Using RSD Lite v3.4 - this app identifies my brand new AT&T RAZR as V3re

S/W version is: R3442A_G_0E.43.08R

I think the bootloader is 0C.C1

I'm not finding many posts about V3re..... Should I follow advice for the V3 or the V3r?

Any clarification would be appreciated!

You have a new software and BL version. Not much is known about it yet. Be careful...

Thanks, Jeff - that's good advice. I'll sit tight until more info arrives. With all the posts around E3443U2, I thought mine might be an older version (E3442A)

No, it's newer. It looks like all that can be done right now is to get a backup. Here's a little more info on it:

OK - I think my V3re completed a backup. By using the first link above (thanks to Dumba and Vermsky), I used FB3 and it did recognize my brand new V3re phone. Since I'm new at this, please give some feedback:

SW: R3442A_G_OE43.08R
BL: 0C.C1
V3re (v3_06)

I selected all the code groups for backup, and after several minutes, a 14MB .fb3 file was created.

Questions:
1) Does this backup contain any personal info?
2) If something bad happens in the future (Brick), can this file be used to put it back to "NEW" state?
3) Is this file worth sharing with others to help with unlock/flex/seem learnings?

thanks for your time,
- Mark -

It would be very helpful to others, and yes it contains personal info like phonenumbers stored to the phone and not the sim card or recent phone numbers dialed or photos taken. You would need to reset the phone first to factory, and you would need to save the backup in .shx format. That is also advisable for you in any case, it should create a file about the size of 70mb. That you can zip or rar and come to a size of 17mb rougfhly. Thanks for keeping us informed,

Make sure you used a registered version of Flash & Backup, or your backup will be missing Group code 2....

I followed Dumba's advice and created a .SHX backup this time. Here's the log. It sure looks like the CG2 was copied - and I was using the Trial version of FB 3.0.6.

Jeff - do you think this is NOT a valid backup, since I did not use registered software?

thanks,

If you used the trial version, GC2 was read, but not saved. Open the SHX file as if you were going to write it to your phone and see if GC2 is in the list...

Jeff

Jeff - I did what you asked, and CG2 is listed after opening the backup file. The boxes are all checked for CG1,2,3,4,7,8,15,18.

The size of the .SHX file is 67.7M, but the individual CG file sizes only add up to around 29M. Is that normal, and do you think this is a good backup file?

It appears you got a complete backup? Are you sure the version you have isnt registered? Click on "Help" and see if there's a name under "Registered to:"...

F&B 3.0.6: I get the 21 day trial nag screen upon start-up, and the Help window does not show a registration name.

Another question: I understand that flashing/flexing would be high risk for this new software, but what about seem editing? Do you think it would be okay to try a few of the more common ones (funlights, more call logging, etc) on my V3re?

thanks,
- Mark -

The newer FB3 versions come fully functional with cg2 included. They only run for a certain time or a certain number of times. The older FB3 trial came without cg2, but Random changed that, too many user were let to believe they had a backup, and then they didn't. Your Backup is fine and complete,
About the seems, I would give it a try. see if you can save your seems now with one of the P2K programs so you can always go back to them.

Ok, I am completely frustrated now!

After much reading and various attempts, I am still unsuccessfull with creating a full stock(.shx format) backup of my newly purchased V3re.

I will try to repeat the steps and information that is relevent to this procedure.

1. USB drivers are installed and work properly.

2. Using a registered to copy of FB 3.0.6 that seems to be fully functional.

3. Discovered and installed files in R3442A profile.rar to their appropriate directories thanks to Dumba @ http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52446 (have also tried another profile from a different forum)

4. The operation errors out everytime and I'm really not sure what to try next?!?!

Included are a few images and FB3 progress report. Any help or guidance on how to use the forum properly would be greatly appreciated!

I also noticed that "wmwinn's" device pretty much has the indenticle specs as mine and was able to create a backup. Perhaps I am missing some steps?

I have tried to repeat these steps but unsuccessful. Am I doing something wrong or do I need to do a possible steam edit or change an option before attempting this?

So far that only thing I have done is use skiman to upload skins which have been deleted and left behind undeletable skin info which I believe is using the limited space on the phone. I noticed others are having this problem as well, hopefully it will be resolved soon.

I am learning lots, thank you everyone who posts! If any additional information is needed or needs to be removed please advise me to do so, thanks! Digital1980

Maybe try installing M-explorer 0.9.6m... make sure that application can read the files on your phone.

It appears you are using FB3 correctly, my suspicion is file transfer may be setup correctly? By making sure other apps are working as well, that at least isolates the issue to FB3 - versus one of the drivers.

Nice. I have M-Explorer 0.9.6 Beta installed which seems to connect to the V3re properly. I am able to browse the contents A: without a problem. I read some discussion of being able to browse the root of the A: drive which makes me curious as to what is there IF anything?

The problem of skin info being left on my phone after the removal of skin with skiman makes me wonder exactly where that data is being stored and if it is absorbing extra space?

