Just wished to list out all the modding possible as of now with the L9...

1. Skins
You can use RIZR/KRZR Skins, just upload using Skiman 0.51 available here

3. Get Modded Audio_cfg.db File from here

This file will increase the volume of Mp3 coming from the Headset, I have also increased the speaker volume a bit


4. Seem Edits can be done using P2KAe for L9 download from here or with P2K Tools 3

5. Funlights/Event Lights
You can put funlights in l9 to make keypad lights to go on off in a particular way.
Download funlights from here

Place funlights.pat file in c:\mobile\audio
Get a list of the seem edits required from the L9 Seem edits file attached above.


6. Flash Backup 3 Profile
If you wish to take a complete backup of the L9 firmware then you can do so with Flash Backup 3.0.6. Just download the profile for L9 attached here.

7. Editting Menu File
The menu file is related with the icons that appear in the main menu. Changing the menu file we can change the items o the main menu & also make a 12 icon main menu.
The steps are similar to as mentioned here. Use the profile of Flash Backup3 which is attached above to take a backup of CG1 to create a profile for L9

L9 is quite a complete phone & i guess there is not one can desire as of now, till RSA is removed.

The basic modding that is available now can be used. It is quite harmless. I think it should work. However you should ensure you take a backup of each file before you start modding, inorder to revert back if reqd.

It is possible to mod the menu file, but it is a bit different from the old style that was common with the L7, V3i etc. Use the method as explained in RIZR section.
Refer to point 7. in my first point, I have added it there.
Just take a backup of CG1 using Flash & Backup 3.0.6. It is fairly simple

there is now an L9 downloads section, and the files you have provided have been added with credit give to you for the funlight.pat and audio_cfg if you want to edit your links.

I havent either.... all I've read about is someone unlocking their phone through TP, then it created this big stir about RSA removal.... because TP is needed for these newer phones....., some1 thought that b/c he unlocked his phone through tp, that he could also remove RSA, blah blah blah.....

i have also read that fonts and languages can be made by opening L7E fonts and LPs with MotoLangEdit, and saving the languages and fonts, and iTap.... then opeing the CG4 from L9 and editing appropriately..... That's some food for thought!!!!

Trust me!!!!.... my ultimate goal is to hack the L9 as much as i did the L7... I'm on the team now!!!!!!!!

man, i love this phone.... theres nothing that it's missing....

my only worries is that i might not be able to figure out how to get the lcd to flash with the funlights, and that rsaremoval might take a while and be very tricky....

but other than that, the phone is amazing!!!

bootscreen can be changed as follows:

take a backup of cg8
split your backup of cg8

edit offset.ini for motobootscreenreplacer
add profile for L9 with

Hellomoto=0

change the bootscreen in the cg8.smg with the replacer

but i am having horrible image quality.... i'm wondering did i do something wrong...

the russian site says to add

but i get a read beyond end of file error using that offset...

exactly my results... i'm gonna create a patch for a l7 f/w with the replacer, and view the changes manually... and also be sure what hex values totally make up the image in cg8, and replace it manually.... see if i can get better results....

i wasnt too happy how the font looks on the home screen for some of them.... i tried making fonts the maxx way, and also with shxcodec.... shxcodec jumbles up all the strings, and the maxx way is just an extra step.... i wish i knew a way to make the font larger....

have you tried the Motorola Backup in the Java? i dont have internet, so i cant try it...

greatdude has posted a list of seems he has gotten to work in his first post, and theres a few extra i got to work.... i havent messed with them a bunch yet tho, to figure out all the ones that work, but i will and there will be a sticky thread listing all of the seem edits that work....

almost all rizr stuff including rizr seems works for l9

All fonts have been updated. Saving L7E fonts causes problems (too small and grainy) with how font is displayed on home screen.

Seem Edits help you to activate certain functions in the phone that are not present in the factory piece. It is the simplest form of modding & help you make certain interesting changes on your phone.

As far as modding goes you have to do it using the data cable & it cant be done through bluetooth.

yes, there is! save the playlist as .m3u file and send it back to your phone. i store mine on tf(transflash!) use notepad and this format:
#name of playlist

you dont need to store your music in the audio folder (used only for example) but it helps! keep in mind the stock audio player (you know the sucky one that came with the L7) will open to play your listing! ALSO you CAN hide the player!!! :thumbsup:

thats odd... i pulled CG8 from the split full backup and got it the first time, however, i used samsung flash imager, i dont know about the other one you are talking about... in addition i also used moto bootscreen replacer to change the image using the offsets 000001 for hellomoto screen and only flashed CG8 with f&b3.0.6 hope this helps!

alright let me clear something up... greatdude10 IS right... that format i have found out is actually for DAP which you can create on your PC BUT the stock player is the only thing that can be hidden(for now) and i dont know what format it uses to create the playlist but fear not! i will not rest till i have figured it out!. so again, the .m3u format can be created on your PC using the format i was talking about a few posts earlier and it used by DAP and stock player is saved in the .pla format which i have yet to figure out how to edit on the computer but that is the only player(known for now) that can be hidden and still playing in the background...

after splitting .bin and .smg files have you noticed that when you compare the *.bin files with *.smg file, CG18.smg is now *9.bin instead of *8.bin? i havent attempted to flash the patched firmware as i wasnt aware that there was more that needed to be patched(bootloader and ramloader)...:shots:

I have been successful in getting the IM client to work with the following.

