Hi ALL,
I read a reply (by Danation) in one of the previous threads (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=360121) that there are ONLY 3 ways to unlock a V3re:
1. get subsidy code from provider;
2. buy subsidy code;
3. use smart clip.
Also, Dumba replied to my (misplaced) question previously saying that its not possible to unlock unless with a provider code!
(http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=355381)
My question is:
How do these 3rd Party ALL-OVER-THE-WEB companies know the provider codes? Is it using some kind of KeyGen, or they buy them from the providers (which I pretty much doubt - looking at the number of providers out there!!), or what??
Maybe we can use the same technique here too, and make thousands happy :)
Actually, I'd consider myself one of the happiest, since I'd reuse my V3re instead of my annoying "Nokia 2610"

I sell unlock codes so I have the answwer to your question. We buy access to the databases that each provider and manufacturer have that contains every phones IMEI number and it's subsidy, or unlock, code next to it. When we get a customer, we go to the database and look for the IMEI number then we see the unlock code. It's more complex and a little different, but that's a general and short summary.

navyfootball94 are the data bases stored with the providers?
Or do the cell service providers have to go to the same (outside data base) that you do? Danation and I had several discussions on this matter. Post #12&13 Here:

I'm not quite sure. I resell for a company that has access to the database. So were I get my codes from: I purchase in bulk credits from the company to get unlock codes. the number of credits needed for one unlock code (basically the cost) depends on the carrier and the manufacturer. I do know that, where the company I buy credits in bulk , they get the codes from databases. Now, the databases are not shared between the manufacturer and the carrier. For example: If I wanted a code for the T-Mobile G1, I could check the T-Mobile database (Now I dont know if this is actually T-Mobile's database, or what, but it is not shared between HTC and t-mobile), but the code will not be there. So, I have to check the HTC database, which has the code. I don't know eactly why the t-mobile database doesnt have the code to a phone they sell, but I know that HTC has it. This basically proves that the manufacturers and the carriers don't get their codes from the same database. In fact, some manufacturers may have more than one database, so this gives some evidance that maybe these databases maybe aren't owned by the manufacturer, I don't knwo. I once tried to get a code for a T-Mobile g1, but it was taking forever. So I called the company I resell for and they said that the code was being looked for in one database that usually takes longer, so they submitted it to the next database which usually takes less than a day. Both of these databases were for HTC, not T-Mobile or anyone else. It's very complicated and I am sure someone else can explain it better

Thankyou for the explaination, I think I understand enough to know that there are different data bases and they are not nessesarily a providers exclusive data base.
