Back in November, Apple's iPhone 3G overtook the almighty RAZR as the best-selling handset on US soil, and merely a week later, analysts pinpointed Motorola (and Sony Ericsson, in fairness) as being handset makers that could have a tough time "weathering the storm." Now, a new piece of research from MultiMedia Intelligence has it that Motorola's market share dominance is about to end, and end quickly. If forecasts are accurate, rivals LG and Samsung will surpass Moto in 2009 (in America), and with RIM and Apple selling their fair share as well, it's doubtful Motorola will be able to simply swipe away users of other handsets without something revolutionary on the table. Hear that Moto? Revolutionary? We love to be surprised, you know.

Adroid OS + omega wheel + morphing keypad + 3g + wifi + rokr + 5mp autofocus cam + slider + excellent build quality = the win

I know moto can sort something out with that since they have the means, capacity, the existing technology and resources to do so. It is just like the Zn5 + EM35 with 3g and Android. We all know that will be a good phone.

lets just sit and wait for the second "razr boom" like motorola did on the past... is just a matter of time that iphone users start getting annoyed :) by the bad quality

Hopefully Moto will have a second air, now it changed a lot of administrative people and even design has change a lot, now they only put the round M icon and 1 Motorola banner, some time ago they used to put Motorola banners everywhere my E2 has 4 banners and 2 icons of the M, and that doesn't look quite good

I know they're not bankrupt yet. Every day at 5:30PM the Moto HQ that i have to drive past is full of employees coming out so I ditch work like 20min early so I can get past that intersection of the road so I don't sit there in traffic for 1 hour waiting for everyone @ Motorola to leave ;)

i am quite sad.......all motorola news are negative.....and i am trying to buy all motorola phones i can but it isn't any quick fix and even android couldn't help motorola now( maybe it will sell good, but not as good as motorola sold in 2006)
my cousin works at motorola and he told me that Q4 sales will be horrible and they are laying-off people everyday
the only way to help motorola is to buy phones......

the only way to help motorola is to buy phones......

This year I brought 5 brand new Motorola phones : RIZR Z3, KRZR K3, RAZR2 V8 , W230 & recently ROKR E8 . I just do my best to make other people to buy Motorola phones.
In my country there is some kind of "Nokia rules", everybody think that Nokia make the best cell phones in the world :fryingpan: :( .

Motorola is undergoing a birth pains of sort...

2009 is a different ball game for Moto. (Look at the 2009 line up they have for Verizon...if those phones got awesome features, it will surely OWN!)

Moto FTW!

motorola sales in the US are excellent(they sell there 50% of their phones), but their sales are decreasing outside the US so....2009 will be a good year for motorola in the United States, but it will be a bad year for moto in all the world

motorola dosn't have great multimedia phone with gps/wlan and that sort of things, which many people buy today
+ their's marketing really sucks, last moto commercial I have seen was for V8...and in my country(croatia) they have sold a lot of V8's

I hope that they will announce something really cool at CES, and not only for USA/China market, but globally

totally agree with you.here in Türkiye the situation is the same.they announced Z8 but there is no such thing still.they have to change their marketing policy globally.here there are millions of people [do not understand what the quality is and cause of that they blind loyals of :language: nokia] are buying nokia products

come on guys! motorola will never be bankrupt or anything like that they dont just sell phones.. phones is like their little piece to make them look funny...

everytime i go to buy electronic stuff like resistors, controlers, logic IC and everything for my career i come along with half of the components Motorola xD believe me as long as they keep making this electronic components they have the tecnology for keep manufacturing fones ...

look at the technologies of your carriers, transmitters, antennas almost everything its motorola... is the big in comunications nokia is just a little piece of cr&p compared to motorola in the whole communications market

Yes, but that's the reason why Moto split the phones section, bcus isn't working well, and if they ever say OK, this is unprofitable (i think that's the word in english) they'll just shut Motophones down :(:shots:
and that they well i don't know what i would do if that ever happens i think i'd get drunk

Mobile-review, impressions about ROKR E8 (full review (http://www.mobile-review.com/review/motorola-e8-rokr-en.shtml#12)) :

"And it is a pity, especially seeing that the ROKR E8 hasn’t changed at all since the time of my first hands-on session with it back in February 2007. A year was spent in anticipation of a miracle, which, after all, was meant to happen, and realistically, what miracle were we expecting to come? The company’s management can’t comprehend the basics of the mobile phone market, and this sad fact keeps giving birth to outdated projects like this one at an alarming rate. As far as the Motorola E8 is concerned, the best way to go would be to keep its functionality, yet dump the bundled storage, the Omega Wheel, which is obviously an expensive component, and include a big memory card in the box. In other words, it is the way of creating advantages that would be apparent to consumers.
Last, but not least is that the ROKR E8 employs the L7.1 platform, although functionality-wise it is the same as the MOTO U9 with its version L6.3, so I’m quite befuddled what new abilities this release brings.

P.S. It is sad to witness how, month by month, Motorola’s management team destroys every last bit of what used to constitute the company's spirit, instead of trying to find a way to turn the tide and steer the company out of the crisis it finds itself in. Problems keep piling up, and they don’t see the real market, preferring the world of numbers and facts that exist only on paper. That's the bitter truth and it is hard to escape from it. If the company doesn't give its future some deep thought, then its tomorrow may not come. But that will be the topic for a separate write-up. "

Sad, but true :( .

I don't know, this present CEO (Sanjay Jha) seems ok...he was chief of Qualcomm, and I think that he knows what he's doing...
This new strategy for 3 OS is, in my opinion very good, but they are too slow...
they will release androids, for 7-8 months...when in market will be many android phones, this is not a good thing for moto sales, becouse they probably would have bestseller with early android phone...

Hopefully before the 1st Q of 2009 is over Moto will be able to release a phone running an Android OS. Lets give this new fellow a chance. We will wait and see.

and I don't understand something
they announced split of motorola mobile division,
so are they going to sell it, no mather what happened with financial results this year, or if their's sales going better, they won't sell it..?
