What is the difference between CG sections?

recently my phone (v3re) froze in a menu for no reason and shut off, since then it would only start in a reboot loop. Many forums say reflashing will fix the razr. I was wondering what is stored within the different cgs and if it is possible to only reflash certain cgs so that things like my phonebook isnt overwritten, or is there another way to restore the phonebook.

well, if your phone is stuck in boot cycle the only way you might be able to save contacts is with F&B3. first you need to force the phone into bootloader (*and# power) to stop it from cycling. then F&B should recognize the phone. make a full backup. there is User Data Backups in F&B under "other features", but i dont know if youo can use this feature while in bootloader mode. its worth a try tho.

F&B also allows you to flash individual CG's, but to fix your phone most likely you will need to flash at least CG2 which would clear all your info anyway. so make the backup first.

Codegroups for the V3re are:
CG1: Firmware
CG2: Flex
CG3: DSP Firmware
CG4: Language Pack
CG8: Bootscreen
CG9: Outer Bootscreen
CG15: DRM icons
CG18: Digital Signiture

Some CG's cannot be separated from the f/w or flashed individually. especially CG18, so you should flash whole flashfiles until you know more about what youre doing. Take all the proper percautions and you will be just fine:)

CG2 will have your contacts. See if you can back it up, then flash a full MP. Then post your backup, and we can extract the contacts for you.
