View Full Version : What got you into modding?
Im always curious to learn what triggered the "Itch" to mod in each of us... I know it was because I was tired of looking at the same blah skins on my V3. I started looking for skins, and ran across the esteemed poetic_follys site. I then learned what DRMs were, and wanted to change that too! The rest is history. I cant help myself. I usually get tired of a cell phone after a few months, but I still love my V3 after almost a year!

Hi there guys. I have my V3x for quite some time already (April 2006) but just have it connected to my PC recently using UID extractor tool (having problem ever since connecting the phone to my PC).
All my past fons were nokia, and this was the first motorola fon that I had. Unlike nokia, modding motorola fons was a bit hard and made it challenging for me. At first it was just for the skins, now I'm trying more complicated modding.
Not fond of participating to forums, Im always reading and trying-out things. Anyways, gonna try my best to participate once in a while.
Have a great day to all.

I only made simple mods until p_f got through with The Moto Guide. His simple instructions gave me the courage to try flashing my Razr for the first time. From there it's just been a matter of reading and asking advice on helpful forums like this.

I have been at this for just as long as Poetic I believe, was a former admin for MotoModders, so from there to HERE!!!! Got my insight from Magictom, MotoX and all the old school guys!!! I started with PDAs and as they became more sophisticated I was able (with the addition of some applications) to somewhat personalize their look and feel. Always liked having the one that "people wished they had.":cool23: I've had Samsungs, Motos, and Nokia phones, but never thought about trying to "hack" them. Then I got my first silver V3 and wanted to change the skins so I started looking around and found some good sites. I did a lot of reading and finally got the courage to try. It's been a blast ever since!!;) I can't wait to get my hands on a Razr Maxx!

Let's see.... I was in a cell shop one day, getting my V3 screen cleaned. I noticed something on their counter that they called "modding" and it showed a few screenies of "skins". I asked them about it and they told me that it was $60 to change them. So I said screw it.
For a few months, I forgot all about it. Then, one day, I was bored at work and was looking through my phone. I remembered about the "skins", and starting googling "motorola skins". I ran into The Moto Guide. There, I read a ton of stuff, and thought, "Ah heck. Why not?"
Here I am. :D

Hello, My name is moond0ggie & I'm a mod-a-holic,
I bought a Cingular Razr V3 in April '06
It was my first video phone & wanted to find a way to save them to my PC. I found 3 good moto sites & was suprised at what was being done.
Like the rest of you, I'm not happy with a factory offering so I studied good, & practiced all the mods.
After a couple months of experiments, I was happy with an optimized modded V3 & fell away from the forums.
Recently I put all the gold V3i trimming on my black V3, it looks sweet.
Then I bought another V3 on fleaBay to mod the heck out of.
Thats when I found this site, I think it's the best moto forum for a lot of reasons.
(poetic_folly has Class as well as some others)
I also serve some duty here by helping the newbs!!!;)

Honestly back when I was 17 and had a Nextel phone, midi ringtone enabled phones just came out. There was a guy I used to go to to get ringtones from and he did some pretty awesome mods. So I paid a crapload of money for him to mod my phone and do ringtones and housing changes. Anyway my phone got lost and I bought another phone from him and the jerk wouldn't do any of the mods or even give me a couple ringtones for free. So I told him to go make love to himself (not in those excact words) and told him I'd fiogure it out myself. He said "yeah I'd like to see you try, I was trained by motorola so unless you can get that same training then keep dreaming buddy". A week later I went back and did all my own mods installed my own ringtones wallpapers and games and even had a few mods that he didn't know how to do. When asking me how I learned I told him "I really did get trained by motorola, and if I where to tell you these secrets I would have to kill you" and walked out. My modding interests grew from there.

