View Full Version : List of files on the V3re

Hello - here is a link to a listing of all the files on a stock AT&T v3re. I've made a few conclusions (from a newbie's point of view!), but I'd like to hear from the experts, since I don't have any experience modding other Moto phones.
1) This phone has only one drive. /a/
2) Not many apps can show the files on this phone. (M-explorer & P2K Commander ONLY)
3) With the above listed apps, they don't show ANY files in the root directory! Arrrggghh.
4) SkiMan has errors when trying to delete a skin folder... maybe the permissions are different on this phone?

Please review the above list of files, and reply with any differences from other Moto RAZR file structures.
Your experience & knowledge is very much appreciated!
thanks,
- Mark -

I started to upload my screen shots of each directory but it's very slow to photobucket and I already posted a link to the rar file containing all of them.

It's a shame we're unable to access all the files on this phone. I was very surprised that SkiMan (that's the program I used to generate the above list of files) listed so many files in the root drive... but no apps are showing us those.
Still a few mysteries to solve on the v3re. :(

The attached excel spreadsheet shows all files on the V3re.... the first 79 files are located in the root directory. These 79 files are NOT being displayed by P2KTools, or P2K Commander, or M-Explorer.
http://rapidshare.com/files/69339159/V3re-filelist-R3442A.xls.html
For some reason, Skins Manager provided a log file showing all files it scans.... that's the only way I knew they existed on the V3re.
Have any other V3re modders been able to view/alter/delete the root files on this phone?
If so, please share the app that does it.
thanks!

find p2kman from our downloads section, and use that

I managed to access the files, but it's bit tricky and i'm not sure it will do any good to manny of you. But for me, it worked like a charm.
Here is the quick how to:
1. first make cg2 backup with flash and backup (of course you need the correct profile, so google it)
2. Then, upload all files you would like to edit from some other source using mexplorer only!! This app is very nice because it recognised the phone and every other time you hook this phone up, it loads the file system from cache.
So, once again, upload all files you want to edit later. Don't matter that you are uploading wrong files. This is only used to build the correct file system architecture.
3. After that, restore your backup with flash & backup.
4. Fire up again mexplorer and voila, your hidden files are right there, in root folder, but this time you will be dealing with original v3re files.
You must be wandering why would someone use this rather complicated procedure. Well, i got a contract to build a custom firmware with specific wap and mms profiles. But i didn't knew how to edit them on pc and upload back. This little procedure saved my sorry ass LOL

I'm going to give this idea a whirl, Tvrtko... thanks so much for the tip.
If this procedure does show all the root directory files, will they remain visible to M-explorer in the future? Or will this procedure need to be done each time an edit is desired on a root directory file?
I'll let you know how it goes.....

To my idea and short expirience, this will stick every time you load mexplorer. Just be carefull if you click refresh when you delete something from your phone. Only refreshing could mess things up for you. But yeah, you can try, as you have your backup so nothing bad can happen. It should remain every time because mexplorer loads the list from cache after you first browse the phone, and also ads to cache file when you upload something on it.
@Dumba: Thanks, it's always nice to say a thing or two here, specialy if it involves one of my favorite subjects.

OK - I believe this process did work on my v3re. Here's what I did:
1) Backed up CG2, using FB3.
2) Downloaded to my hard-drive anybody's version of plmn_text_table.bin... didn't matter what's in the file, really.
3) Launched M-Explorer
4) Double clicked on "Volume /a/"
5) Dragged the "dummy" plmn_text_table.bin file over to M-explorer. A window indicated progress that this file was being copied to your phone (I gasped, but didn't worry).
6) Exit M-explorer
7) Launched FB3
8) Restored the backup I had made earlier for CG2 only.
9) Launched M-explorer. This time, it indicated "filelist is loaded from cache". The "dummy" file was still listed there.
10) In M-explorer, click and drag the "dummy" plmn_text_table.bin file to your hard drive folder of choice.
11) Note the window showing progress of Reading this file from your phone.
Aha.... we tricked it! The phone gave us the backed up copy of this file, and NOT the "dummy" version.
Seems like this procedure should work for just about any file we'd like to edit in the root of a v3re phone.
I will do more experimenting later tonight, looking into how to delete some files to save space.
Many thanks to Tvrtko for this idea.

I found a problem with this technique last night. M-explorer will only retrieve a file of the exact same size as the "dummy" one stored in cache. Without knowing the size of the file stored on your v3re, this makes it tough to find another file that size. Kind of a chicken & egg problem. lol.
I tried retrieving custwakeup.gif from the phone. I copied a "dummy" gif file of 5258 bytes to M-explorer. Then restored the CG2 backup to my phone. Extracted the custwakeup.gif and it was EXACTLY 5258 bytes! When I opened the phone's gif in a graphics program, it was only half there (top half of rastered image).

I see. Now i know why i didn't had this problem. I only needed this to edit websession and that file is always 22kb to my knowledge. Well, it was worth a try. And you did manage to download a file from a v3re root :)

Still good stuff, one backdoor open and a new way of looking at things. It just needs the ball to be kept in play and we will get it sooner or later moddable,

I was demo-ing software and found something you might want.
A file manager and it displays the all of the a/ root hidden files.
The seem editor appears to be in another language, but it is definitley worth having access to the hidden files.

Yikes - When I tried to run the MoST program (linked above), it locked up my PC with infinitely looping error.

My OS is XP and it installed without any problems.
Careful with Most Supertrubka, using in conjunction with P2kcommander when removing skins. I thought MOST would remove skin folders
from V3re menu but it doesn't. MOST installs a different file when skins are installed not s5vi.vxxxstuff.
A mu_newfolder text file is created with a path to the skin folder. If you delete the skin folder with P2k Commander a file or files with 0kb are created in the root of /a. I have been unable to delete them. I have used MOST to install skins, it seems to work. This is the first time I have monitored the a/ root drive so the 0kb files might be created with p2kcommander when folders are deleted as well. I have been unsucessful opening any fies in the a/ root.

IF, again, I say IF, one were to go the the site mentioned in the credits for the MoST program I d/l'd from the link posted above, then use the google toolbar translation option to view the site in English, one might find some Very Interesting software in the Motorola section. In particular, I found a version of a popular program, V3.9, that seems to connect and read my V3Re with the correct information instead of blanks like version 2.7 did!
That, combined with the info gleaned from using MoST gives me hope that we will soon learn the secrets of the elusive new R3442A_G_0E version software! :smoker:

I have been unsucessful opening any fies in the a/ root.
Same here: downloaded files are corrupted, and also the files names MoST displays are truncated at the beginning

I've been following this tread with much anticipation. I unfortunately have nothing to add. I just wanted to verse my excitement at the possibility of getting this hidden file issue solved. Keep the info coming.
