I was asked what these were and was honest in telling them I dont know. Ive tried to 'break' them open but could find anything that would let me in to see what the are. So what are they and how do I get into them?

cg7 and cg18 are digital signatures. You can use RandomSHX.exe to extract the bin files from them and view the signature in a hex editor but changing any values in the signature will brick the phone.
For an all you want to know about SHX files try.

Thanks for the info, and that was a VERY interesting guide.
Let me clarify Modnmotos's post. We know what they are.... but what is the purpose of a digital signature?

A digital signature is an authenticity key. It ensures that a file, program, document is original and has not been modified in any way and is secure.
Motorola state that digital signatures/security is something that is imposed on them by the carrier partners that sell their phones, so in the case of my phone, Vodaphone (the carrier) have told Motorola (the manufacturer) to install a digital signature that ensures that this v3re is signed to work with this particular S/W Version, Flex Version and H/W Version only. I'm sure other checks are made as well but what they are are for what purpose i haven't a clue.
That’s my understanding of the digital signature code group but it’s been a few years since I researched this and things may have changed.
