View Full Version : V3re, no options?

Hi all, 1st post.

My original V3 died so I bought a V3, I thought, on CL.

When I saw it had nowhere near the options that the V3 had, I did some digging & saw it was an r3.

So, how do I get it to accept a speed dial number, let me change ring tones for individal callers & plain old let it perform & have the many options like my V3 did?

Motorola tools says there are no software or firmware updates for this phone, is that true?

Thanks.

welcome to MMM:)

there are different s/w versions for the v3re, but before we can answer any real questions, please post the s/w and bootloader info of your phone. this way we know exactly what were dealing with

for s/w version only type *#9999#.

To get s/w version along with bootloader, do this----
Remove your battery.
Wait for 10 secs.
Replace your battery.
Press * and # .
Keeping it pressed, now press The red power button for sometime.
You will get a black screen with some info on that.
POST THAT INFO OVER HERE.

After that , we will try to help you.
Elz, you can be merge to other direction.

My bad!
Boot loader: 0C.C1
S/W: R3442A_G_0E.43.08R

This phone has quite a few menu options missing that the V3 had & I'd just like them back, if possible.

Also, I saw in another thread stuff you don't use that is phone loaded & normally can't be deleted can be deleted somehow with a 3rd party S/W to free up phone memeory?
If so, please point me to the FAQ on how to do it as I couldn't find that either.

Thanks!

Well, our guides are all here http://www.modmymoto.com/wiki// and on the left you can choose the v3re.
But it alsogood to have a look at some older threads in the v3re section. The search function is very useful then, when in doubt what to do, amybe someone had asked the same before. But many questions about that phone you might be the first to put here anyway, it is still a new phone.

I really dislike when people are told to do a search by mentioning teh search function.

Don't you think I did that before I decided to create an account & ask a question?
I've been reading this board for days before I created my account.

I see nothing to say if there is a new firmware, nothing to say about the menus & how much less is provided vs the older V3 & sorry, it's not a new phone.
Judging by the dates in the posts it's well over 2 years old now.

I've given the boot loader & S/W version. How that helps I have not seen a reply but do a search.
I have searched, allot & I've seen nothing to tell me what I can & cannot do.
Maybe I'm not using the correct terminology.
Looking for a bone here guys.

The wiki, basic & at times, vague though it looks detailed, info on the v3re.

R3442A is the only s/w available for the V3re as of yet. As for the menu problem, what exactly are you looking for? Menu's are easily edited to suit your needs. Can you explain in more detail?

It doesn't have the menu & options like in this picture:
http://www.wireless.att.com/support_static_files/KB/PATTLNK_1032006_220-l7_addressbook_speeddial.JPG

That means I cannot change the ringtone for indivdidual callers(you scroll further down) & it doesn't let me store a speed dial even though I have the sim contents copied to the phone.

These are really main "issues" I have with this phone.
All else, so far, seems the same.
Once I can get past this, I think it'll be OK.
Then I'll figure out removing the lame skins & choice they supplied.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
And easily edited for the people who've done it a time or 2!
For a 1st timer, not so easy!

Well, nobody works here as professional. we all do it as a hobby. And nobody was trained by anybody. So we all have to find our own way and learn by ourselfes. I din't tell you to use the search function because I am mean. I told you because it is unlikely that someone here knows answers to your questions. I have seen many threads in the past, in which the member in the end had to be the one, who found the sollution.
It took a long time for a lot of our members to compile the guides as they are at the moment. Most things in there are still complicated, but we didn't find a better way to explain it.
So what I mean is, have a look around, and do not rely on others. The phone is relatively new in modding, even if it is 2 years old. Only a few people had an interest in it, and they achieved some, but by far not all, what can already be done with other Motos. If your problem can't be solved by seemediting, then maybe by flashing a different stock MP.

Yes must be software related, because on my v3re, the contacts stored on the phone can be given there own ring ID and speed dial numbers

i know on my newer v3, the contact info is different than the old one. there is a separate menu function for adding contacts to speed dial. for me, i go into address book, then hilight the contact i want, then press the soft key that says "Options", in this menu i find "Add to Speed Dial".... and the only way to put ringtones on an individual contact is if the contact is stored to the phone memmory, not the sim memory.

I hope this answers, at least part of, your question:)

BTW, Dumba is one of our most respected and helpful moderators... and most people actually dont do a search before asking. i am happy that you researched before posting your problem. Some people just expect us to "spoon feed" them the information without doing any work on their own first. this only creates more problems for them and us.... that being said, Welcome to MMM!! :) you will find that everyone here is polite, and more than happy to help. Perhaps you will like modding your phone and stick around to help others:thumbsup:

I meant no disrespect to anyone.

I just see so many forums where the 1st thing written is
"search is your friend", etc. & no help is given that it over the years has irritated me to see it!

As a mod myself on a few auto forums, I have never said that.

Anyway, thanks for the welcome & I don't need spoon feeding like others!
I just need some pointing in the right direction for modding & where the s/w & firmware is needed!

I have no option "option" on any of the menus on my phone.

BTW, my background is in electronic debug & repair with a PC science degree so I won't need too much noob talk!

And lastly, the phone is for the I use an iphone.

i have knowlege of several RAZR models unfortunately i am not familiar with the menu for the v3re:) you could try flashing a modded MP from the downloads section. just browse around the different MP's for the v3re to see one you like. maybe someone has already made the changes you desire. if you decide to go this route, definately make a full backup of your phone first.

programs you will need are:
Moto Drivers, Flash&Backup3, and RSDlite3.9

there are instructions in the guides section of this forum, especially read the Get Connected guide, Flasing/Flexing, and Backing it Up guides

maybe you can post a screenie of your phonebook... with the contacts blacked out for privacy:)

is there no Menu or Sub-Menu option in the contact list?? it sounds unlikely that you are unable to add ringtones and speed dial

Been busy. I'll take pics within a week or so of the other V3 I have that has an intermittent light on the keypad (I've taken it apart & the indiglo backing is NG) so I keep it as an emergency spare, & the V3RE side by side to show what I mean.

Try checking your phonebook. Are the contacts stored on the SIM or the PHONE itself? If they are stored to the SIM then you can only store a name and a number.

jdyates is right. Check to make sure you are saving it on the phone. If you save it on the sim (personally I prefer it to be on the sim), you only get the basics. Name, Number, and a 4 digit speed dial number. That's how it is on my Tmo V3re
