View Full Version : L7c connect fix

jeffholley
01-17-2007, 07:00 AM
I've spent that past 2 days searching the net and every forum I could find, to try and get my L7c to connect to my pc. I finally got it and thought I should share.

A note: I am using a Cricket L7c CDMA phone. Brand new. On a Windows xp Pro SP2 Box updated through december 06.

Also, nevarDeath (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/member.php?u=142) Made a great Guide from which you can get the jist of how to do this. Most of it is the same, with just a few updates.

nevarDeath's Guide (http://www.modmymoto.com/guides/cdma/getconnected.php)
(yes i know it says its from the V3 it still works)

I used 5 seperate downloads.

Motorola UID Extraction Tool (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=328)

Motorola Driver Installer (google it)

Edit___
do to some confusion I put both sets of drivers in a single zip file here (http://www.live-share.com/files/160388/l7c_p2k_drivers.zip.html)

P2K Commander (http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=297)

First off we need to make sure you don't have any old drivers on your computer. Install and run the Motorola Driver Installer. (have you phone unplugged while you do this) When you run program it will do a quick search. The radio button for "Clean" should be ticked, and all you have to do is hit Start. Once its done the drivers will have been wiped out.

Now Unzip the Motorola Drivers 2.9 into a folder such as c:\temp\motodriver2.9........ and Unzip the New P2K Drivers into another one like c:\temp\newp2kdriver.

Next Install and run the Motorola UID Extraction Tool. You just have to open the program nothing else. It will say "No Device Connected" at the bottom.

Now plug your phone back in. It will pop up a found new hardware box, to which you do the customary "Install From Specific Location", and on the next window make sure it is ticked to "include this location in the search". Hit your browse button and point it to the folder with the Motorola Drivers 2.9 in it. At this point it should install the USB Motorola Modem.

This is the part that took me a while to figure out. You need that one driver from the old driver pack.

When the new found new hardware box pops up do the exact same thing, only this time point it to the folder containing the New P2K Drivers. It will want to install a few more things this way , just point them all to the New P2K Drivers.

Once all of that is done, and it may take a few minutes to get them all installed. The UID Extraction Tool should say "1 Device Connected"

All you need to do now is extract P2K Commander to a folder of your choice and run it.

I hope this help some people out and maybe even helps with a new update to the driver packs.

Good Luck to you all

Thanks alot. I know how frusterating it can be to be so close yet so far away from getting things like this to work. lol

An additional note... You can't seem to delete folders with P2Kman. You must first delete everything inside of the folder in order to delete the folder.

Took me a rather frustrating hour or 2 to figure that one out. :banghead: lol

UID bricked my computer. It installed, then I restarted my computer, the computer booted up and ask me to start in safe mode, so I did. It then rebooted and ask me to start in safe mode. The second time around I choose "Start Windows Normally" it then rebooted and ask me to start in "safe mode" and on and on and on.

So I reformated my HDD did a fresh install of Win XP, got all the updates (I love cable internet, and back-up HDD). I restarted several times everything going good.

Installed UID, restarted and and got the safe mode crap all over again. Now I am currently updating to Win XP SP2 for the second time. No more UID for me!

01-20-2007, 03:56 AM
Sorry to hear that ldb, I had no issues with my computer, however the subtle differences in hardware, software, and settings can cause enumerable different results. You may try PST instead of UID. UID was just what I used. The perpose of the program is basicaly to make the computer install the drivers other than just for the Motorola USB Modem.

Another note: I have been able to get the modified version of P2KSeem to work with my phone as well. It is in the software downloads. Its been moded to work with the v710, but seems to work well on the L7c too. It gives a list of known seem edits in the program, just remember not all are for the L7c. Some are the same though.

the new drivers, isn't actually drivers, its an installing program. Do you mean the drivers folder of the program we installed? And when you tell us to go to the new drivers folder do you mean the drivers folder of the program we installed?

My address for the program's driver folder is:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Motorola Shared\MotPCSDrivers

and there are 5 subfolders with drivers in them.

also, after I successfully installed the Motorola USB Modem, you say that another hardware window should pop up then you direct it to the new p2k drivers, but one doesn't only thing that happens is a balloon message from the icon tray says new hardware found and installed ready to use. And thats all she wrote. This is becoming more and more fustrating everytime I plug my phone in. :banghead:

First off I appologize for not replying sooner, I've been rather busy at work.

OK as for the drivers.. I can not find a link to the "new" drivers i mentioned So i've uploaded both sets in a zip file here (http://www.live-share.com/files/160388/l7c_p2k_drivers.zip.html)

Also I didn't realize this until I updated my version of P2K Commander that Only version 3.3.0 (http://www.live-share.com/files/160394/P2kCommander-V3.3.0.zip.html) is currently working with this phone. I'll keep testing the latest versions and let you all know when and if it works with them.

Any other questions just let me know.

I have tested p2kcommander v4.9.2 and I am happy to say that it works with the L7c now!!
Not all of the new features work, but the basics all work.

