I just won a new Verizon V3M at work. I am with Alltel and the company that is sending me the phone said they could not get an Alltel one for me so they are sending me the Verizon one. I called my local store and they told me that they don't really like to activate the Verizon phones on their network because they will only work for two weeks and then they die or I will always have problems. Is this true or are they just saying that to get me to purchase a phone from them? Can you connect a Verizon V3M to Alltel with no problem?
Good question! Im moving this to the appropriate area so you can get the help you need...

The reason they say that is because there is a huge problem with the data services. Verizon uses their own software on the V3m and Altell uses Motorola software. Putting a VZW phone on your Alltel account would in a sense just make it a phone with out any data service of any type. And that is where the "headache" comes from because then they (as in customers) want to use the data services and don't under stand that its a different systems between different carriers.
Now you can turn the VZW V3m into an Alltel phone by flashing it with the Alltel Monster Pack. Flashing it would Brand the phone as though it was a brand new right from Alltel. And everything would work like it should.
There are guides here to do the Monster Flash and Programing of the V3m If you chose that route.

All you need to do is flash this file:

Read this guide for how to, just ignore all the USCC stuff, use the file I just told you:

and take it to the store, They should be able to activate it just fine

OK, I should get my phone in a few days. I'll download it and let you know how it goes. I was reading on other forums that people are having problems with some of these FLASHES. Is this one okay. Will I need to download anything else to make the phone functional?

Not to worry, we've been doing this a while, your phone will be safe... just make sure you follow the instructions.

01-16-2007, 04:08 PM
The reason people are having problems is that they are flashing the alltel SOFTWARE, but they want to use it on VERIZONs network. You just need your phone to work on alltels network, so flashing that file will do the trick
SER0010
01-16-2007, 06:01 PM
I'll download per instruction and give yall an update as soon as I do. Two more questions. Do I need to do this before I call Altell to have the phone activated or can I wait until after? Also, will they give me any issues because it's not a Altell phone. I mean will they know from the numbers I have to give them off the phone?
nevarDeath
01-16-2007, 06:10 PM
You need to go ahead and do it before you call them because the phone won't work, and they might try to send you some stuff OTA to the phone, and you won't get it if you don't do this first
Second, I'm not sure if they'll know by the ESN or not, my guess is yes, but if you take it to a store, they'll see the alltel software and won't think twice about it. EDIT: Even if they do give you some crap about it, tell them it's got their software on it, doesn't say anything about Verizon. Tell 'em a friend gave it to you and said it was an alltel phone. They'll activate it. The hardware itself is exactly the same as the phones they have, so there won't be any issues after you flash their software on it

Okay, I'll download first them take it to the store to activate. I'll post again before I flash and then after to give you an update. I think I came a little computer literate so I should be okay. Thanks for all your help!

When I opened the above link I saved it to my pc. When I saved it, it asked me where I wanted to put it rather than it using a default. I then closed all programs and when to upzip it. When I did there was only one file listed and it extracted "ALT_V3M_01.1A.00R_PRIkk27390_MONSTER_01.shx. I then connected my phone to the PC and clicked on the new file. It is telling me windows can't open file because it doesn't have the program. I am also not sure it the PC is recognizing the phone. Please help!

You will need to use RSD lite or PST 7.2.3 (Need to Google for PST)
PST would be your best bet. It includes the drivers for the V3c/m phones. Follow the install instructions carefully http://www.modmymoto.com/guides/cdma/getconnected.php
PST 7.2.3 is just an updated version.
Then use the Multi Flex/flash tool included to flash the phone.
I have never used RSD lite.

PST is a licensed Motorola program. Because of copy write laws the PST program is not available for regular down load. The PST you would google should come package with the work around and the V3c drivers included with it. Its out there. Ya just need to find it.

I installed the PST, Driver and, p2k commander. Everything seemed okay but when I opened up the commander to make sure the phone was connected it does have the errror message but after it, it shows "NOT connected." I think there is an error and something didn't go right. Please help. Also, when I plug the phone in again, the hardware wizard keeps coming up.

