If you downgrade bootleader you don't have to install MP.
For ex. downgrade, unlock phone and keep the way it is now.

you mean unlock as in unlocking to enable to use diff carriers??

Yes, that just example. Or just downgrade for any other reason (ex. backup), no need to install MP.

ok, I see...downgrading will allow you to unlock the phone, not that you have to, to keep from reloading the MP etc...

typically flashing one thing will never make you have to flash another thing. Only time such things apply is when trying to recover a phone, etc.