No matter what I do, I can't get past the add new hardware box. When I tell it to take the drivers from the specified motodrivers2.9 folder, it tells me that the installation can't be completed because it was unable to find the correct files.

I did manage to get connected once last night and also had managed to transfer two of my ringtones, but when I tried to upload the third one, the progress bar of p2k commander started flashing and after a few seconds, the program crashed.

So I thought that maybe if i just reinstalled everything it would work again... well, apparently not.

I'm using the Sprint MotoSLVR L7c

I honestly don't know about the sprint version of the L7c. I know that this all worked for my phone on the Cricket network.

This is where I'm at too.

God, I read this sticky after a week of trying to get my L7c working under the L7 guide. I finally figured out that the L7c and the L7 are very different, so I find this guide and like the OP I have a brand new Cricket MOTOSLVR L7c with Windows XP SP2, so it should work perfectly right? Wrong. It doesn't recognize any hardware besides the modem.

I don't even really care that much about flashing/flexing stuff, I just want custom ringtones and I don't want to pay anything for them I do not think that is fair to charge for ringtones when I'm paying them 52 dollars a month plus, like, 150 for the phone itself! So I've went through this, I've used Motorola Phone Tools, I've used RSD, I've went to dozens of websites... excuse me but it is annoying as :language: just to :language: put a few custom rings on my damn phone.

Sigh... I don't know if I'll ever get it working.

Jeff, I'm going to join the fray and say again: nice job on this post. Thanks for including all the needed files in one post. My issue is that when I plug my phone into my computer the little bubble pops up saying that it's a L7c attached, then it goes to the Install New Hardware wizard. I've tried relentlessly to point that thing to all the folders with these new drivers, and nothing happens. The wizard still finishes saying that it can't find the needed files to install anything. Does anyone have any suggestions here?

Try this

download Self installing P2K drivers 2.6.2.0 - 32bithttp://developer.motorola.com/docstools/USB_Drivers/Handset_USB_Driver/

You have to register but it takes only a min. Once installed run it and hit clean and reinstall. Your phone should be detected and should be charging. Run p2k commander and it should detected it, if it doesn't, i usually run rsd_lite and p2k commander recognizes the phone right away.

I have been searching ALL over the internet on EVERY forum,
downloaded mutiple version of multiple P2K programs,
downloaded more drivers than I can count,
and this is the ONE method that worked for me.

But here's the kicker: It only worked once.

Sure I was able to connect to my phone, and I could see all the files on it, but once I unplugged it and plugged back in.... nothing.

Nothing happens and no programs can detect it.

Any suggestions?

I've read that many of you have had some big problems getting this to work. First let me say one more time, I have done this using windows xp sp2(home,pro,tablet pc) only. With only the Motorola L7c from CricKet wireless. Any other OS's and or phones from other carriers are not sure to work. I do not have other phones so I can only test the phones that I have.

With that said, I recently got a new laptop. Spiffy gateway convertable, tabpc/laptop, with an intel dual core. So to makes sure I didn't make any errors with my explanation, I tested all this with the new laptop. I did just as my instructions specified, and yes I used UID. Everything worked just fine. I am happy to report that the latest version of P2K commander, as of this post, works just fine. Although some newer features are not working, such as accessing the memory card and such with the program. You will still have to change your USB setting on your phone, or use an SDmini adapter and a card reader.

What I feel needs to be stressed again, is the fact you need to wipe all the old drivers FIRST! Also run UID then plug the phone in. Make sure the first driver it asks for you get from the older folder, the rest must come from the newer one. The last thing I can think that may be causeing you all issues, is remember each time you want to access your phone, you must run UID then plug the phone in. Otherwise it will try to instal new drivers for your phone, as just a modem.

Any other questions, suggestions, comments or so forth are welcome.

as a side note, I'm in bad need of money right now, and on the edge or being evicted. So if anyone has some ideas for some quick cash, or need some computer work done, let me know.

my suggestion is...

*wipe all drivers existing if viewable in control panel>system>device manger.
*plug phone in untill drivers installed appear in device manager and delete all.
*uninstall MPT
*Install RSD Lite
(RSD LIte was the key for me, even with getting P2kcommander to get the phone into P2K mode)

now im going to go grab that new update p2k commander and check it out. :)-------update:newp2k4.9 I think is not working for me. maybe 5.0 will...

wow that is an excellent first post jeff. thanks for sharing! Thread is officially a sticky.

So I couldn't link up with all this P2KCommander but I used Motorola Phone Tools 4.04 and wastold notto let it not go through the update to the software.... You'll have to then manually set the driver to the phone (well for me it was the CDMA Motorola Metro version... butI guess you can fool around with the software) and viola' ....

