SMS Storage Capacity help on K1, strangely low?

Hi all!

I seem to have a problem with my phone's SMS capacity.

Currently I have 274 SMS's in my inbox and 283 SMS's in my sent box. For a while I have been getting a "memory low" or something messge and today finally "memory full". I think a mate of mine has something like 600 in his inbox and 200 in his sent, why can't I have the same amount?

I have cleared all items on my phones memory (images, added audio sounds, video) as well as themes and skins. I have very little apps installed on my phone, less than it came with. I now keep all my media on my external 2GB memory card. My phone's memory is the defauly storage device instead of the sim card, is this ok? There is no option for storage on the memory card to my knowledge... ?

How can I increase the 'free space' or something in order to get more SMS on my phone? I don't want to delete my SMS's...

p.s. - how many SMS's do you have in your inbox and sent items for capacity comparisons sake?

My current count is 195 Inbox, 225 Outbox , memory meter at 5. The most messages that a k1 store is 600. It also depends on message type and sizes in kb's too. MMS messages stored in inbox and outbox and their sizes tend to decrease your storing capacisty. So you may never reach 600 limit, I usually do most of the time.

help me i hav motorola L7 and i hav just 60 msgs in inbox and no msg in outbox and it is showing msg memory full........
what should i do????? my msg store on phone and it is showing only 2 option "store to phone and store to sim"..... how can i extand my msgs memory????

the default character limit for one message is generally 160. so if your sms contains <=160 characters, its counted as 1 mesg. if >160, or in multiple of 160, then although the message is counted as one, it takes up more size than a 160 character sms. as a result, u may have a total of 600 msgs, but since some maybe bigger than 160, u have ~220 inbox and ~250 in your outbox.

I've gotten over 500 total before and other times my total was only 250.
I think if you get images or them mms with muti images.. it eats up your storage.
I'm not complaining. My V3I would max out at 100 so I'm happy.

I delete them all the time anyway. I just let it fill up now and then to see how many I can get LOL
