v3re skin installation

i tried using p2k commander to install a new skin, but on my phone there is only the name. when i click it, it changes to akili. any advice?

Did the skin come with an install file? When you unpack the skin it should have the .ski file and a bunch(14 i think) .dat files, along with those should be one that says install and uninstall. Open pkcomm, on the right side goto the drop down menu at the top and select p2k phone system. Now go back to the unpacked skin folder and open the install file it should load skin now. Hope this helps, let me know if it doesnt! :) With mexplorer open the skin folder and make sure pkcomm put all the .dat files and the.ski file in that folder. Some skins in the install file tell pkcomm to write dir and install files on c drive that means that skin was made for a diff phone. Use a texpad editor to change all the "c" 's to "a" in the intstall folder. Also sometimes and dont know why it will just write skin folder name and not write files into that skin folder, so try installing again. Im just thrown alot out there at ya hope something helps. Let us know how it goes, youll get dont give up!

So question: Can you just move the files to a new folder in the skin folder with M-Explorer? Or does there absolutely have to be an install file?

Ive tried that route before when pkcomm made the skin folder but didnt put anything in it, and for what ever reason some icons didnt change, the wall paper wouldnt switch with the skin. We mod the skins with motoskin and recopy the files back into the folder and everything works fine, dont know what the difference is when you try to copy them into the empty skin folder though after an incomplete install with pkcomm. Danantion crack open the install file sometime and check it out, its pretty basic and even in pkcomm it tells you how to create an install file for skins. Nevrmind here it is:

Structure of p2kc file
1st and 2nd char is the command
3rd char is space

md make directory, followed by directory name with full path.
rd remove directory, followed by directory name with full path.
cp copy file, followed by relative source filename with path
to destination filename with full path
rm remove file,followed filename with full path
at attrib value
sa set attributes,followed filename with full path

SocaSlvr I've tried with my V3re and had no luck with that program. Pkcomm works pretty good dispite a few bad installs, so Ive never had the need to go back and figure out why skiman does'nt work. What phone do you have?(or used skiman on?)

thanx modnmotos it actually worked. it turns out the windows skin i tried is crappy because the menu is impossible to navigate but ill try another. i have one more question though. i have a ton of nonworking skin files on my phone from past installation tries and when i try to delete them with p2k commander, they are still there. do u know what to do?

you can use p2k tools vs to backup and flash

and well lets just say, its not impossible to find if you search

Um.... Well fb3 is a really important/essential program when it comes to modding so I would suggest paying the 10 or so dollars( i think thats what it costs) and own it legally. Then there is the illegal way of getting fb3. Thats for you to deciede.

SocaSlvr how do you use pktools to backup the cg2 on the phone in a .shx file so you can edit it?

ive had some trouble in the past with p2k tools. none of the versions seem to work but ill try again.

Use P2kTools version 3.0.8.864 or later, and it should work fine (I think earlier versions may work as well, but I haven't tried them.)

I'd love to know how to use P2kTools to back up phones.

And on the F&B thing, yeah, you can find cracked versions, but why not pay the ten bucks? For the price of a decent burger meal, you can have the best program for backing up your phone.