Oh yeah for some reason my L7c was the V323 version so it doesn't display the exact phone interface... Damn Metro for making me suffer so long... I'ma King

Have PEACE.... Hope this helps out.

so am i completely screwed if i am on a mac? honestly, i feel like i am losing my mind. i've read everything, downloaded things i can't run, tried to understand things i can't seem to grasp.

i have the L7c, verizon. all i want to do is send myself some custom ringtones. i did this on all my other phones, would just attach then to txt or pic messages, then save the sounds as ringtones. but this damned phone won't let me save as a ringtone, only as a sound. why in the hell would i want a plain sound?

if i have missed a thread with this information then i am really sorry, i know how you guys feel about repeat posts. i just want to know if this is even possible. if not, i'll give up.

Seems to be a lot simpler than I've seen posted elsewhere..

- Grab the Motorola UID Extractor (OP has a link)

- Grab http://developer.motorola.com/docstools/USB_Drivers/Handset_USB_Driver/ (Just register, it's a free download)

- Start Motorola UID Extrator

- Start the Motorola Driver Installer and do "Clean and Reinstall"

- Plug in your device, it should detect everything fine! (If you get any prompts, point ALL add new hardwares to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Motorola Shared\MotPCSDrivers\Drivers)

I believe the new drivers package may not have been out in the original post, so that might explain all the special procedures.

Just to give you a quick run down, if you plug the phone in without the UID Extractor running you can do all your normal stuff, charge/MPT etc. If you need to do any p2k stuff, run the UID Extractor BEFORE you plug your phone in. This puts it in some type of maintanence mode and uses a different set of devices.

I can't get the first set of drivers no matter wich way i try, I think i have a feeling that the metropcs slvr will not work with these drivers.

I bought this phone from someone so I don't know if it came with any software or not. I just want to put some songs, pics, and screensavers.

I don't have a memory chip for it yet, the guy didn't give me one with it. Will it be easier If I just get the chip and put the data on there?

Hi guys-

Im a new modder, and thought I would throw in what I have learned about modding the SLVR L7C so far.

Observation on driver install/getting connected
-MPT (Moto Phone tools) messes with installing drivers. Uninstall MPT in order to use any type of other modding software.
-MPT updated versions, sometimes block the media tools, use an older version like 3.xx

Softwares status on phone
-Skinner4moto = Working! (load the proper ".s4mi" <<link below>>)
-RSD Lite = Working
-Skinman (Skins manager) = Write to Read [will apply skins but not remove]
-P2kCommander = Read no write. [Look but cant edit for me]
-UID Extraction tools = helped on installing drivers.
P2KTools = Not working

Skinning!!!
- SLVR L7c Skins located here,http://www.modmymoto.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=79
-My other SLVR L7c thread here, http://www.motomodders.net/Default.aspx?tabid=55&forumid=55&tpage=1&view=topic&postid=338558#339381
-Editing animated skins in Skinner4moto here, http://www.motox.info/showthread.php?t=37894
-Using Skinner4moto requires you to load the proper .s4mi to format located here, http://skinner4moto.de.vu/

-I have yet to be able to load iTunes

My SLVR L7c Info:
------------------------------
Motorola SLVR L7c
Technology: CDMA 1X-EVDO
Software version: 24.0_00.26.14
Flex Version: XS4CKT01L7C1NA41.0R_PRIkk_61239

Good Luck to all working on this model and any tips, or add-ins would be greatly appericiated. I'll update this post as I learn more.

Well it took me awhile to find the right way to do this with my L7c,
I found the best way.
You need the moto_drivers.zip from this file list found here http://hacktherazr.com/originals/
Extract those drivers and install them or connect your phone. Presto you now have the right drivers.
Now go here
http://www.el-co.hu/smf/index.php/topic,105.msg469.html#msg469 and get V-4.9.0 or later P2K

EDIT_ extract V-4.9XX to a folder and just click on the p2k .exe to start up

BAM! your all good!

One thing when trying to move mp3's to the phone make sure they look normal like: NOFX - Stick'n in my eye.
If you have to many things in the file name it will say GENERIC FAILURE if that happens try redusing and using only one dash in the file name.

Cheers

Roach

Try using Motorola Software Update to connect your phone instead.

Doesn't matter how you get it as long as you can get it.

Thanks to all who provide useful information here.

Finally I can connect to my l7c using p2kc. What I want to do is pretty simply. I need to have my own mp3 ringtone. After connected to my phone and found the ringtone folder, I copy my ringtone files to that folder. The problem is that I can NOT set my mp3 music as a ringtone even though it's in the ringtone folder, it's less than 30 seconds, and it can be played from my phone. Do I miss something here?

I also installed MPT 4 and did connect to my l7c using MPT. But the functions it provide is too simply. Only sync, calendar, phonebook, sms, and the Internet. I can't upload/download my picture, music, and ringtone, which are what my mainly concern.

You can not convert AT&T GSM phone to CDMA.

Next all you need to do is find a Cricket Monster Pack and flash the Verizon phone with it.

Thanks a lot for this guide. I had tried lots of things to get my Verizon L7c to connect, and this guide solved my problems. Massive props to you, Jeff.
