:34 PM
I think the reason is that it wasn't refreshing, so it kept the changed cached files. Now it's refreshing. Every time you refresh, you have to apply the patch.

Dunno. Could be just back up, could be used for something that's not enabled on this phone. Could be some sort of double-check system. I really have no ideas considering that editing the CG8 alone actually changes the screen--but the fact that they're there means *something*, so when I get a chance I'll break mine open an see what it looks like...
Thanks!

I have noticed that if I re-open M-Explorer within a certain time frame of applying the patch the root files are "still" visible (unless you refresh manually) but that waiting so long (still not sure *how* long) M-Explorer will automatically refresh and they'll be gone, regardless of whether I've restarted the computer or not...
