Hi folks,

I just got my O2 branded/unlocked V3x and I'm doing some seem editing to get it to work with T-Mobile the way I want. There are 2 areas that I can't seem to figure out. One is that there is a small orange 2.5G icon in the upper left of the screen. I'd like to get rid of it. I was successfully able to get rid of the GPRS icon but not this 2.5G one. The other has to do with the network. Mine says Cingular and it should read T-Mobile. I've edited the seem for Alpha Tag to read from SIM but that didn't work (it was for the V3 though). Also, I'd like it to be on the left side of the screen instead of centered. If anyone has used this phone on T-Mobile and can give me the offset and bit to mod for these two features, it would be most appreciated.

Ed

To move the carrier name you will need to edit the skin, using skinner4moto (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=793). To change the alplha tag you can use this method (http://www.modmymoto.com/guides/e398/customcarriertext.php).

well if it says Cingular then that means your out of tmobiles 1900 mhz band and you are using Cingulars service. you can test it by calling 611 and see if your talking to a cingular or t-mobile rep.

The method used by motox is still the easiest of all.... to remove the operator ONLY!!!

1. Connect your phone to a computer via mini usb cable. Open up phone system files using p2kman.

2. Download all the skin files located under /a/mobile/skins/ to your computer. Save each skins in seperate folders.

3. Now that you have skin folers stored in your computer, open up *.ski file using MotoSkin program. Remember. You'll have to follow these same steps for each skin that you want to use.

4. Click Operator text in the middle window.

In the right window, change the value of Opacity to 255, Outline count to 0, and Position X2 to 0.

Repeat the same steps with Date text and Digital Clock under the Clock menu.

5. Now you see below that Operator logo, Date, and Digital Clock are gone.

6. Next, save *.ski file, and upload it back to your phone using p2kman.

You only need to upload *.ski files, not *.dat files. Make sure to change the file attributes
to 70004 after uploading this file to your phone to make it system file, so that in case you
do Master Clear, this file won't be effected.

7. Restart the phone. Make sure to set your clock as Digital if you haven't already done so.
Go to Settings > Personalize > Home Screen > Clock: Digital

8. Now that you got rid of all the clutters on your main screen, get a killer wallpaper, and enjoy it!

Yeah except he didn't want to get rid of the carrier text, just change it and move it. :D

3.13.2 Changing Carrier Text (unproven on the V3x) (xlr8)

SEEM 0032, offset 4B, bit 6 must be set to "0"
in some cases, seem 0032, offset 02, bit 1 must be set to "0" also

First offset prior to text is the number of characters in the alpha tag, in hex
Example: "Cingular" would require "08" and "XLR8 Is Awesome" would require "0F"
Confusing? Maybe so. A little lesson for counting in hexadecimal. Forget what you learned about counting to "10" in Kindergarten; let's count to "10" in hex...00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 0A, 0B, 0C, 0D, 0E, 0F, 10 (exciting, huh? wanna count to "10" in binary? 00, 01, 10 EASY!)

Second offset prior to text has something to do with the band the network uses (ie. 850/900/1800/1900) I recommend not changing it. It appears as though 01/02/03 denote 900/1800 and 04/08/0C denote 850/1900 and 05/07/09 denote all bands.

Third offset prior to text is the first two digits of the "MNC" code, reversed. Example: For a network code of 123-456, you would see "54" in this offset

Fourth offset prior to text is the last digit of the "MCC" code (digit #2 in the offset) and the last digit of the "MNC" code (digit #1 in the offset). Example: For a network code of 123-456, you would see "63" in this offset.

Check the following offset and bit in 0032_0001.seem and make sure its set to ZERO for "from phone"...offset 4B - bit 6: Alpha Tag Display (1 from SIM, 0 from phone)

If the 0032/4B/6 hack doesn't work, you may need to perform the 0032/02/1 hack to get your custom text to display.

So if I wanted to change the text from “Cingular Wireless” to” Bentley” I would require seven characters, so change the first offset prior to text to 07. Then I would change the text to “Bentley”. And remember to delete Cingular Wireless and any other carrier names that might be present. Also remember to delete leftover characters, for example changing Cingular Wireless" to "Bentley" would leave behind "r_Wireless"...delete all of those leftover characters. Hope that helps.

Earl’s DISCLAIMER: I have not done this mod on the V3x so I don’t know if it will work. If you undertake this mod, as usual, you do so at your own risk and as always, backup your SEEMS before modding!

Move the alpha tag location on the screen using Skinner4Moto

In California, T-Mobile shares towers with Cingular. The phone is reading the network off the tower and not the SIM, even though I have it set to read from the SIM. Somethings not right on the phone.

Thanks to all for the very detailed and informative info. I had no idea this was so difficult. On my SLVR L7, all I did was edit one seem and that fixed it. On my SLVR, it was setting the Alpha Tag Display to read from the SIM instead of the phone. I've done this on my V3x and it didn't work. So I need to figure out what settings are set in which way. I know that seem 0032_0001 offset 2 bit 1 is set to 0, so that's correct, but I think that offset 4B bit 6 and the other one are both set to 1 to read from SIM. They were originally 0 and I changed them and either way it said Cingular. Hmmm. Something's fishy.

I do love this phone though. I sure hope they come out with a US quad band version. This phone is amazing.

Yeah I heard the same thing, but I'll bet they want about $500 for one. We'll see.