Do not edit ucs2_wvim.dfl for your carrier
Leave all of the blanks blank or else it wont work

You need to get these files from other wvim files of your carrier:

aol_brand.cfg
msn_brand.cfg
yahoo_brand.cfg
icq_brand.cfg

The stock L9 wvim files did not contain these. They are carrier specific. I have tested .cfg files from L7 wvim and MAXX\V3xx wvim. L7 .cfg's will prompt for alias before login, and MAXX\V3xx .cfg's will not.

Stock player is better, because when u replace music files with computer filemanager from one folder into another on memory card, created before this manipulations playlist works properly.

the trick mentioned here (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52849) can be done but without an autostart app you are stuck at the home screen stating to insert the SIM...maybe something for future reference:confused:
ALSO i am currently working the issue with my L7 not being able to use DKmotocam(read here (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21986)); it does not work with the L9/L72...for now!

Removing Synergy (Screen 3) Application

some flex has a corelet named SynerJ. This makes your left and right soft keys change to "Options" and "Main Menu."

If you don't like that, just delete the corelet using MotoMidMan and deactivate

Yes, it reduces the compression, resulting pictures are bigger in memory size, but haven't noticed a much difference in quality yet.

Yes, I keep getting a text message from "_@" stating that I have a voicemail message. The voicemail count in the "Message Center" remains at 0 even though I may have VMs ... Would the same seem edit work with the L9 as it does with the L7?

I have tried to even try the RSA removal process. The phone won't stay blank past the first step. I've tried flashing with f&b3 as soon as its blank, and i've tried using ramldr2 to send the blank boot_0ac0_patch.bin, but nothing... it's like the phone knows its about to be hacked, and it withdraws.....

remember how some people were saying their phones wouldnt stay blank or go blank in R4517??? i think this is a similar situation...but thats only my opinion

nah.... phone never actually died, it wouldnt let me get that far.... i TPed it blank, then no matter what everything I tried with F&B3 came up error, and everything I tried with ramldr2 wouldnt send loader..... the phone is coming up blank.... but the moment that any type of command is sent, all is gone

we'll probably have to downgrade the bootloader or patch it somehow is what it sounds like:shots: have you attempted using L72 firmware??? not sure if that makes any difference but as you saw with the L7 r4517 firmware; 1ER was fine but 25R was almost a nightmare especially those with 0A.52 bootloaders:puke2:

L9 uses Rizr/Krzr Skins, so use skins from there, they are the same.
If you want to request a new skin, then do so in the skinning forum, the skinners are there

depends on what you are backing up...
if its the phonebook you should be able to do that fairly easy with MPT(moblie phone tools)
if you are looking to backup the phones data then you might be better of to use f&b3 (flash and backup version 3) any version higher than 3.0.4

The themes were supported by my set.
but the media, personalize,etc screens were not executed properly with no logos visible only a blank screen is seen & sometimes it gets restated.
While the default skins r working properly.

Which skins have you tried.
It probably is a bug with the skin itself & not your error.
Post for queries related to skins in Rizr/Krzr Skin section. Even i am a noob as far as skin modding goes.
Otherwise try another skin, not all skins hav bugs, only few of them have it.

right now...we can only raise or lower the volume using motosound and selecting the audio.cfg file...

Just change the moded audio_cfg.db file by P2K Commander.
Connect your phone open the Commander and open your phone's drive A:
then access A:/mobile/system/
And then access your file at the right side and hit copy.

Remember to take a backup of your stock file.

Then restart your phone.
And your done.

because f&b3 doesnt support it untill you download the profile from the downloads section and load the .ldr file in the loaders folder and the .prof file in the profiles folder and your phone should be able to be picked up by f&b3

**no bit manipulation here, just change the actual value in the offset**

offset 1D1 (01 for .3gp video record, 03 for .mp4 video record)
keep in mind this is from the L7 forums but should work equally the same...i thought there was a seem edit list for the L9/L72 once upon a time but im not able to put my hands on it at the moment.
so backup your seems first or make a full backup of your current configuration, make the seem edit and see if it works.

Nope it cant. I hear the sound of the phone connecting to it but when am using any of the modding software the phone isnt recognized. It charges when it is off though cuz i see the blue light

currently the only inphone filemanager that im aware of is the same stock file manager found in the L7...
that isnt to say that VC is not possible but we are working in that direction(or atleast i am)

Thats not a patch. Its just the sound file. Place it in a/ using any of the file managers available in the download section. Do make a backup of the original one before you experiment with the file

Everything is correct in ur phone, it will always show SIG ERR. Just use ramldr2 to boot your phone :)

well, seem edits are something that you can do to enhance some of the features of the phone. they might also bring out some of the hidden features

seems are little containers, which contains a numerical values. in other words, they are like a look-up table. the phone consults these values, before doing a function/operation. u can edit/change/sawp/delete these values, and hence change the basic functionality of your phone. you can even do things like disallow calls/allows mms and much much more.

download this (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=27446) from the downloads section. it has all the SW you need to get started. And just start editing seems from P@KAE, cuz it has a proper seem-map. i.e. it tell u the function of each bit of a seem, and its function.

Have you found nething about the camera edit seem?

the camera edit seem, supposedly increases/decreases compression in photos and maybe videos. i tried it, and cud find no noticeable difference, although i may be predisposed to think otherwise. but i am sure, that the seem edit surely increases the size of the pic.
