since i dont have the cable to hook directly to my pc, i took out the micro card, which is 1gb by the way, and stuck it in the card reader. i opened it up and moved some ringtones that i already had in mp3 format onto thecard. however, the phone wont let me assign them as ring tones. they are showing up in the sounds option as are the other ring tones that are stock on the phone, but when i higlight the new tones, the assign option isnt listed.
ive had this problem before with adding my own tones, and ill NEVER buy them. so what do i got to do to make the phone recognize these tones so i can assign them?

hello? after this post has been here for 24 hours now, theres NO ONE that can tell me how to get the tones from pc to be recognized on the phone? no one knows why small mp3's will play on the sound lists, but wont apply as ringtone? come on, someone has to know :-)

Can't you just go in ringstyle and select the ringtone that you want for line 1 ?

Yeah I had that same problem. And the answer is the ringtones have to be less than 300kb and they have to be P=MP4 not MP3. So you have to get software that will take a piece of an mp3 song and covert it to mp4 and make sure its less than 300kb in size. There you go thats it. I am using Joy RingTone Converter Standard Edition like 30 bucks of the internet, look it up on Download.com it will give you a sample on that will let you get 5 seconds of an mp3. For a ringtone. Well hope it works for you as well.

That doesnt work for some reason.. I uploaded a mp4 file that is under 300kb and it won't even play, let alone assign. It says unsupported format.. Please HELP!! THanks

well, theyre definately less than 300 kb, even the stock ones in the phone are larger than what i put on. i added small ones to test like the ctu 24 ring tone sound, a siren sound, etc. they will play in the sound files, but wont let me assign as a ringtone. any ideas?

I have tried all the formats with all of them being under 30 sec, nothing worked... However, I am not using Mobile Phone tools. I am just transfering the files via memory card... Could this be the reason why? Thanks

I converted a mp3 to a mp4 the file size is less then 300kb and it will play but not assign as a ring tone, anyone know a way to unlock the assignability of the tones? I have tried many other formats all with the same result.

Ok I figured out the solution, well at least in my case, if you have the ringtone that is less then 300k, you need to convert it to a M4A format using itunes of all things, upload it to the phone and it will assign, let me know if this works for you.

well for sprint i've tried pretty much every format and the only thing that worked is .qcp... but this sounded like shit, almost as bad as voice recording a song while its playing. im still trying to figure out which format works because mp3/mp4/m4a/.wav none of that has worked for my v9m which is bullshit cuz i can play them all on the phone just cant put them as ringtone

according to Motorola Tech Support, if your phone is from ATT, that feature is locked out other then that the itune conversion works great for the rest that i have tried

Its strange, on mine some work but some dont:confused: Im trying to narrow down whats doing it, they are all under :30, CBR but some simply wont assign. I tried a seem edit that Keiri posted in a different thread, but something is still missing. Even ones that worked on my Cingular v3xx wont work. Id like to be able to find the seem that let the Int'l flex V3xx play all .mp3s regardless of length or bitrate as ringers, but Ive been way too busy with work recently.

My first ringtone I transferred was an mp3 renamed to qcp and placed in the
MMC(Removable)\MEDIA\voicerecords folder by putting the SD card in my computer. Install the SD card back in the phone and on the phone, go to Tools>File Manager>Sounds>External Menory. Highlight the song you want to use and press Options>Manage> Copy to - In Phone. It will now be available in the same list as the stock out-of-the-box ringtones and can be assigned.

A much easier way is to just bluetooth it to the Audio folder. If you still can't use it, lower the bitrate to 96k or lower and merge the stereo to mono.

it all depends on the carriers for setting songs as ringtones... for rogers you have to change it to .mp4. others you have to have less then 30sec and sum change it to .qcp
