Change HelloMoto Bootscreen

Needed Programs:
Flash&Backup3.04 or above (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=6464)
MotorolaBootScreenReplacer L9 (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=6905)

The bootscreen is contained in CG8.

TAKE A BACKUP OF CG8, THEN SAVE FOR EDITING AND SAVE FOR BACKUP

You can either use your own CG8.smg or the one provided.

Open MotoBootScreenReplacer and choose your CG8.smg you will be using, and then choose firmware selection.

1. Click Load from File then choose your 176 x 220 image you would like to be your bootscreen. Click Save As....

2. Save as a different CG8.smg or same CG8.smg

3. Open your first CG8.shx with Flash&Backup

4. Click the CG8, then click the Replace button.

5. Replace the older CG8.smg with the newest CG8.smg.

6. Save as a different .SHX

7. FLASH IT!!!!

on another note... i always used CG8 since i was told about it being the BOOT_LOGO...from the f&b profile. i opened it in notepad and thats what it says at the end of the file...

What options do I need to use?
There is no Active Profile for L9/L72/7x in my F&B 3.0.6

Add the L9/L72 profile (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=6766) to Flashbackup Profile's folder. Inside that package there's a CG8 files. You can use it.
On MotoBootscreen Replacer, choose the L9. The rest, follow the instructions.

I was linked here from the v3re forum. I'm a nooby, but I connected my v3re to f&b3 it connected but no Cg8 was listed. What do I do?

check to see if you have a semicolon in front of CG8.
first you need to note your active phone profile at top right of the f&b3 window(close f&b3 after you make note)
next locate the profiles folder under the f&b3 folder (where you installed f&b3 to)
after that locate a file with similar name as your active phone profile you noted earlier (it should have the name of your active phone profile)
it is recommended to copy that profile and paste it back to the same folder but rename it with something else. as long as you can recognize it from the drop down list as you will need to select it after you are done editing.
once youve done that open the file in notepad and edit as described above;
look for CG8 and if there is a semicolon remove it and save & close.
now you should be able to backup CG8!

these mod only replaces the bootscreen with a jpg file. how about an animated gif? is it possible to do this with seem editing?

Custom Startup can put animation when the phone starts.
The bootscreen is only a still picture.

in the flash and back up screen there is no option for cg8. in the "select code group" column...what should i do???

R^72, I think I did not understand.
I opened up the R3442_V3_06.prof files with notepad, OK. But I see no semicolumn with CG8. In fact, there is no CG8 onceoever in the .prof file. What exactly do you mean?
Besides, even if I have to edit it (insert it by writing it on the new .prof), which is OK as a thought, what would be the start/end address? Wont there be any brick risk? :confused:

I'm having the same issue (not finding the CG8 on the profile).
I am using the K1 profile, but I also checked all the other profiles and I can't see CG8 listed on any of them.
On the K1 profile I have the following:

Searching on google I have seen that some refer to the BOOT as CG8 also, and on Flash and Backup it says: BOOT(bootloader).
Could someone please confirm this is in fact the correct file to back up?

that would be because you are opening the wrong profile!!!
i have attached them for your convenience but you shouldve gotten that before you even started!!!
HERE (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=6766) is the profile for L9 that you shouldve gotten...but no worries!

I've followed the instructions but i when look for the CG8 file to open its doesnt show up. In the drop down menu there r only CG1(*CG1.smg), All supported formats, Flash Backup Files (*.fbp), All files and Everything. I chose 'All files' to view my CG8 and i did the process with Moto Boot Screen replacer. Now when i am saving it the same stuff that i mentioned in the drop down menu r still there. So i chose 'All files' again. When i load F&B and i go to 'select file' to chose the CG8 it doesnt show up at all. Should i choose the CG1.smg? Whats wrong?

choose cg1.smg and save name as cg8.smg

now open your backup in fb3 and replace existing cg8.smg with the one you edited.

Take a backup of only CG8
Open it in the firmware editor in F&B3, and replace the CG8 in you backup with the one provided in the pack, after you've modified it with MotoBootScreenReplacer

if you are then you have everything you need minus the image you want (size needs to be 176x220)

Keep in mind, you only need the .ini file(should be included in the rar) if yours didnt include an L9/L72 profile, let me know and when i get back to my computer i'll upload the .ini and all you'll need to do is replace your current one thats included with the rar with the one i can upload...

there should be an F3u file in the smg folder. open that, highlight the cg8 and select replace. select the cg8 you made, then press save as shx

another way would be to open the .shx under the firmwares section, delete all the other CGs and save only CG8 as .smg

you have to take the backup with f&b3, make sure the l9 profile you are using shows the cg8 in the backup tab, make sure u have selected .smg format.... if you can't figure it out, there is a cg8.smg included in the download