I got my first Moto (V300) and wanted to erase the phonebook, so i did a master clear/reset and it lost all sound. So, I looked at the largest source of misinformation about wireless devices on the internet, asked a question, and a dude answered me. I looked at the site that he is a mod on and another that Prybar is a mod on (MoMo) and started lurking. Eventually i came across The Moto Guide, and then here, and loved the "no BS attitude" atmosphere. The rest is history i guess.
BTW, about some of those "Trained By Motorola" guys, nothing beats real world learn by your mistakes experience. I love pwning those jagoffs, some of them still flash the wrong FW to V3r's, or wait for a Technical Service Bulletin to discover a known issue. Toolboxes lol

i didn't know anything about modding (didn't even know there was such an option for cell phones) as in thought you buy a cellphone with the features you want to have...
then i saw M3 by total coincidence when searching for 'codes' for phones (i used to have a nokia and thought i was 'all that' 'cuz i knew about the *#9999#12345# thing for those), and got M3 in my search results, so i poked around a bit, and saw the things people could do with their cell phones, and got HOOKED!!!
M3 IS THE BEST!!! nowhere else will you find the organization and information that you'll find here!
i wish i had UNLIMITED money just to donate it all to this website!!!
(but of corse i'm broke, sorry poetic_folly and cash... can't remember the rest right now 'cuz i'm drunk)
ROCK ON M3!!!!!!

Failed my first seem edit (now I think "How the hell?") and M3 helped me get it working again.
Cheers homies.
i was up at work one day when the owner of the place's son showed me his slightly modded v3, in response to me showing him my new l7. i asked him how, and he pointed me to motomodders.... i looked at it but couldnt find anything on l7, only v3. i kept searching for a way to get past the 100song limit when i stumbled on slvrhackers.net..... i joined like 10 days after it opened.... things kinda took off from there.....

Mm, good thread. My first upgrade was a 3i whose earpiece sucked really bad. I started modding in a vain attempt to fix that thing, but gains didn't really help so it went back to ebay. After that the only thing I got to really mod was my Z3 after I sold Ming(which only needed some mpkg's to fix a few issues). Now I'm on E6, so there isn't too much beyond 850/Edge to be done.
after years of using Nokia phones, i couldn't get used to the menus on a V3 and i hated the skins on that phone... using google i found some forums and my 1st brick only a few hours later :D
Once upon a time, month of december, christmas. My cousin flashed cyberwulf's mp, cyberwulf 1.2, then i was amazed, my phone now had an iTunes, then after days and weeks, i flashed cyberwulf's mp 2.0, lol:D, then it all began, i now mod my l7 till i get comfortable using it.
thanks for this glamorous/wonderful site. thanks m3:D

I bought an L6 and after seeing the rythm light videos on Youtube..I managed to enable them using my frnds comp but lost my inbox and videos folders! I sent it to the motoassist and they flashed an R3517 on it. When it came back I started learning more on M3 and trying out my mods.I used to flash 2 Mps a week at one point.I bought a V3i last year and Ive been addicted to M3 and modding. I also started doing mods on E398,V3,L7,L2 and related models

thread resurrected.
i bought a pink sliver from a friend of mine used for 50 dlls, and liked it cause it had itunes in it n it was cool,
so then i was messing around with the menu and then i saw it said skin so then i was like these skins suck. so then for some reason i KNEW that they could be changed/uploaded to a phone, and that there would be better ones so i searched and searched and i found momo but i couldnt not understand anything so i kept looking some more and i came across M3, thank you GOOGLE, and then i was like WHOA!:woot:
so i read and read and read and has a seizure from too much info...
then i was like "i don't know what they are talking about, but i know that i will mod and i will upload skins and i will make a skin...."
so here i am.

I got a good deal back in the day for getting 2 RAZRs for the price of one but I had to buy a Magenta RAZR in order to get the other one free. So, I bought it, :D, and decided to change it to gold housing... and I didn't know how to change the housing and came accross M3 and other sites but M3 is the one I sticked to, and later on I found out you can mod the software too! I was looking to unlock my L7 but the only possible way was with testpoint, so i googled testpoint L7 and found MotoX, which I found all the info there and more mods, then i got linked to slvrhackers.net, which was just closing, and was re-directed here, stopped by here once or twice, learned, read and modded, then started helping out. and i've been on here every day ever since.
What got me into modding my moto? hmm the iTunes feature on l7 really got me in the modding community here at m3.:D then things just come and come till i get satisfied.

i got into modding by accident. I was only looking to change the boring stock skins dat were on my v3i. I did a search and came across M3. As i was browsing the site i saw all this strange language...monsterpacks, flash, DRM, seem editing and i was curious to learn more. So i began asking question and was amazed to know that so many things could be done to change my motorola, I've been here every since!
