View Full Version : Lost Ability to Change Ringtones

Everything was going great, backed-up all my files, deleted the junk as per themotoguide, added some skins......when I realized I can't change my ringtone. Whenever I select "change ringstlye detail" it simply kicks me out to the settings menu. I noticed that the detail line isn't underlined. Did I delete an extra file by mistake somewhere?
I've also replaced all the files I backed-up before deleting and still no dice. Any ideas?

delete the two "db" files in a/mobile/audio or c/mobile/audio (forget which one) then restart your phone

Thanks, that fixed it right up. It was a/mobile/audio for my V3. I knew (well hoped....but optimistic!) that I hadn't deleted anything important and all would be well (I tend to be overly cautious about these things). I'm guessing these files get replaced by the mma_dcp/ucp files after a restart?

not by the mma, but by the phone, yes

OK. Trimmed the fat again and can't change tones again. Short of replacing every file 1 by 1 and restarting the phone, are there any key files that the phone looks for that would cause this? This isn't a huge issue, but I really like having the extra 3mb available from getting rid of all the junk sounds and skins.
For a point of reference, here's what I deleted....as quoted from "themotoguide.com"

Same thing happened. Gotta delete thos two .db files. Problem is occurring because you are deleting sound files while the phone is not in silent all mode.
The db then gets thrown out of whack, and when you restart it kicks you out because it is trying to access a file which doens't exist. Deleting those tone.db files makes the phone recreate the db from scratch when it is restarted, thus fixing the issue.

Start in Silent mode....I knew I read that somewhere.
Putting the phone in silent, then deleting the db files didn't fix it this time either. Guess I'll restore all the audio files again and start over......if my main pc is ever done being hijacked to play WoW....probablly will be tied up for another 12hrs of crack addict, senseless "game"play....and I use the word GAME very loosely.

Hmm one of those programs actually has a ringtones fix button... I think P2k tools?

Took way too much effort, but I found p2ktools and finally got it to not crash immediately on startup. Clicking the "all silent" and then fix melodyDB" buttons made all my hand-made ringtones come back to life:thumbsup:
Thanks for all the help, and now for the next question.......