Along in the PST zip there should have been another file or zip file. That has the "work around" that installs the security key for using PST and the multi flash/flex tool.
When you run it it will patch 6 files in PST.

I have completed the connection process and I was able to get the PST and patch installed but when I went to run the flash it gave me a error "flash aborted"-phone is not properly connection/activated". When I plug the phone in the p2k commander comes up and shows the phone is connected. Do I need to leave the p2k open inorder to complete the flash through multiflashflex so i don't get the connection error? Also, when I tried bring p2k commander back up and select p2k mobile phone at the top, it want show the a file anymore. The will still powerup and it looks to be working ok so I'm not sure what's going on. Please help again!

When PST is installed that is the only program that is needed to flash the phone.
Now b4 you jump the gun and try flashing again if you start PST you should be able to see the phone connected.
If you don't see it connected in PST you don't have the drivers installed correctly.
Now in the C/Programs/Motorola/PST folder you should see a driver folder if included. Just copy those driver files into the PST folder. When Windows Install Wizard asks for new hardware then select the Install Drivers My Self and point the Install wizard to the PST folder.

It did show the phone was connected through the pst support tool on the bottom left hand side. But I can go ahead and install the drivers too. Just to make sure I am going to do this right (tommorow at work...I don't have xp at home)... I think I remember seeing a sub-folder with the drivers in the PST folder like you said. I need to copy those file and put them in the general pst folder. This should then prompt the hardware wizard to run and I'll just direct it to the general pst folder in programs/moto/pst for the information. Is this correct?

I'm not sure what other Monster pack to run. I want to switch the this phone from verizon to altell. What other one can I use? I am scared to just pick one because I don't want to kill the phone and I really don't know what I'm doing. Sometimes it still gives me the connection error and when it does connect, it gives me that hardware wizard.

That is for the Motorola V3m - Alltel NCR_01.1A.00R - Monster File

I downloaded the other monster pack and it is still asking me for the same thing. It brings up the hardware wizard and what to know how to install the FLASH MSM6500. If I cancel the hardware wizard, the flash fails. This happened on two different computers with two different packs. I am about to go crazy. It acts like it going to Flash and then it stops. The good thing is the phone still seems okay. I did notice that when I connect the phone it show v3c on the bottom of the multiflashflex screen. It's a v3m. Does it matter that it says that? If not what else can I so to make it work? I am about to go crazy!

Thank you so much for all your help! You are awesome, fantastic, fabulous, and more! I can’t thank you enough for everything. I couldn’t have done it without you. I knew I was getting close but after about the 5th time trying to flash with no success, I was about to give up….until you saved me. You are the best! Just to let you know, I called Alltel today and they helped me set everything up on the phone…it‘s working great. Now, the only thing I have left to do is figure the actual phone out. I put my contacts in it but that’s about it. I’ll have to play around with it and figure out the extras…remember, this is my first really nice phone. Anyway, thanks again for everything!

I will introduce me and my phone: Im Joel and I live in Dominican Republic, here we had Verizon, but now Claro from telefonica Mexico buy it. they use both cdma and GSM. the thing is that I bought the Motorola v3m, the one that brings with the Vcast. After a few test the same day a buy it, I figured out that the SD Card and the bluetooth didnt work :( , so I ran again to the store and I explained that, they charge me to change my software (now I know what they do to my cellphone) they flash to the alltel software NCR_01.1A.00R and everything works OK. the thing is that I was wondering a few questions:
- Can I change the software (let me say it with the right word :) ) "reflash" my v3m with another monster pack? I dont know, maybe a cooler one!. I saw a v3c GSM that had a friend of mine with the monster pack of Ferrari, and the cellphone look really cool.
- What do I need to do it by myself, i mean, after read a lot of all this things, i think i know that i need, rsd lite, the monster pack, and now i know that maybe the PST, too!, so, what tools do I need and from where can i download it?
- My last question for now, imagine that I got the tools, and the information about how to do it, so, What monster packs are compatible with my v3m? to make sure no F*ck up the cellphone
Thanks,
Joel
