For installation instructions I suggest you look at the respective phone's section as they are phone specific.
Moved to ZN5 section :).

No SkiMan is for P2k Phones.
Just a brief explanation:
The P2k Operating System was the original Operating System that Motorola had developed on its devices (ex. V3, V3i, V3x, E1). It was later developed further into P2k05 (MAXX V6, V9).
The ZN5 on the other hand, is one of the newest devices by Motorola that works on a Linux based Operating System (known as MotoMagX or MobiLinux) instead of the old P2k System (ex. V8, ZN5 etc).
I don't know whether there are similar applications like SkiMan compatible with Linux phones. I still haven't gone that much deep into this new MotoMagX system.
However with a modified firmware, you can install new Skins simply by copying the skin files into a folder on your memory card or user memory on the phone. Something like that. At least that's how it is done on the V8 (another Linux Motorola) as I haven't yet had the chance to experiment with the ZN5.
I suggest you read the stickies in this ZN5 section to get a better idea of how things are done ;).

ok i think i get it, sorta, but i have a problem. i downloaded moto tools 3.08 and skiman apps. i installed the moto drivers and everything. i read the guide on skiman and i tried it but nothing but the moto tools that came with my phone will communicate with my phone? the 3.08 or skiman wont detect my phone? Is that why i have to mod my firmware? Or should those apps detect my phone already? If i am to mod my firmware what will work as far as apps go? what should i use to mod my firmware?

As stated above your post Skinman is P2k phones and will not work on linux phone. Moto tools 3.08 is in the boat it is for P2k phones.
Motorola Phone tools will connect.

o ok i uderstand totally now, that skiman and moto tools 3.08 will not work with my phone which has a linux based operating system. Now if i wanna put a different firmware on my phone what app will i use and what is the reccomended firmware to use? Ill start with changing my firmware. Then ill worry about skinning it! Thanks for the help. Now which firmware and what app?
Theme Manager is what you would use for the ZN5, although i think you need to have telnet enabled, im not sure. I know it works with the V8 though

which "theme manager" are you talking about? I just would like to know what firmware is best, and how to apply it to the phone? if changing the firmware is not neccasary,id like to know that to. thanks.
