[Guide] How to Get 12-icon Skins on the L9/L72

After 2 days of screwing around with P2K Tools VS and Skiman, I finally managed to install 12-icon skins on my L9/L72, and they worked quite well

Programs I used:

1. P2K Tools VS (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=6647)

2. SkiMan 0.51 (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=3531)

Skins were all downloaded from here (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=129)

The steps are as follows:
1. Open P2K Tools VS and go to P2K Mode

2. Go to the Menu Editing Tab and click 'From Phone' to open up your mma_ucp file

3. Save that file in a safe place, as a backup just in case, with the 'To File' button

4. Add 3 more menu items with the 'Add Item' button

5. Save the mma file on your phone by clicking the 'To Phone' button then exit P2K Tools VS once the file is saved

6. Open up SkiMan and click 'Install'

7. Choose the options for only the date, clock and carrier

8. Choose the skin you want to use click open and let it install the skin. Once it is completed, restart your phone and you will now have a 12-icon main menu with your skins

Note: I've only tried this with mma independent skins so if you want to try skins which have attached mma files, its up to you. If the skin shows only 9 icons and an "extras" folder with the 4 remaining main menu icons, patch the skin with the "Menu 3x4" option in SkiMan.

It has not worked with the original moto skins so yeah patch them if you just want to try.

One more thing for the newbie dudes out there... All the links work and they link to downloads on this website...so please don't bother out members or out admins by asking for the download locations. I was very free the day I created this guide so i took to time to create the links.

you should only use the cable that came with your phone...but if you decide to buy one from a local retail store, look for one that has both of these ends:

I think you meant just the skins rite? so yeah this shud work perfectly fine with the L7i just follow all the steps properly and it shud work. and yeah the 12-icon thing would not work for stock skins only for some of the skins uploaded on this site

I tried to get 3x4 icon main menu by eiting with p2k tools v and skiman, i succeeded but when i try 2 access the option :
main menu>settings>personalise>home screen
i get a error message that "homescreen still loading plase try later". I cant edit my homescreen shortcuts
from phone . please help me overcome my difficulty. i will b greatly thankful 2 u,

I think you have removed Screen3. Am I right.
If Yes, then just do these seem edits.

seem 0032_0001 - offset A9 - bit 1: Show left and right soft keys on Settings > Personalize > Home screen > Home keys (1 off, 0 on)
seem 0032_0001 - offset B9 - bit 0: Settings > Personalize > Headlines (1 on, 0 off)

If time is also not shown on wallpaper then do this one.
seem 004a_0001 - offset 25F - set value to 00. Display Time, if not shown on wallpaper
It should fix the problem

Get connected first by following this guide.

Get P2KAE from Download section
Then, Also download this file & install it as it says

Now open P2KAE & Connect your phone. Click on the "Connect in P2K Mode" on the top. Wait till it says Connected & turns green in colour.
Then goto Phone Services>Seem Function>Seem 32 functions
Click on "Read from Phone"
Do these seem edits now
seem 0032_0001 - offset A9 - bit 1: Show left and right soft keys on Settings > Personalize > Home screen > Home keys (Turn off)

Search for 'A9' in Byte16 & '1' in Bit column.
'On' means tick & untick means 'off'

Do the same for
seem 0032_0001 - offset B9 - bit 0: Settings > Personalize > Headlines (Turn off)

Click on 'Write to Phone' & close this seem

Now do the same for seem 004A & do this seem edit
seem 004a_0001 - offset 25F - set value to 00. Displays Time, if not shown on wallpaper.

Thats it, now restart the phone by click on top of P2KAE

Do the 2 seem edits to 0032_0001
1 seem edit to 004A_0001

You have deleted off screen3, why do you want it back.
If you don't use screen3, then it is the best to delete it.
It consumes power & also slows down the phone. You will notice the phone go a bit faster without screen3 there.

If you still want it let me know.

P2K Commander v 4.9 D or higher.

I am using Krystal Black Edition. It works just fine. No problem whatsoever.
Are you trying to use the mma_ucp attached in the skin file by any means.
It could be a problem because of that.

this is my first time modding. was messin with the black and blue skin and i did the 12 icon thing. But i wasnt get into my main menu after that. I still cant i've switched back to cobaly and my previous ettings and it aint happenin. Do u know whats wrong?

You might have edited a skin that was been used by the phone, did you make a backup of your mma_ucp file?
you can upload that mma_ucp file back to your phone and restart your phone the menu's should go back to normal.

well i yea made a backup file but i dont think its the original for the phone bcuz i added some other apps to the sub menus. So i should upload the file using skiman and then the main menu should b workin again?

Yes!
and then you can try making a new mma_ucp file with 12 menu for your phone and save it to you computer too just in case you might need it.

