Has anyone gotten the Gmail app to work on the RIZR? I have tried and he says that I dont have a valid data connection even though I do.

my Gmail works..just set invalid websession and it automatically uses Edge connection (don't know why :) same for Opera...)

What do you mean invalid web session?

I figured out the trick with this GMail app. First off you need to delete all the websessions off your phone. Try p2kcommander and delete the WebSessions file. Doing this will delete all the locked websessions, specifically the Java one. After manually putting your carriers websession back on your phone, fire up GMail and it'll work.

Deleted them all with P2K. Then added a new session for Cingular Media Net only. Still does not work. Tells me I need a valid data connection. Opera Mini works fine.

Same problem here, tried deleting Websessions too and Opera still works fine but GMail says that can't connect.

Still searching a fix...

I've solved my problem trying another APN that use my carrier (I'm outside of USA), so the problem was on the other APN and not on the phone.

I have tmobile, and was able to use the gmail app with my old phone (A630), but with the z3 there is a problem. There is no option to allow the data connection with a "ask once". Eventually it tells me that I don't have a data connection. The google maps app and opera mini works just fine.

I have been trying to figure out how to make it ask only once or not at all for t-mo as well sonzoo, if I find out how I will let you know.

Can't do it.

I flashed my phone with the Generic MP for the RIZR, and was able to use gmail application just fine, the option to ask once was there. I went back to T-Mobile MP this morning, and gmail app no longer works.

Looks like I'll be switching back again tonight when I get home from work.

what would be the disadvantage of flashing with the generic MP if I'm a tmo user? I don't have any of their myFaves or anything. Would I be able to use the phone?

Sure would, you just wouldn't have any carrier branding, like all the T-Mo related images/menu items/etc.

Has anyone gotten the Gmail app to work on the RIZR? I have tried and he says that I dont have a valid data connection even though I do.yep - rizr z3 on cingular. when i got my rizr, i deleted the websessions file and in the new blank websessions file i created an entry for MEdiaNet which i set as the default. everything worked just like for you except the gmail java application. i searched the gmail website, and came across something about not using a proxy server which MEdiaNet does. then i got thinking about that session called "Java Session". so i created another entry called just that, but i left MEdiaNet as the default so everything else would work. just leave the java session basically blank - don't fill in anything. you can also change WAP to HTTP and the port from 9201 to 80, but the java gmail application will work in either case. remember, leave MEdiaNet your default. i don't know why this works, but i am guessing that particular java application looks for a websession called "Java Session".