As far the Flash and Backup program goes, is there any chance that my copy may be corrupt and that is why the process is failing? Perhaps there are other tests that can be done to verify that? Thanks for the reply!

Digital1980

Do I need to do a seem edit or something before I try to back this V3re up? Also, how do I verify that is in fact a v3_06 as I have also seen it called?

One possible idea: I've heard that some people have problems if the USB connection is not at the back of the PC. Front case USB headers may cause problems. Just be sure to plug the cable in the back of the PC (directly into motherboard).

No seem editing required to do a backup.

One other thing to try with FB3: See if under "Other Features" can you back up your personal information? This would be phonebook, datebook, messages only.

I read that too! After reading that the front USB ports my cause problems, I immediately switched to the rear USB ports. One thing I noticed is that V3re searches for the drivers all over again when you try a new USB port for the first time. It was just an oberservation. From now I will try to plug into the same USB port in the rear for consistency.

I made some progress with FB3 by at least being able successfully back the phonebook, datebook, messages up! This might rule out that might my version of FB3 is corrupt and is in fact correctly working on communicating with the R3442A_0C.01._V3re. That R3442A profile addition to the folders with program files of FB3 should have worked, this is stumping me bad! Thank you so much for the suggestion on backing that information up. Very clever! It created a folder called Userdata with a file called Userdata_2007-11-21_215559.fbk which I suppose is the right thing? What methods can I use to upload an .fbk file to this device or another or is it for the V3re only? This could come in handy down the road! Right now I am manually adding my old contacts.

I have a feeling I'm on the right track, come on backup!

I look forward to trying the next suggestion whatever it may be. Posting is like the best thing that ever happened to me.

Just a thought, but have you tried putting the phone in BL mode before you try the backup? Press * and # when you power up?

Digital1980
12-30-2007, 10:47 PM
Hey thanks! That thought never occurred to me and I have not read that anywhere so far. I'm starting to get desperate here, I really don't get it. I'll try that right away! Before I do so, do I run any risk in trying to back my device up in that mode?

I had encountered a freeze up using P2k commander earlier today which sort of wigged me out. The phone seemed to be locked up when I unplugged it from my pc. It came back to life after giving me a gray screen for a couple of seconds.

Thank you for the suggestion minder49, I'll post my results A.S.A.P.

Digital1980,

You symptoms seem to indicate an improper profile setting. Make sure you have the correct (V3Re_06) profile selected. Also, I have had no problems using trial version of V3.0.7! Maybe not the answer, but just a report of what has worked for me on my T-Mobile version (see sig).

Digital1980
12-31-2007, 08:10 AM
Wow! This is crazy!

I went ahead and put the R3442A_G_0E.43 in BL mode by holding *, # and pressing power. The only difference I noticed is that FB seemed to register the device a little faster and it seemed more like the "proper" way to connect and transfer.

jklong03, thanks for the profile suggestion, that is very important! After all of the suggestions and seeing the success others are having I"m starting to think I don't have V3re at all! Even though the information obatained in BL mode and located in the battery compartment area seem to confirm that.

I understand this particular model is still some what new and there is still much to learn! If I am the only one having this problem, which appears so based on my research. Then something else criticle must be very very wrong.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

Yep, RSD Lite says it's a V3re.

One thought I had is to install the Pk2 drivers and FB3 on another machine to see if I get the same error's. I'll do that when time provides with return of an update.

I remember installing the drivers the came with the USB cable which included Motorola Phone Tools and ALSO installing the additional PK2 Motorola drivers found on this site which I may or may not have needed and may be conflicting?

One comment I have is that some of the software located in the downloads section is outdated which probably doesn't matter but if newer versions are available, it's nice to know. Is it possible to make a section for that does something like this already exist?

It worked! It sure is nice to have 2 machines for times like this!

I used the self installing Pk2 drivers (Motorola_End_User_Driver_Installation_2.9.0.msi) found in the downloads section. I also installed FB3.0.7. One new thing I noticed is that my PC detected some sort of "Neptune" driver I think it may have been when I began the backup process with FB. It startled me a little so I quickly closed the balloon. The backup appears to have been completed successfully!

It skipped a few of the "CG" categories but that might be what it supposed to do? Here is the log:

I saw on the MotoDev site that on Dec 19th, 2007 they released 32 and 64 bit USB Handset drivers, version 3.3.0.

The drivers can be downloaded from the MotoDev site (developer.motorola.com) if you need them. They do require a free registration to download, and their EULA prevents redistributing the package, as mikekay10 so kindly posted in another thread. (Thanks mikekay10!)

Anyway, I was able to connect to my V3re using the 2.9.x drivers, but after I installed the 3.3.0 drivers I got new hardware found when I hooked it back up.

Digital1980
01-01-2008, 07:55 PM
Very interesting, pehaps installing the drivers on the other machine did not fix the problem and that it was actually the new driver I had just downloaded. Anyways, it's good to know that and for others to know so they can have up to date software and get the most out of their product with the least amount of hassle.

Thanks again to all who made suggestions!