2. It should disconnect while switching on the P2KTools because it will be switching from TF to P2K mode.

What you should do - >
1. Which OS ur running... ? WinXP ? .... then its fine.
2. Uninstall all the drivers .. Reboot.
3. Install the drivers again.
4. Run P2K Tools ... Let it show you errors.
5. Press OK .. again OK
6. Wait for a while and it will switch automatically.

you can also run mswitch(found in our downloads section) which allows you to switch between P2k/AT/memory card mode

I think you must read the guides. Thats the better option to get the solutions, and it will help you to prevent the messing too.

oka you messed up your phone a few times...that shouldnt deter you from trying "one more time"...
tell us what YOU are doing and we'll tell you whether your logic is correct...there are many different ways to solve this problem but we need to know what you did earlier to help you figure out what you were missing or rather if you forgot a step or misundertood something.

alright well i 1st went to download the P2K tools but i didnt install the drivers lol, so that really messed me up. I got it sorted now, i have the drivers so am ready to do the 12 icon skin. Could u suggest a skin for me to do this with? I have the iphone 9 icon skin. Should i change to the 12 icon skin then mod it from there?

follow the guide as outlined...

done under any menu editor:
- backup your mma_ucp
- make your mma_ucp "12 items"
- save/upload your mma_ucp(depending on if you decided to make a backup and edit a copy of it)

done under skiman:
- install skin of choice(or patch those already installed) and select only date, clock and carrier

you should only need to select those options one time as once they are selected, it should stay...once you've installed the skin, restart your phone and you should be looking at 12 icons once your phone boots!
the L9/L72 is difficult to really mess up but it can be done!
so feel free to try out different things. keeping in mind you make a full backup before you try anything new!

mma_advance_editor is more easily !

Or i will have 12 icons for all of them except those that came with the phone? Also i tried to back up my mma_ucp with P2k tools but nothing comes up when i click refresh. So i cant get it done. only one...
try saving your mma_ucp with skiman and edit a copy with a menu editor...
when i say edit i mean actually add and or move the item to another location...and once you've saved it, you will have to patch the skin with skiman...
the guide is pretty much self explanatory...where are you having problems exactly? you should be able to edit it "as is"...im not understanding what is difficult or what you arent understanding about the process:confused:

yep i did make a full backup with f&b3. i tried with mma advance editor but it doesnt come out 3x4. it brings up extras with 4 items. I didnt read the part about patchin it with skiman though. i guess thats what i didnt do. I didnt follow the guide here, jus one with mma advance editor. And y is it that when i put in sub items they dont work? I have the iphone, liquid space, osx aqua-main(arnee), vektr, venus and xvista. Which skins should i patch?

i assume you are using p2k tools since you are talking about the same issue many have had and had you been reading like ive been saying...you probably would've found out that there is a bug in the software/program
all you need to do is click on ""OK"
did you atleast get that far or did you close it before it read your phone???

Just a minute... Are you playing thru Sounds or thru Videos ??
Play thru Videos section.

Also,
How you are making the .mp4 videos ??

Get the proper coding solution...by xilisoft or try zamzar.com ..and select the youtube video to get converted to mp4 format..

Upload to the phone and Try playing that file in videos.. because .mp4 format ll be visible both in videos and Sounds section..

if indeed your question is "which" program to download, i believe the thread starter has named each program he used. the only thing left is for you to locate and download and maybe unrar or unzip using a compression software utility like ALzip. all of which are provided to you for "free"! course you will need to do some "leg work" and click on over to our "trusty" downloads section and under software you select your platform: mac, linux or windows and from there you can browse or search for the software you so desire! mind you we only host legal, free ware; not to be mistaken for warez which are prohibited on this forum! if you dont know ask some body!:D

some skins require a specific mma_ucp(menu file) they are NOT "mma_ucp independent"
have you tried the stock skins? which skins are you using by the way?

make sure you have the phone in data/fax mode and that you have skiman downloaded. ALSO, it doesnt hurt to be sure you have the drivers installed!
that error message you see is what everyone sees when attempting to switch from AT mode to p2k mode and i think the program has a few bugs but that is just my opinion. in either case, just click on the "OK" button as i mentioned in an earlier post/thread...

that because u have an incorrect/corrupy mma_ucp. Try gettting my mma_ucp.

Ive made an options menu for the LSK, which contains many things that u need frequently.

After 2 days of screwing around with P2K Tools VS and Skiman, I finally managed to install 12-icon skins on my L9/L72, and they worked quite well

Programs I used:

1. P2K Tools VS (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=6647)

2. SkiMan 0.51 (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=3531)

Skins were all downloaded from here (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=129)

The steps are as follows:
1. Open P2K Tools VS and go to P2K Mode

2. Go to the Menu Editing Tab and click 'From Phone' to open up your mma_ucp file

It has not worked with the original moto skins so yeah patch them if you just want to try.

One more thing for the newbie dudes out there... All the links work and they link to downloads on this website...so please don't bother out members or out admins by asking for the download locations. I was very free the day I created this guide so i took to time to create the links.
